Re: Tales from the Table: How Are You Using/Planning to Use
I'm running my group in my world based on the Wilderlands. They started out in the ToEE, but have left that (for now) and are exploring the Black Monastery (from FGG).

It's not C&C specific, but easily converted: City State of the Invincible Overlord is being redone. The kickstarter is here:

Re: Falling Damage
Check this out. Just messing around with different ideas from this discussion... Falling Any class may make a saving throw for ½ damage when intentionally jumping 11-20ft. Rogues, assassins, barbarians, rangers and monks making this saving throw negate the damage. Rogues, assassins, barbarians, ran...

Re: Illutionist spell : Silent image
A "group saving throw" is not necessary. If one opponent (either alone, or of many) Yes, it is. Also, It doesn't state, "either alone, or of many". Adding words in is called a "house rule". Nope. Not a house rule. Just one possible way of interpreting the senten...

Re: Illutionist spell : Silent image
I can see how you reached that interpretation based on the precise language of the text, but I also think it is pretty clear that that was not the intent of the authors. Heh. Partly playing devil's advocate here... but it underscores the problems I have with the various "xxx Image" spells...

Re: Illutionist spell : Silent image
The Silent Image spell description states that "The illusion disappears if an opponent makes the saving throw." What happens if there are multiple opponents? If one makes the save, does the illusion disappear for all of them? No it stays for those who failed a saving throw. Is that how yo...

Re: Racial Attribute modifiers
I think much like Treebore on this matter. What is interesting though is that the game Lamentations of the Flame Princess do such modifications. Regardless of the actual attribute score, the particular race might get a +1 to the attribute check. For example, if the dwarf's constitution score is a 1...

Re: Players Handbook Six
Encumbrance Score vs Encumbrance Rating: same thing? On page 47, the first paragraph of the "Determining Encumbrance" section refers to the Encumbrance Score, but the next paragraph (and the table that follows) refers to Encumbrance Rating. I am assuming these are the same thing... if so, ...

Re: Players Handbook Six
It might be useful to think about clarifying the wording of the racial attribute modifiers. See this thread: http://www.trolllord.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13807 TROLL: TEXT replaced with the following: This refers to a bonus or penalty to the base attribute score for all members of a given...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
For those of you who like adding a bonus for prime (whatever bonus you use), I have created a character sheet that has spaces for all of the bonuses, to make it easy for the player to know what (and when) to add. If you want it, it is available at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7951733/C%26C%20...

Racial Attribute modifiers
Are the Attribute Modifiers listed for each race (e.g., +1 Dex & -1 Con for elves) applied to the Attribute Score (thus changing the Attribute), or are they actual bonuses to the Attribute Check? For example, if an elf rolled a Dexterity attribute score of 10, would his Attribute Check be at +0 ...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
I would imagine that it isn't so much that 12/18 is more fantasy and 10/15 is more pulpy I think part of it is how the two games use the different systems. Take the Arcanist from amazing adventures, if you pick a int bas Arcanist and (s)he wants to cast lightning bolt (s)he has to make a successful...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
Alright, so, in order not to derail the topic here, the 12/18 split discussion is in the CKG. Some people like 12/18, some people like 18 +6, some enjoy 12/15/18, and others still enjoy 15 +5. It all depends on ck preference. Using a different spread like a 10/15 will alter your PC's power level. I...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
Why would you call 2 TNs? I call one Challenge Level and let the players figure it out if they succeeded or not. The players have to do all the work. Sometimes I like to keep the CL a secret from the players (just like I like to keep AC a mystery for as long as I can). If the players are adding the...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
Like I have said, I like the effect of the number 6. Plus it is also statistically proven to be "significant" on a D20... There is nothing statistically "significant" about the results of a d20 roll. This was often stated early on in the game's history, and maybe that is where y...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
It's psychological. The break down of dnd DC's is pick a DC, roll a d20 add mods then compare to DC. cnc (though the end result is the same) the process is different. Select a CL apply the players CB (prime or non-prime) then roll d20. The process makes a psychological difference, that's all. D&...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
As arduin pointed out, 12/15/18 and +6/+3/+0 are the same. It just depends on where you want to do your math. As also pointed out, the +6/+3/+0 is very dnd. Of course there is nothing wrong with that. Yes, I know. I was just pointing out that with 3 levels to keep track of, I think it would be easi...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
OK, so I have read the CKG section on the development and rationale for 12/18. I had been basing my thinking on level-dependent checks (saves vs an x-level opponent, disarming an x-level trap, etc.), but their rationale for 12/18 was also based on non-level-based challenges (balancing on a slippery ...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
I can't speak for Steve and Jason, but I think in AA the CB is 15 just so the characters are "more awesome" since in pulp the heroes are extraordinary people (Think Doc Savage, John Carter, Solomon Kane). In Fantasy, they may be exceptional, but more often are average folk who discover th...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
The CKG goes into a big explanation as to why they chose 12/18, and it was all for percentile reasons. 12/18 with no modifiers is a 60%/90% chance of failure. Once you add in level and attribute modifiers it changes (Personally I prefer 12/15/18). In theory a lvl 1 pc with a +1 modifier to his prim...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
I did the +6 deal. I didn't like it. I felt like I was playing dnd. I have nothing against dnd of course, I just prefer to play dnd when I play DnD and I want to play cnc when I play cnc. Thanks, but just to clarify, my question is about the justification for the numerical value of the challenge ba...

Re: Challenge Base 12/18 vs 10/15 vs ??
I use 18 for everyone. If you are rolling in a Prime stat, you add six. In other words, let the players do the math. I've got too much going on to be burdened with that! Thanks, Kim. I plan to do that too. But just to clarify, my question is about the justification for the numerical value of the ch...
