Re: C&C White Box at GenCon

The White Box is where my C&C adventure started. I have a lot of respect for a RPG that can fit into a small box and get picked up and played in a short time. Plus, it's proof that giant, complicated rules-systems aren't required for fun tabletop adventuring. However, I haven't played the White Box ...

Re: Origins in Columbus in June?

Fear not, I think Origins is once again picking up on the spillover of those disenchanted with the GenCon behemoth. Origins is looking up! ~O That's where Jyrdan and I are. We went to Gen Con a few years back, which was super awesome to do, but also a lot of work to manage between the hotel reserva...

Re: Origins in Columbus in June?

After the fun (aka, not) of events sign up, brother (Jyrdan) and I are signed up for Rats Ate My Spellbook! Even though I really like Origins, this year's sign up was especially painful. But it being done means nothing left but looking forward to the convention. I haven't gone to Jeni's yet, but I d...

I've not tried PH-related stuff, but my bout with GERD was awhile ago. I found raising the bed by two or so inches at the head of the bed to be pretty helpful too. For those suffering with it still, you have my sympathy as it's no fun at all.

Re: You may want to buy Volo’s Guide to Monsters ...

From what I've read, it reminds me a bit of the old "Ecology of the ..." articles from Dragon magazine. I'm thinking about purchasing it. But, on the one hand, I like that in the current edition of D&D I can be surprised by monsters because, unlike previous editions when I pretty much read everythin...

Re: Liitle Birds: The Game Breaks Down? The Math is off?

Glad you like C&C. It's one of my favorites as well. As far as game scaling goes, I try to keep in mind that all games have the same basic problems. You start with a dice range (perhaps a d20 or 2d6 or whatever) and find that when you put in too many bonuses you go outside of the range. Happened wi...

Re: Con on the Cob Question

Thanks for the feedback folks. One specific question, as far as the gaming tables go, it's my understanding that they're at least largely all in the same open space. As someone who has trouble hearing in crowded, loud spaces, how's the level of background noise in that kind of environment?

Con on the Cob Question

Jyrdan Fairblade and I are looking into checking out Con on the Cob this year and my Google-Fu has not resulted in a whole lot of information, other than the official website and a few other mentions (and of course, "Did you mean Corn on the Cob?"). It looks like some of the forum-goers here have be...

I'm currently reading Uprooted by Naomi Novik and loving it. It's just fantastic through about 50% of the way through. Highly, highly recommended. Glad to hear that it gets a recommendation as it's sitting on my bookshelf, awaiting its turn to be read. Currently, I'm reading through The Geek Femini...

Re: The C&C Journal/notebook

I agree that the notebook looks great. However, my preferred style is, if I'm going to prepare for an adventure, I tear out the paper and assemble it (along with any non-standard paper sized objects) in a 3-ring binder. But, it's always tough to resist new C&C products so I might cave at some point....

Re: Rogue tactics

Since the dice are stacked against you, try never to make them a factor. Try to figure out traps in character instead of rolling for them. Describe in great detail what you are looking at and why and come up with common-sense no-fail ways around them. The dice will kill you if you can't avoid them....

Re: Opinions on the race based classes in the PG of Aihrde b

I'm a sucker for race-based classes and, for me, each of the ones in the Player's Guide to Aihrde hits pretty close to the mark of what I think fits the iconic view of each race. I'm not sure I like it the best, but I find the Lesser Eldritch Goblin to be pretty interesting. Having a character unabl...

Agreed. Also, to add to the list I would also include the Free RPG Day modules. They're often good points of entry for people new to C&C. And, if you can make it to FLGS on Free RPG Day, they're also free. :D

I tend to prefer 3-5, as it allows for a well-rounded party without too much table chaos. However, Mark Rein Hagen (Vampire: The Masquerade and more recently I Am Zombie) has an interesting article with suggestions how to run an effective rpg with only one PC. For those interested, it can be found h...

Mine just arrived and, to fill in the blank on the subject: "Ultimate Grimtooths Traps is: heavy." It's a huge book and, as above noted, filled with both useful information and entertaining material. From a GM point of view, I'd say it's a worthwhile investment, since it provides lots of content for...

Re: TLG Portal

I like the idea as well, since it looks like digital content for gaming is becoming much more of a thing. However, I have yet to graduate to that and will continue to rely on dead tree editions. It's not a bad idea for new converts to C&C who may not already have the back catalog occupying space on ...

Generally, something with a lot of vegetables. I'm a big fan of dips made from some combination of beans and vegetables that offset the dangerous lure of chips. Re: What's the coolest weapon or armor that you used in C&C?

From the one-sheet adventures for the Classic Monsters Kickstarter, I really like the idea of the Sword of Peleus. It starts out as a +1 weapon, but with every miss, adds an additional +1 until a hit is scored, after which it starts over as a +1. For those of us with unlucky dice, such a magic item ...

Starting out with C&C-specific stuff, there's Fantastic Adventure. It's mostly outdoors-ish, with a dungeon. I haven't run it yet, but from reading it seems like a good starting off adventure.

Re: Alcohol and gaming

I think moderation is key, along with the personalities who are playing. A voice for moderation here as well. Drinking nothing but booze for our typical gaming session (5-ish hours) is a bad idea, but I don't see much wrong with a beer or two (or equivalent other alcoholic drink) over the course of...

The CKG is a decent book, but certainly not necessary to play the game. I picked it up after playing C&C for about a year, when TLG had one of their Christmas sales and it cost me like $10. I then went in on the Three Sisters KS and got another copy of it, through that, but the book never sees use ...

The Ultimate Edition of Grimtooth's Traps looks awfully nice, and a huge book (curious about how much the tome weighs). With so many devious traps, it's going to be fun integrating it into gameplay. Well, for the GMs/DMs/CKs doing so; perhaps less so for the PCs.
