Re: Dark Dungeons Deluxe

Back in business! I spent the last year or so in a messy divorce from LibreOffice. After getting tired of crashes, long loading times, images bouncing around, tables cutting themselves in half, headers not staying with their paragraphs, and bringing my computer to a halt I gave her the boot and star...

Re: Crusader's Companion Necromancer

The former seems to be more polished, while the latter seems to be more complete. Do they differ in any other way, and am I missing the "full version" out there, somewhere? The one on TLG's site is probably the preferable one. That version I piled in every OGC source I could find. I also ...

Re: Whats changed?

7th Printing, Page 99, Cure Light Wounds: The illusionist version of the spell acts in the same manner with one important exception. The spell recipient of the spell must make an intelligence saving throw. If the author's were to put every exception to a rule into that rules section, the book would ...

There is no (h) on the save, it is on the spell resistance. It specifically says that a saving throw must be made.

Re: Whats changed?

If the Illusionist is actually altering reality, someone being smart wouldn't stop that. The mind of matter crud in the explanation fits more with the Psionicist archetype. The real Illusionist archetype would be an offshoot of the Rogue.

Re: Whats changed?

The cure/heal spells say otherwise. They make an Intelligence check. If they fail it, they realize the magic is fake and don't heal.

Re: Whats changed?

You guys forgot to mention the healing Illusionist. See, the Illusionist sucks as a class as it is really just a Wizard that cast Illusion spells. Much like an Enchanter, Conjurer, Pyromancer, etc. The earlier versions try to make it unique by making it so Wizards can't cast a lot of the Illusion sp...

Re: Sample Deity Description From A Codex?

While in game terms we focus on their divine powers, druids were the professional caste of Celtic society. Sone druids were lawyers while others were physicians. Others were political advisors and lorekeepers. Thus not all druids were priests. Celtic druids would be granted powers from a Celtic dei...

PLEASE stress gods/goddesses for Druids.. they always seem to be forgotten or Celtic only...
Druids have gods? I've always ran/played them that nature itself gives them their powers.

Re: Sample Deity Description From A Codex?

Ok, so do the rest of the writeups have this level of detail, or are the better known deities granted longer and more detailed writeups?
They all vary. Some of them are 10+ paragraphs. All the paragraphs are short tho.

Re: Sample Deity Description From A Codex?

Donn - Lord of the Dead Originally Donn was a chief of the Milesians during the invasion of Éire and the subsequent battle to drive out the Tuatha Dé Dannan. He was not just a great warrior, but also too fond of the death and bloodshed that comes with it. He savored the taking of lives, especially ...

Re: Giants are undersized

I agree with Go0gleplex on this. And until recently, while working on a Sea Giant class, I thought they were taller. I always imagined them towering over trees, peeking over mountains, and throwing house-sized boulders. The only exceptions were the hill and fire giant, I assumed that they were small...

Re: Missing animal stats

Nice. I'm thinking the animals that Damon pointed out are not in the Cnc Book of Familiar, because they were not in the d20 version. They probably were not in the d20 version, because they were already in the d20 SRD.

Re: Missing animal stats

As far as I know, there are no stats for those. Although, I haven't indexed most of the newer books so I could be wrong. Basic (core?) stats for the missing critters can be found under the Summon Familiar Spell in the Player's Handbook. It doesn't give the entire monster block for them, but enough t...

Re: Crusader's Companion

A couple of the monsters are, but than I got sidetracked (which happens often :P). The RC has an entry for Gargantuan, which is basically a template that can be applied to any monster. I was thinking instead of having a bunch of giant monsters (Giant Bat, Giant Rat, Giant Roc, etc.), I can just make...

It'll be awhile before the new version is complete, I pick at it everyone once awhile when I need a break from my main project. Dark Dungeons is my main squeeze, the Companion is my fling, and my Ruin campaign setting thinks I'm going to settle down with it someday :P

Re: Crusader Companion: Experience Tables & Class Creation H

Wasn't the point of your NDA was because they planned to publish the method? Castle Keeper's Guide? Adventurer's Backpack? Seeing as those books have came and gone with no method, they obviously no longer have any interest in publishing it. Maybe the Trolls can drop it so we can compare notes.

Re: Crusader Companion: Experience Tables & Class Creation H

It's already in the article :P

The main section offers a class building method.
Class Reconstruction shows how to rebuild the core classes using that method.
Class Deconstruction attempts to show how the author's of the PHB built the classes.

Re: Crusader Companion: Experience Tables & Class Creation H

Thanks. The secret is right in the EXP tables. Well, most of it. There is a method, it just wasn't adhered to all the way. I took a better look at acquired abilities, and it is mostly follows this: Standard: 250 Moderate: 500 Excellent: 1,000 Outstanding: 2,000 So basically the cost doubles for each...

Re: Crusader Companion: Experience Tables & Class Creation H

The Companion is currently being revised, so yes I will take a look at that section. I don't think it is possible to accurately come to the same numbers with any method tho. Some of them look to be pulled out of thin air. There are EXP requirement boosts in some of the classes during a level where n...

Re: Crusader Companion: Experience Tables & Class Creation H

I wrote the Class Construction section and I have no idea how they came up with 6,000 either :P If the authors of the core classes had a method, they didn't always follow it. If you follow the method I wrote, it would be 200 extra XP after doubling the previous level's XP. At second glance, it looks...

Davis's multi-classing rules were in Crusader v2 #4, which would be before the 4th printing. That same issue contains another multi-classing system by Joseph Hepler and Mike's Multiclasses as Classes.

Good to see that the Companion's still out there. And delighted to see that some of my stuff is still in it. Yep, although like the Freeport Companion, some of it is not going to make the final cut. There are some things that are too campaign specific. Basically, stuff that relies too heavily on pe...
