Re: Detect Thoughts spell

So my official ruling - it's your game and you should do with it what you want, you won't break C&C no matter which of these you decide, but if you want a researched answer, here it is: Here is the Basic D&D ESP Spell description (page 41, player's book): "This spell will allow the magic-user to "he...

Re: What are you reading?

Just finished reading One Word Kill by Mark Lawrence... it takes place in the 80s and the main characters play 1e DA&D... there is also time travel, a heist, and a tiny bit of character growth.

Re: What are you reading?

Just finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline... people told me to read it, that I would enjoy it, years ago... they were right - I love the book! So much of my 80s upbringing is in that book!

Re: Cleric Spells

My setting is polytheistic, and I see the cleric of a particular deity as calling upon that deity to grant them their divine powers. They don't ignore the other deities, but they have a special affinity for their divine patron. They are also well versed in ALL of the deities in terms of what they re...

I change the available spells by deity in my homebrew world. It's been a while since I refreshed that - I should probably look at it again.

Re: Great Scimitar

Wouldn't the extra cost of the great scimitar be the explanation as to why it is superior to both the scimitar and the two handed sword? If the great scimitar is two handed, the only difference between it and the two handed sword is 1 less EV, but you pay almost double the cost. I considered leavin...

Re: Great Scimitar

I would houserule that the Great Scimitar IS a 2-H weapon. My reasoning is thus: 1) The Scimitar (non-Great) does 1d6 damage, weighs 3 pounds, costs 15gp, and is a 1-handed weapon. 2) The Great Scimitar does 2d6 damage (2x the scimitar), weighs 6 pounds (2x the scimitar), costs 55gp (more than 2x th...

Re: What's up

It's a format of communication for a different purpose - it is meant for real time conversations and information exchange, not for saving ideas and text for posterity. Forums can keep things for posterity, discord doesn't. It's not that discord is bad - heck, I'm a TLG Discord moderator - I like it ...

Re: What's up

Yeah - the issue with Discord is that it's ephemeral... the conversations move past and then on to a new one. The forums are more permanent and more easily searchable.

Re: A question

In my game I make a judgement call regarding whether the target can get a chance to see/hear the rogue. 1) If the rogue is sneaking up on someone, outside of combat, to strike... if it is reasonable that the rogue could do so, based on the circumstances, then I let the rogue make the attack without ...

Re: Evade vs Parry

It is up to the CK to determine which types of combat maneuvers are allowed at the table. You are correct that evade seems like a lesser powered option when compared to parry. I can't see a case where the CK would allow BOTH of those - more likely the CK would allow one as an optional combat maneuve...

That adventure is designed/written by Davis, so it probably takes place in Inzae, the sort of more grimdark sister world of Aihrde.

Re: Secondary Skills & Adding Level to Checks

I saw that slight discrepancy and I made sure to put something in my houserules about it... Here is what I say in the houserule doc that I give my players before character generation: Task Resolution – Ability Checks (a.k.a. SIEGE Checks): A Standard SIEGE check is d20+attribute modifier+level. The ...

Even at $500.00 I am very tempted.
Definitely 100 times better, but at 10 times the cost it is too rich for my wallet.
