Another good OGL/OSR game is John Stater's Blood and Treasure. It's on lulu and is about $30, so the price is higher, but it is an OSRIC-sized book loaded with great content.

Completely agree. I love that game. It has a great bunch of expanded rules on teh website too. You can even download it in odt format and edit your own rules out of it.

Who sits at the table and plays is up to the group and GM. You want Social Justice Warrior (love it) then, invite s/hi/rm/s to your game. You want Redneck- go git 'im. You want Refined British Marm, the tally ho! If they are your friend, or curious and not an @$$hole, then invite them. Neither the g...

REHowardfanatic, I'm not going to flame you but I'm not going to agree 100% with you either. You make some really great points. Are you sure? This is the internet. Flaming is its official aligmnent langauge. (1) I agree that the new rulebooks (3E and newer in particular) have way too much verbiage....

Re: 15 minutes on wotc forums = I want to watch the world bu
The WOTC forums have always been a pit of whiny PC-ness. I remember 3e discussions where the Ranger's favored enemy ability was racists, that Dungeon Master was a sexist term and that Orcs and other sentient humanoids should never be evil. (Actual terms used) According to Tolkien, orcs are elves tw...

The cover is scuffed up with corner dings. The binding is fine and the books is clean, but it is not up to my "excellent" standards.

I love the title of this post, but I do think a moderator should stamp this one down because I made a one line joke and got treated like an @$$hole for all but begging people to stop talking about gender issues/politics on the thread, so I expect Great Wyrm levels of flaming! Re: I will likely get flamed, but hey...
Which version of Earthdawn are we talking about? :) The original FASA one(s), like many of their games, tended to delve a bit into the "why" as opposed to the "how." That was often the better part of the game because it explained rules rather than just giving them. It is a philo...

I always felt it was that since HP really aren't just physical wounds, but rather, and abstraction, possibly containing many elements, including things like luck, exertion and the like. And so, it was because that had to do with your training and life experience. Certain classes training would allo...

I'm still hopeful about 5E. While I legally bought everything you mention, plus the 5E starter set, I was not a fan of 4E, and played/ran 3E for about 5 years until I realized I was only torturing myself like that because I thought I had to. So I have definitely been far happier with my gaming in g...

Re: I will likely get flamed, but hey...
As for Hemingway... I like him better than Faulkner, but less than Steinbeck. I like his writing style- it's blunt and structurally simple. Like a great RPG ruleset, his style just gets the hell out of the way! However, like most American authors, I feel like he is strongest in his shorter works. (T...

And of course, you may not be able to read it even when it is released. From what I have heard, the author started it typing on his word processor, but has since turned to scrawling it in a curious-smelling tome. He has also taken to muttering to himself, often in Latin. The Tome itself is written i...

This current trend in media, in general, and D&D/gaming, in specific, has nothing to do with inclusivity. I thought that point had been made and agreed upon. Far, far too many diverse groups were left out of the grandiose bull&h!t sidebar for that to be true even by the most liberal of all p...
