Re: Curse similar to Dispel Magic

Generally, a spell cast by a divine caster will use Wisdom if the caster makes the save/check; Intelligence will be used if done so by an arcane caster as these are their "governing attribute." Special cases would ordinarily be called out as exceptions. For me, I prefer to have a remove curse be som...

Re: 2 books to sell - people interested or knowing where to post an add?

One more regular place to post for sales is at Dragonsfoot in the Classifieds. https://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=21 However, it is suggested that you at least try to build up some sort of "reputation" by contributing to ongoing discussions. And, of course, any D&D-like forum might h...

Re: Ethereal Plane

You can complicate this further. Some creatures, like ghosts, can coexist in Ethereal and Prime. While so manifested, they can be struck by either magical weapons or spell effects. If, however, they are in the Ethereal only, sources on the Prime cannot affect them (with some exceptions.) This would ...

Re: How to cure an Undead

It may depend on age of corpse. In this case, perhaps a fell spirit has animated the dead into whatever form they are, sort of like a possession. In this type of situation, maybe dispel evil or holy word can work. Forgotten Realms had "undeath to death" which would instantly destroy any undead so so...

Re: Minimizing math while also balancing the "Siege Engine"

I think you're confusing something, or perhaps I am more stupid today -- both seem likely. Your chart (the one stated as "the only one needed") indicates that level 13 has a 24 normal difficulty. If that "normal" were a challenge of 1, the task is automatic (if Prime), noting that it may be automati...

From other players, never. Well, actually, once -- a half-orc barbarian. From, me, also only once -- a ranger with a 3 Charisma. He made it to level 6 before the game fizzled and we started over with most everyone as a dwarf. The other game, with the barbie orc also died out around 5th level before ...

Re: Minimizing math while also balancing the "Siege Engine"

This statement and therefore the entirety of the premise is walking a slippery rope; it is partially true but not entirely true: "The "challenge class" of tasks would have to increase as the characters level increases (This is implicite at the core of the default C&C rules)." The "challenge class" i...

Re: Strength and lifting maximums

It is essentially taken directly inspired by First Edition AD&D. Clearly there are people stronger and the values may not be perfectly "realistic" but they are not supposed to be -- merely to act as a gauge for what may not require a Strength check. I mean, if Guy X can lift 150 pounds, he doesn't n...

Re: Hold Undead Spell

If the holding is a sort of force effect, similar to turning but that it prevents movement, I could see it -- would depend on how it is presented. AD&D had a hold undead spell so C&C could as well, if someone wanted it. Not that any precedence is needed. I personally would likely not name it hold un...

Re: Swarm attacks

It may not help in the general sense, but what I tend to do is consider an attack like that described to be an overbearing one, with multiple hands increasing effective Strength/Dexterity and size (and/or other modifiers as required for the attack.) For example, I might decide that a single claw has...

Re: Wounds

Specifically, no. When I consider the "wound" process, HP are not used -- wounds replaces it which makes clerical healing far more effective. It also makes damage more frightening as any single hit could result in death, regardless of level. This then has numerous alterations across the board to arm...

Not to be rude, but the official answer is: ranged weapons . Also, in a sense, dual-wielded weapons where the penalty can be offset. Some can also benefit from Strength adjustments such as muscle-powered hurled weapons (dagger, axe, some bows, etc.) For melee-only, Strength is the de facto attribute...

Re: Recreating iconic fantasy characters with class-and-a-ha

I find I prefer making new classes as I feel the class-and-a-half is 'too easy' for martial characters and far too restrictive on magic-users.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it just does not for me.

But, one I like is barbarian-monk for a real gladiator/pit fighter.
