Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?

We played Nemesis with 5 players. Recently kickstarted "Alien" type survival game. 5 people, 3 escaped, 2 dead, 2 met victory conditions. It took about 2.5 hours with two new players. The game is fun, not all that complicated, difficult to win, and the figures are beautiful, I can't wait to paint th...

Which facebook group are you always talking about? I've been enjoying the cast, particularly the "Deep Dives". Please include page references when you can.

Re: Fate system ?

It's a "narrative" system as opposed to the "Goal Oriented" system we're used to. It uses 6 sided dice with + and - symbols on them, 2 each plus 2 blanks. It requires a great deal of engagement and creativity from all involved as you have to narrate how you use a skill, how to add a stunt, and what ...

Re: Prime Directive's Tricode System - an overlooked gem?

I bought it when it came out but was never able to talk any of my friends into playing it. I have played both the Gurps and D20 versions, although just as vanilla trek rules. I had a lot of fun with the Gurps version. It was a decent filler between FASA's version and Last Unicorn Games version. My g...

Re: AA for 5E

To be honest, the more I learn about 5e, the more I think I made the right choice picking C&C. I recognize that 5e is very popular and where the money is, and I know the trolls are running a business, but I have AA so I don't need another version using rules I don't like. As I read this post back it...

I'm reading "The Triangle" and "The Triangle Campaign" for FASA Star Trek. I'm starting a Star Trek Adventures (from Modiphius) game in 3 weeks, so it counts as research.

I just finished "Drastic Measures" by Dayton Ward, the 2nd tie-in novel for Star Trek Discovery. It's about Tarsus IV and Kodos the Executioner. I found the prose off-putting but the story was good.

Re: The All Father

I've been working under the assumption that he "dispersed" himself after he got bored and left the world to fend for itself. I did run a campaign where the main story arc was to reassemble the All Father to prevent the return of Unklar. The PC's would get rewarded with something after every step in ...

There is a name appendix in the Silmarillion which I have found useful. Translating jokes into foreign languages works as well. My Dresden Files character is Nippikortyuk Unalaq, which is Inuit for "Big Wind".

We have a monthly DM meetup where we discuss this sort of thing. The last few months we've been demonstrating new systems. So far it has been Fate, The Strange, Ghostbusters, and Star Trek Adventures. This month we will either discuss building a system from scratch or world building. My comrades are...

I just announce how much XP they got for that session and send them home. I do not understand the book keeping complaint, since I leave that to the players completely. I have too much to do to worry about keeping track. I have yet to catch my players cheating on this, but I am also pretty generous w...

I have the audio book of Children of Hurin read by Christopher Lee. He has a magnificent voice, but he sort of droned on in that one. Great for short passages, but I found it coma inducing over time. I have the book in my cue to read. Happy to hear about Beren and Luthien. In my youth LotR was an an...
