Re: Whos Yer Con 2013, Indianapolis - March 15-17

Quickly patching up the last bit of my writeups and updates of prefab characters for my two games. Looking way the hell forward to this. :D

Re: Treebore's and Other's Houserules for CnC

I have a few rules that are a little world-centric to my homebrew, because of the more high-magic nature of the world... but these are under constant construction. A couple that are more notable: Clerical Domain Perks: Clerics devoted to single deities within the WoP mythos gain particular domain ab...

Re: To Grid or not to Grid, that is the question...

I tend to use a grid when it suits me. Larger battles, battles where position is particularly important, etc. I like using them to give the players an idea where things are relative to them, but I also like that the C&C combat system is streamlined and speedy enough that it is by no means a necessit...

Re: Gen Con "official" head count?

I will wait until I officially grab a badge before signing up to run a TLG game, but I'm hopeful (again this year) to run and play in a couple C&C scenarios.

Re: Gen Con "official" head count?

After talking things over with the wife, it sounds as though we will officially be coming. Once the tax checks drop, we'll put in for 4-day passes, and I will be taking a look at playing and possibly even running some games.

I'm still holding out hope that I will be there, but finances have been incredibly tight this year, so we have to play wait and see with the tax check.

Re: Gen Con

Last year, my two C&C games were dismal failures, either from non-attendance or player apathy (not all of the players, thankfully-- there were a couple awesome players!-- but enough to sabotage everyone else's fun). It left me with a bad taste in my mouth, moreso because I know there were people fro...

They were hopeful that they would have it fixed by yesterday evening, so you might want ...

Re: Whos Yer Con 2013, Indianapolis - March 15-17

A few questions... How many people attend? It's been rising every year since inception, IIRC... I'll try to look through my program from last year to be sure. From the Whos Yer Gamers Facebook, "Last year Who's Yer Con hosted over 800 attendees, from 92 different zip codes across 8 different states...

Much (and slightly belated) thanks to everyone for the well-wishes and congratulations! Or get a piece of poster board and laminate it. This. I don't know what the cost savings would be, but I'm pretty sure you can at least dry-erase on this. Now, if you wanted the roll up vinyl-type mats like Chessex puts out, I really don't know what to tell you. But I'll have a looksee around; I th...

Re: What got you to buy the RPG's you own?

D&D Basic: Saw it in a comic book store wayyyyy back when, and thought it looked pretty cool. A friend of mine bought it and said it was better than sliced bread, so I asked for-- and got it-- for Christmas my freshman year of high school. Pretty much from then, I was hooked, moved on to AD&D, fell...

Hmmm. If I had to rank them, I don't know that I could. I honestly prefer playing in my own setting most of the time-- mostly because I know so much about it, but, in no particular order: Ansalon (Dragonlance) Eberron Golarion (Pathfinder RPG) Airdhe Toril (Forgotten Realms, 1E/2E), including Al Qad...

Re: Lethality in gaming. IE the "Save or Die" love/hate...

I started losing my taste for being on the Pathfinder boards (I was an active Paizo junkie from just before the beta of PFRPG) because of the way boardgoers whined about how horrible Save or Die (or Save or Suck) spells/traps/etc, even after most 'fatal' creatures had workarounds in the PFRPG-- i.e,...

Re: Of clerics and wizards

There's no wrong way to do it. It certainly won't break the game to allow clerics to spontaneously cast healing spells. Other classes don't get that luxury, though, so I don't see why clerics should. I look at it from, what I feel, a practical standpoint. The fighter fights. He's purposely "built" ...

Re: Of clerics and wizards

All that said, this brings into the discussion, another thought. Why does your party get hurt so often that it requires your cleric to swap out healing spells? Are they fighting when they should be running? Are they careless? Do you need to make healing scrolls and potions more common in your game?...

Re: Of clerics and wizards

In my game world, the ability to swap out any spells for like (or lower) level cures is a specific ability of priests of the healing deity. They also roll 2 sets of dice for any cure wounds they make and take the higher roll. And so far, that has never done anything to break the game dynamic, so you...

Re: Anyone think they can truly tell how good a RPG is by si

I know that I had a few friends, who, after looking at C&C said that the math SIEGE checks didn't work out at higher levels, and that totally colored their opinion of it. The few times I've ever played it or GM'd it, I obviously thought it was fun and enjoyable, easy to understand and never had an i...

Re: What type of Adventuers do you play most?

It sort of depends.... usually, I wouldn't say that I GM in a classic 'sandbox' style, at least as I understand it-- meaning that the players say where they're going or what they're doing, and even if that doesn't conform to anything I have ready, I just go with it and try to BS my way through it. I...
