Re: C&C and 5e
One aspect of 5e I like, and wish I had included in the cnc game I am running, is "advantage". I could easily see that replacing the differing TNs for prime v. Non-prime checks, and doing so relatively smoothly.

Re: non-Vancian magic
The problem with pure mana systems with many spells as written is the scaling... if my low-level spell which costs 1 does as much as my high level spell which costs 3, why am I going to spend 3 to do what can be dobe with 1? What 5e did (and it is based on 3.5's psionics) was divorce power increases...

Morale
How do y'all handle Morale in C&C? Since I've been using T1/B2, I'm mostly going with (A)D&D morale numbers and rolling a d20 to check, but what methods do y'all use?

Re: War Wizard Class
"War Wizards do not gain new spells automatically upon levelling up, and attempts to learn new spells are done with a bonus of their Caster Level, not their class level." Per page 71 of the 6th printing PH, wizards and illusionists get a spell of choice when they gain a level. War Wizards do not. Fr...

Re: Should clerics have a d10 hit die?
I many times wonder if they should have a higher hit die. I play them a lot and have found myself in many situations where . . turning undead fails, spells fail or are resisted and I can't use crossbows. So I have to go toe to toe with monsters, cause the wizards and rogues are fucking hiding and b...

Re: War Wizard Class
Updated version Significant changes: Armor changed from the Ranger list to the slightly less robust Bard List Weapons changed to any one-handed weapon, plus staff Weapon of Choice may now be reassigned at levels 6, 10, 14, 18, etc., rather than clunkier "forgo for a level" mechanic Spells are not au...

Don't forget there may be a market for ideas or books.
You might also find a market for the slaves themselves... you don't want war prisoners going into service near their homelands, so you sell them further afield.

Re: War Wizard Class
Seems reasonable.. did you write it up? If so, consider submitting it in word doc to the domesday.. At a glance and I have not compared this in detail.. half wizard and half fighter.. all the fighter's best armors and any weapon.. a +1 to hit with a changeable weapon when you find a cool magic weap...

Re: Hybrid Classes
Pretty much, yeah. Basically, what I like about C&C is that it's straightforward. Dual-classing or multiclassing doesn't really do it for me... it winds up being slow to level at low levels, and only marginally different at higher levels. I vastly prefer single classes that cover such archetypes, ra...

Hybrid Classes
So, I'm not a fan of the class and a half rules; one of the things I like about C&C is its plug n play nature. However, there's a couple of archetypical character types I miss from other games, and those are the hybrid type classes... fighter/thieves, fighter/mages, mage/thieves. Or the 2e style bar...

Re: Should clerics have a d10 hit die?
A house rule I used to have is to give characters a full hit die of temp hp on top of their normal starting hp. Once it's gone, it's gone. Hmm, like. And I'm thinking of how I can utilize this idea prior to combat or in other situations. Perhaps, the cleric's aid spell could be uberized! :ugeek: I ...

Re: Minor Image.
One thing I have done with the Image line of spells is treat them somewhat akin to a wish... they let you do ANYTHING, but they're more fragile.... interacting with them always gives a saving throw, perhaps on top of other saving throws that the effect would allow. My basic example is a fireball. If...

Re: Maturing Magic Items
Earthdawn made this somewhat integral... magic items grew more powerful with time and investment of, essentially, XP. <NINJA!> It might be interesting to treat certain magic items as henchmen... gaining XP as you go through, and developing in power as a result of that. You can either, as with henchm...

Re: Damage Question
An option I have seen is to increase the multiplier, not multiply again. You add the second multiplier -1, and then multiply by that. So, someone who does triple damage on a backstab who then criticals for double damage does instead quadruple damage (3 + (2-1) or 2 + (3-1), depending on how you want...

Re: change dragon slayerlong sword to bastard sword?
I would be easier, in theory, to change a long sword to a bastard sword, but even then, I'd say "This is something that requires magic." In the past, we've allowed people to retrain their specialization to match a special weapon they've found, but that's not something easily done (though more easily...

Re: Paladin, detect evil – invisible ?
I would borrow from 3.x. Yes, it will detect evil, BUT it's not a useful combat application. You define a space (150'*10', it seems). The first round will tell you "Yes, there is evil there." The second round will let you narrow it down. A third round will let you pinpoint it. But if that evil moves...

Re: Adventurer's Packs
It's less a matter of literally only having 5 minutes and more "I want the players to be able to immediately get into the game, and give beginning players a good selection of things they will need, so they don't go 'Oregon Trail' and only load up on weapons."

Adventurer's Packs
So, one of the things I really like about C&C is the "pick up and go" nature of gameplay... that you can pretty much hand someone a photocopy of their race, a photocopy of their class, and a front sheet for their attributes and be playing in 5 minutes. The problem is equipment. Has anyone come up wi...

Re: Silent Image spell
Ok, now that I'm not at work, let's go into a bit more detail. I view the Image line of spells (Silent Image, Minor Image, Major Image, etc.) as being Wish spells. Whatever the caster can envision, he can make happen... with limitations. Those limitations include the sensory limitations of the spell...

Re: Silent Image spell
I've got a new Illusionist and these spells will be the bane of my existence in the near future I fear. I tried to explain to him, his spells should be imaginative BUT they cannot crush the world. Mimic other spells of the same level, damage of typical things around you.. etc... but don't try to pu...

Re: Silent Image spell
I've done similar before; I'd allow it to do regular weapon damage (which is why most people prefer to conjure a monster to go with the weapon). The target would get a save the first time struck, with a bonus because there's no sound.
