Re: Runemark: Static Runes

I will also note that it IS possible that these three runes, Hold, Air, and Water, were published in the original runemark book - which I do not have a copy of and is now out of print - BUT I highly doubt it. It is just very TLG to have a bad example and keep reprinting it.

Re: Runemark: Static Runes

I think they changed the names of the runes AFTER writing that example and then just never adjusted the example. I think the Hold rune is supposed to be the Binding rune, the Air rune is supposed to be the Breath rune, and I am not sure what the Water rune is supposed to be. Fire used to be an Aihrd...

Re: Protection from Alignment

Sure... and I don't disagree with you and would probably rule it that way. BUT I could see another CK deciding to do something interesting with the protection spell effects as per the rules as written. My goal is to give the original poster enough information to make a solid decision. I think our co...

Re: Protection from Alignment

The reason I said that about charm and suggestion is that the text of the Protection from Alignment spell, on page 173 of the PHB says this: "The spell can also block any attempt to possess the warded creature or to exercise mental control over the creature by creatures of any alignment. The pr...

Re: Protection from Alignment

Note that a protection from alignment spell only lasts for 3 rounds per level while a charm person, for example, lasts for 1 hour per level... as soon as that protection spell wears off, the target is subject to the charm. Command is only 1 round, so it will end before the protection does. Suggestio...

Re: Wands/Command words

Since it is not explicit in the PHB, it is the CK's decision. Here are some things I would use when making my decision: 1) The PHB details several spells and mentions using a wand to cast them (for example, see the lightning bolt spell on page 161) and it doesn't mention that the spell is cast any d...

Per page 222 of the 9th printing PHB: 1) The player must announce that they are disengaging at the beginning of the round. 2) The act of disengaging takes place first in the round , before any initiative roll, or any other combatant’s action. 3) If disengaging a character can take no other action. Re: Free Guide for converting 5th Ed to C&C

The wizard with STR non-prime and a -2 STR mod would roll a d20+5-2 and they would have to beat 18+6=24, so they need a 21 on their d20 to bust down the door... an impossible task in C&C for this wizard. Sure it is. Not every class, especially with low relevant scores, can do everything a PC wi...

Re: Free Guide for converting 5th Ed to C&C

I disagree with the DC conversion formula. But overall it's fine I guess. The conversion advice in that document says this : "The base method to convert DC to CL is simply to subtract 10 from the DC. Thus, a DC 17 task becomes a CL 7 challenge." A CL 7 challenge is VERY HARD for a 1st leve...

Re: What do you hate about D&D 5e?

I agree hate is a strong word... there is one thing I LOVE about 5e, just to give it some kudos: it has done enough right and had the right timing and confluence of events to make it the best-selling version of D&D ever created and to bring in more new players than any previous edition... and so...

Honest question.. We're all likely big C&C fans here. What are some things you really hate (or just dislike) about D&D 5e? Seeking honest opinions, not trying to start a flame war. Thanks! For me I have three main gripes for 5e that make it a bit unpalatable for me, though I have played man...

Re: Oil and holy water damage PHB 7the print?

On topic, but off book, has it always been in the CKG? Info about holy water is on page 44 of the first printing CKG (page 50 in 2nd printing; page 34 in 3rd printing), but is not in table format like on the screen, so you have to pull the attack and damage info from the middle of a paragraph. Flam...

Which screen?
The old case-bound hard screens they used to make as well as the most recent CK screen they released a couple of months ago.

Re: Oil and holy water damage PHB 7the print?

Is there a listing for oil and holy water damage in the player's handbook 7th printing on back? I see it in the eighth printing, and I was just curious that I don't believe I've seen that chart before. The chart was from the CK Screen that TLG made - a bunch of us made the suggestion that Steve mak...

4) Mundane equipment that is used for weapon maintenance (sewing kits, whetstones, etc) don't add a bonus to the roll - instead, they make it so that the wastage effect is reduced by 1 automatically (upon the PC's decision to expend one use of the kit) and the PC can make a SIEGE check (using the c...

Re: About new players, the CKG wastage rules and other considerations - long post

Just assess a certain amount of coin for clothing for when adventuring. And a certain amount for equipment wastage and maintenance when adventuring. Probably of % of the total cost of the equipment and clothing. Anything more detailed than that is boring unless they are in teh wilds for a LONG time...

Re: About new players, the CKG wastage rules and other considerations - long post

I use equipment wastage rules, here are my houserules, which I feel are simple enough and easy to follow, and also reward those that care about such things as sewing kits and whetstones. Wastage rolls are triggered by: 1) PC rolls a 1 on an attack. 2) Enemy attacker rolls a 20 on an attack. 3) If th...

Re: Are there new contents in the CKG 3rd Printing?

To be clear - so far they have not published an M&T with the new branding. As far as I can tell, they still have 5th printing M&T in stock and they don't tend to make new printings until the old one has declined in stock enough to warrant an entire print run. I do suspect, though, that they ...

Re: Are there new contents in the CKG 3rd Printing?

Yes, the 8th printing of the PHB is going to print next week. It has the new logo and text styling on the cover. The cover art is an homage to the 1st edition AD&D PHB, just as the cover art of the new CKG is an homage to the 1st edition AD&D DMG.

Re: Are there new contents in the CKG 3rd Printing?

There is new material in the book. The previous version of the CKG was 352 pages and the new one is 365 pages... that doesn't seem that different until you consider that they also removed 18 pages of the class info from the CKG and put it into the PHB. So the CKG is not only 16 pages longer than the...

The value is what people will pay (a.k.a. it is worth what the market will bear). I know that's not helpful though. My helpful advice is this: Look at sold listings on ebay and at other used online outlets. The sold price will tell you what it is actually worth, rather than the pie-in-the-sky amount...
