Re: House rules how much do you use? do they change often?

I use a few house rules and alter a few classes. House Rules 1) Class Base Weapon Damage Class HD d12/d10 (Warriors) Small weapons Do D6, Medium weapons do d8 (d10 in two hands), large weapons do d12 HD d8 (Clerics) Small Weapons do D4, Medium Weapons do D6 (or D8 two handed), Large Weapons do d10 H...

My favorite is simple roll a 20 get an extra attack. Roll a 1 and foe gets a free attack. With missile weapons double damage and loss a turn.

Re: Spot Checks…What do You do?

Personally, I think of the attributes differently. Physical attributes are fairly straight forward, but with mental ones it is hard to discern between Intelligence and Wisdom. So I did an arbitrary break between them. As a jumping off point I looked at the definitions from Encarta Dictionary of each...

Re: Assassins in your game

We had a long running game (not as CK) with an assassin and he was way underpowered compared to the rest of the group. Their Bth kind of crippled the guy. The studying for three rounds was hard to pull off. I think he successfully assassinated 3 things in a year. A eagle (yes a normal eagle), a hobg...

I don't think a lance was meant to be used from the back of pony (or mule or donkey for that matter). I sure would not let it do lance damage.

Re: Knight Help

I just thought I would add my two cents worth: I played a campaign (Wilderlands) with a dwarven knight who was more or less the group leader. He was the most powerful character of the campaign. We had large group with a large spread of characters (fighters, barbarians, wizards, rangers, etc.). We d...

Re: Fighter

I have been playing C&C since the early days of its development (2004 or 2005?). The first 3 years or so it was hard to get a regular group together as every D&Der was enamored with 3E. I didn't start playing C&C regularly until 2008 or early 2009. Since that time, I have been playing or running on...

When you say armor penalty do you mean to rogue and assassin abilities? The barbarian does not recieve a penealty he is just not able to an ability in heavy armor.

Re: Fighter

Well I disagree with your reading it does say a fighter but rangers and paladins are subclassess of the fighter. There are other places where it says fighters get exceptional strength but clearly the subclasses do as well. Has nothing to do with my "reading". It is what the rules are. G.G. also pla...

Re: Fighter

I am probably too influenced by AD&D, but I don't really see the fighter as a weapon master or combat master. In AD&D rangers and paladins could do everything that a fighter could do plus their additional abilities. Rangers had lower attacks/round. Also, ONLY fighters got # attacks equal to their l...

Re: Knight Help

My adventures tend to be dungeon centric so I would like everyone to be useful in that situation. The knight is really the worst in a traditonal D&D type adventure. It's funny how wide a verity we can have in our hobby. :) For me, the classic dungeon adventure is my least favorite. I love more wild...

The knight should be encouraged to hire followers and henchmen so that his ability to inspire and embolden has a much higher purpose and effect. I do several things that allow a fighter to be more of a "Fighter", ie weapons and combat master. First off I allow them to select and additional specialization in a NEW weapon every 3 levels. In addition to improving that initial specialization to +2 every 4 levels. So at Level 3 they pick up a ne...

Re: Knight Help

I have a problem with the knight as written, his niche does not seem to be adventuring in a dungeon, he is even worst the ranger below ground. I have suggested in the past that his abilities could be tied to charging rather than times per day. But that might be too powerful. The class as written doe...

Re: Magic Weapons and Armor, how do you handle them?

I never liked the idea of giving armor DR. I think that would require a whole new armor system. Multiplying cost makes little sense to me since you start to get strange things like Expert armor cost more than magical armor. I do something similar to treeborn. Expert cost 1/2 of +1 or 500 gp. It give...

Re: Whirlwind attack vs combat dominance

So let me get this straight, the reason Combat Dominance does not suck is that 1 HD monsters can pose a threat to high level PCs, they can pose a threat because players are supposed to have low armor class and plate armor is generally not available? In my current game (as player not dm) the front l...

Re: Whirlwind attack vs combat dominance

The change I made was really tiny in concept... Just add another 1HD for every 4 Levels, otherwise leave it the same. 4th 2 attacks vs 1 HD and less 8th 3 attacks vs 2 HD and less 12th 4 attacks vs 3 HD and less 16th 5 attacks vs 4 HD and less 20th 6 attacks vs 5 HD and less Well I am not to sure a...
