Re: Modules where PCs start out as prisoners
(been awhile for me which is why so late to the party) - Do what I did: using the old TSR module “Treasure Island”(?), which was I think the first-ever ZERO-Level module, write up something where the players are just ‘people’ who’ve been captured and the game is to escape/explore-as-they-do so. Depe...

I'll see what I can do -- unfortunately, at home I'm on dial-up and
RPGnow is slow to load; here at work the security software won't
allow me to go there.

Re: Question about entangle spell(possible A1 spoilers)
Well, if I were that druid, I'd lay the vines down on both sides of any corridor I'd want to trap, back off a ways and wait for whatever comes down that corridor, setting off the spell when they get between the vine piles. Make for a nice roadblock to anything coming behind them as well. Or, simply ...

Re: Help with a new game
This'd possibly take you, the CK, a bit more tweaking, but if you want to balance (or mostly balance) all characters levelling-up: 1) Look over how much each class needs in EXP to level-up, 2) Tweak your adventure so the encounters-per-class are equivalent to what it takes to level-up. Example: If t...

Omote, 'thustra, maybe this morning my INT is down or something, but I'm not quite understanding...so help me out (again) please - IF there's an inherent difference in how 1e did saves .vs C&C saves, how should saving throws be changed/modified/plus-or-minused when running characters through a 1...

Re: Saves vs. Magic and their CL
Question for those whose rules-understanding is better than mine - So, not having yet run a C&C game, but also wanting to run my 1e modules, I've a question: If I did that Save-pluses-at-higher-levels to accomodate the 1e modules, wouldn't that slant saves a different way when running a C&C ...

Re: monotheism in C&C
In my games, I'll create "stories" in the sense of having numerous plot-hooks to engage the characters in the world -- usually in the form of rumors they hear, not all of which are true, of course. Each rumor, if followed up, can lead into an adventure. After that, the greater world 'story...

Re: Tithing for clerics and druids
In my old 1e days, "banks" were places where they'd hold you monies and protect it for a fee. I'm thinking maybe in my C&C games of having temples play the role of banks -- giving a small percentage of interest as long as you allow them to use your monies to make loans, charging a fee ...

Re: Attribute Generation
One of our favourite characters was a Half-Orc fighter with an INT score of 5 (I think, might have been 4 even). He pretty much worshipped our paladin and, so, became his squire. That paladin became known to us as the 'rainbow knight' due to the many colors he'd turn every time the Half-Orc screwed ...

Re: Hauling a chest of money and spiked wagons
Hell, a spiky wagon is easy: the local blacksmith would simply take 4-tined caltrops and hammer one tine into the wood of the wagon leaving the other three spiking out. Of course, as they rode this wagon further and further out of town, the bumping and movement of the wagon would dislodge the hammer...

Re: May have a player doing a monk/barbarian multi-class
Possible backstory: the character was found after a battle by a barbarian who took him to the closest place to offload him onto others' care (a monestary). But, in accepting the offer of food and a bed for the night, the monks and barbarian traded tales. Since the barbarian had seen much more of th...

Way back when, I had a player who, realizing he could get XPs for killing things, started bashing everything that came along -- had to start knocking down his XPs for frivolous kills. So, YES, award them for good role-playing...managing to get past something by negotiating, bartering, trickery, etc,...

Well...if you really, really, really think they deserve another chance: Bring 'em back from the dead -- figure the dragon has spells, and just figure resurrection is in his repertoire. So, the dragon, impressed by their boldness, brings them back for a price: a gaes to go on a mission for the dragon...

You might want to do what I did: create adventures for an "evil crew" to play. When I was part of a group where different folks would DM games, mostly, yeah, the player-characters were the typical mix of Lawful-Good, Neutral-Good to Neutral, but no decidedly evil characters in the mix. So,...
