Re: Which Other Game do you Like to most?

I like Traveller a lot as well. At one point I had all of the FFE reprints but had to sell them to pay the bills. Sigh. Mongoose's LBB Traveller is on my "if I ever find a decent job" want list.

Re: Cool Movies

I thought Black Death was okay. The acting is superb, especially Sean Bean, who pretty much always delivers. The third act twist is pretty well done, too. The worst part of the movie is the final ten minutes or so that is the epilogue. It is a tiresome, cliched ending that ruins an otherwise good mo...

Re: Other ways to identify magic items?

I always loved how Earthdawn did it's magic items. In that game, the item "awakened" as you learned its history. You might recognize it with a spell or skill roll, maybe even learn its most basic abilities, but you had to roleplay the learning of its true abilities. You'd get more and more powers as...

Re: Ogre's super simplified armor rules

I'm actually going the opposite way with this. For some peculiar reason, I like detail in my armor! After watching the weapon and armor testing on Deadliest Warrior it occured to me that Gygax's original concept that AC reflected how hard it was to deal a telling blow to a target was better than I h...

Re: So... Combat Dominance, what's it good for?

I am working on a "Martial Specialization" series of special abilities that would act in lieu of a Weapon Specialization. These would reflect armed martial combat styles from various cultures, like Shield and Spear, Marksman, Swashbuckler, Spearslayer, Two Weapon Fighting, Staff, etc. That's my answ...

Airhde

I am considering getting this, but I'm not sure. As a rule, I don't like published settings. So can someone give me some info on it? What is it comperable to? What sets it apart as a fantasy setting? What are its strengths and weaknesses? What optional rules are offered in the folio and is the folio...

Re: Which Other Game do you Like to most?

Glad to see there's another WH1 freak out there. I've loved that game since I saw all the goblin slaughter on the cover. I recently got Realms of Sorcery and Apocrypha Now for it. Those are great additions if you don't have them. Oh, and to add a game I forgot: Pendragon 4th edition is balls out bad...

Cool Movies

I know recommending movies on the internet is a tried and true method to get flamed, but I really enjoyed The Eagle and Season of the Witch. The Eagle is just a historical adventure and is very well done- better than The Centurian, IMO. Season of the Witch is like someone made a movie of one of my c...

Re: What are you reading?

Well, obviously, I am a huge Robert E. Howard fan. I hope you like his stuff as much as I do. If I might recommend:
Worms of the Earth (Bran Mak Morn)
Red Nails (Conan)
Queen of the Black Coast (Conan)
By This Axe I Rule! (Kull)

4 of my all time favorites.

I just ordered this book, Of Gods and Monsters, and Castellan's Guide to Arms and Armour! C&C kicks so much ass it should be a highlander!

Omote- your AC&C stuff is pretty awesome.

Re: What are you reading?

Thanks. Howard has been my favorite since 4th grade when I read the Ace paperback edition of Conan the Usurper. I had read The Hobbit the year before and liked it, but Howard was so much more me it isn't even funny. I feel like David Drake: Robert E. Howard made me want to write! I do plan to read t...

I really hope this is better than what ScyFy did a couple of years ago... That was... was... so bad. Just, so, so, so bad. I hope this is a fun fantasy movie, and that's all I'll ask from it. I have learned to let movies be their own thing seperate from novels or comics upon which they are bas...

Re: What are you reading?

Neuromancer is fantastic. Classic opening line! I think it is considered the first true cyberpunk novel, but I have always thought Asimov's Caves of Steel and Dick's Do Androids Dream About Electric Sheep laid a ton of ground for cyberpunk. How is Dance With Dragons? I've read the first two Game of ...

What are you reading?

I love to read and I have been read a lot lately. I think most RPGers read a lot, so I'm curious as to what everyone else is reading. I haven't read fantasy in years, but lately I have been in a serious mood to read it. At the moment I am reading Leonard Carpenter's Conan the Outcast, which is prett...

Which Other Game do you Like to most?

There's already a great thread on which game we like least, and I'm assuming that many like Castles and Crusades the most or they wouldn't be here, so I am wondering what game do you like the most other than C&C? For fantasy, I like Warhammer FRP 1st edition. Love the setting and the system is simpl...

Re: What You Want in a Campaign Setting?

Great questions! I usually create my own setting or adapt over from another source, such as Hyboria, Camelot, or Middle Earth. I have used only 3 published campaign settings in my time as a DM: Ravenloft, Birthright, and Earthdawn. These setting offered a rich and detailed history, great sites of ad...

Re: Looking to simplify race rules

You could remove non-humans altogether. I usually do. Many of the greatest tales of fantasy do not have any non-humans in PC positions: anything by Robert E. Howard, the tales of King Arthur, Charlemange, and Robin Hood, Lieber's Lankhmar, Martin's A Game of Thrones, the Odyssey and Illiad, Beowulf,...

Re: The One Ring RPG: New LOTR RPG

 Anyway... Skywalker- I reread the initial description. I missed the bit about Pendragon as an inspiration. That is very good news, indeed. When I ran LOTR with Pendragon I made the elves take extremes in their passions- everthing was an 18/2. I thought this reflected The Silmarillion's elves ...
