Re: The Castle Keepers Guide is...
very comprehensive. Really nice job, it's packed with all sorts of useful information. I went into my FLGS to order the hardcover which I've been waiting for and behold - they had it on the shelf. I bought it straight away and didn't really look at it until I get home....and realized I was disappoi...

Re: Will PDF's be offered for sale of the 3 Core Rulebooks?
All that aside, I absolutely love the CKG....it's quickly become my favorite purchase of the year, and I'm dragging it to all my games, regardless of whether we're playing C&C, Pathfinder or 4E. Great book. But yes, you definitely do not need it to play C&C, it's all just extra dollops of wh...

Re: So... Combat Dominance, what's it good for?
All I can say is that I once had a campaign where seven adventurers (around level 10ish) held off an army of approximately 1,000 goblins, orcs and a medley of ogres, trolls and other creatures. The initial push was a sort of "Helms Deep meets the Inglourious Basterds" moment with the fight...

Dungeon Delve available on blog
Haven't written anything new for C&C in a while, but I've been looking for stuff to put on my blog. I just added a short dungeon delve I recently ran to the site, using a creative commons map from Tim Hartlins and thought I'd share it with anyone interested. You can read it here: http://realmsof...

Re: The Castle Keepers Guide is...
It took a while but my FLGS finally got my copy in, so I'm a bit late to the party but I spent the weekend reading the CKG and absolutely love it. A lot of useful stuff in it, some things I didn;t expect, and overall just fun to read and packed full of useful ideas. Right now, I'm integrating second...

Re: CKG optional rule: Mana Points
Requiring rest or what is certainly and option, but I think that sort of counters what the recovery rules are trying to accomplish which is to limit the down time of the caster and the party having to rest constantly to heal and recover spells. That's true. I wouldn't implement a rest system myself...

Re: CKG optional rule: Mana Points
I've used my own spell point system for a long time in both AD&D and C&C, but now that I have the CKG I'm going to adopt this one. If you're worried about the mana-acquisition and how it skews the caster's effectiveness over time, one way to put a check on it is to require that the wizard be...

Re: CL of a save against a staff?
I was just thinking about this, regarding the CL for saves of magic devices, and I decided a neat way to handle it would be to make the effective caster level that of the user; so the mage using a staff uses his own CL as if he were casting the spell himself. This has two advantages: it suggests tha...

Praising Of Gods & Monsters
<r>I haven't seen much on this in any forum posts yet, but wanted to say that I snagged the physical copy recently (happy it came out even if it's not in hardcover) and have really enjoyed this book. I'ts basically the "Gods book" I've been waiting for since the last decent one to be released, which...

<r>I do a very simple point-buy: everyone starts with 0 in each attribute, and needs to buy them up. They get 75 attribute points to spend. The points are not complex or weighted; you spend 1 for 1. Your minimum range per stat is 3 and maximum is 18. You must, no matter what, have a minimum of 1 and...

<r>I'd interpret the rule on page 9 to suggest a single-class wizard who dons armor can't cast spells. But the multi-classing rules are specific to the class abilities, which do not inherently forbid the ability to wear armor and cast spells; the problem is that single-class wizards are not proficie...
