Using "old school" saving throws
As an experiment, I've been thinking of coming up with a workable system for C&C that uses the concept of saving throw categories, such as was used in every edition in D&D up until 3e. Yes, 3e used reflex/fort/will, but I'm talking about the breath weapon/paralysis/magic type of saves. As I see it, ...

Re: Hacking the SIEGE engine to limit CC to 20
So what is the purpose of the table, exactly? So I can quickly look at chances of success for a variety of methods. Consider a 12th level character facing a CC of 20. Then compare the values for each of the 3 cases you have below (base, prime, class). For a character with attribute score of 10, the...

Re: Hacking the SIEGE engine to limit CC to 20
While i myself am not a fan of all-primes for class abilities, i know others are. Apparently it hasn't broken their game, so likely no worries there. :) The prime difference i always thought was the result of math- it is 1 standard deviation of a d20 roll. (Of course, the Trolls just liked it as C&...

Re: Hacking the SIEGE engine to limit CC to 20
Otherwise, the level modifiers you propose sound a lot like D&D 5E, where as you grow in level, you don't gain so much in bonuses, but new skills and hit points. I think my only potential worry is that some classes are more dependent on level bonuses than others, so i wonder if those classes should...

Re: Hacking the SIEGE engine to limit CC to 20
Report back after you use it for a while and let us know how it changed your game. Yes. Definitely. Maybe do a write up about it to include in a future issue of Domesday... That's a good idea. I'm going to put up a free work-in-progress version on DTRPG soon, adding more content every week until I ...

Hacking the SIEGE engine to limit CC to 20
I love playing around with house rules, and I came up with the following to address some of my hangups with the SIEGE engine. My basic issues are thus: 1) The 12/18 challenge base for primes vs non-primes is too great 2) Classes without a prime attribute in one or more of their abilities (non-human ...

Re: Need help with my class revision ideas
So your looking to give the Cleric and Wizards something more based on those attributes, in addition to what your already planning on giving them based on DEX or STR? The standard bonuses are gone. Instead each class gets its own special benefit from having high attribute score. One at 14+ and anot...

Need help with my class revision ideas
I'm going to begin C&C soon and want to add something I've been thinking about for a while. Rather than having standard ability score bonuses, I want high scores (14+) to mean something different to each class. For example... Fighter STR 14+: +1 to hit and +1 damage Fighter STR 16+: can wield 2-H we...

Bestiary cards for OSR games
I don't know if this is of interest, but I've just released the first half of an OSR bestiary card line, covering letters A-J. The 6"x6" cards contain all pertinent information such as armor class and hit dice, but also include full details on treasure, saving throws, and "to hit" numbers! The cards...

Re: Has anyone read Iron Tower Trilogy by Dennis L. McKierna
I too was attracted by the book covers, but the writing is pretty amateur-level stuff. Tolkien it ain't. I remember White Dwarf savaging the series. The author's writing has improved immeasurably since.

Re: Alternate human benefit instead of a bonus prime attribu
Aragorn is hundreds of years younger than most elves yet is described as "the greatest traveller and huntsman" of the age. To this point, Aragorn is not a normal human, he is a descendant of the Numenoreans, and therefore of Elros Half-Elven, brother of Elrond. Much power flows through the line of ...

Re: Alternate human benefit instead of a bonus prime attribu
I like where Aramis is going. Racial abilities are little mini powers and bonuses to things your race is good at or typically most skilled. Thus since we keep assuming that humans "learn faster than all the other races" (where did this ever start?), why not pull together a host of options for human...

Re: Alternate human benefit instead of a bonus prime attribu
Yeah, the 10% bonus certainly is NOT equivalent to having the third Prime. 30 to 40% would be in the ball park. What about allowing humans to receive fortune points/luck points/fate points (whatever you want to call them), while other races don't receive any? Maybe couple that with 10% extra experi...

Haunted Highlands CK Guide missing pages?
I was able to get my hands on a brand new copy of the CK Guide to the HH through ebay, and discovered that it is missing a handful of map pages. There are 3 or 4 examples of 2-page maps that only show one page, leaving a blank page where the second part of the map should be. Is this how they were al...

Alternate human benefit instead of a bonus prime attribute?
I'm not keen on humans having 3 primes. I would rather they have two, just like every other race. Humans are probably younger than other races when beginning their careers, so having more primes doesn't really make sense to me. What do you think would be a good alternative? All I can think of is giv...

Looking for ideas on making 0-level characters work
I love Warhammer's tradition of starting out with a complete nobody (rat catcher, barkeep, etc) and advancing to fully fledged adventurer. C&C assumes you begin at 1st level as an adventurer (as most games do). I'm looking for ideas on how to make the WH style work for C&C. In other words, you start...

You have managed to make Gandalf high-powered without giving him a ton of spells. This is the most accurate depiction of him for a d20 game I've seen.

Re: Using Warhammer FRP style careers with C&C?
Not to hijack your thread but Mordheim would be a cool place for adventuring. Different warbands could be enemies, or even potential allies. Weird mutated creatures & "regular" mosters could be random encounters. The different "missions" could be scenario ideas. What would wyrdstone do though? It w...

Re: Using Warhammer FRP style careers with C&C?
I can see much of the WH career options working as Advantages. The problem is, to fully adapt it you would have to massively increase the number of advantages given, and totally remove BtH as a mechanic in and of itself, but have the weapon type skills of WH award BtH when taken as an advantage. I'...

Re: Using Warhammer FRP style careers with C&C?
At the low end, it sounds a lot like Dungeon Crawls Classics RPG's funnel system for starting 0-level PCs. I'm confused why a PC would continue to progress in a non-adventuring career as the PC levels. Is a 5th level wizard really doing that much rat-catching anymore? You wouldn't progress in a non...
