Re: What's the Big Butthurt with 2E?

I thought the Complete Handbooks were pretty good. I always liked the kit idea as a way of making the classes more versatile. I rarely used the optional rules from any of AD&D's books. I remember the Ninja sourcebook was pretty cool and the Barbarians once sucked. I never got the racial handbooks, b...

Re: What's the Big Butthurt with 2E?

Wow, this takes me back. I never liked 2e, but it wasn't the game's fault! Let me explain, in my own over wordy fashion: I still remember the day my buddy Corey and I traded our 1e books to get the PHB, PHB, and MC. We were in Middle School and I hade already been gaming since 3rd grade. We were psy...

Re: 4e rant

For what it is, 4e is pretty cool. It's probably the best of the epic/super fantasy games that are so popular now thanks to WoW. I loved the new magic system (though I didn't care for how every character is a spellcaster now). I really liked the restructured game world with the new planes and gods. ...

Re: Character Write Ups- From the works of Robert E. Howard

I finally got to see the new Conan the Barbarian today. I'm clueless as to why it didn't do well. I thought it was a lot of fun. Momoa was great as Conan and the story was 100% Roy Thomas (still not quite REH). Great pace, awesome fights. It sorta bums me out that it did perform so porrly because no...

Re: So... Combat Dominance, what's it good for?

I reread the Weapon Specialization, Combat Dominance, and Combat Marauder abilities. I don't really think the Combat Dominance ability is underpowered, but I do think Combat Marauder is OVERpowered. Also, I do think the Fighter needs more oomph, though I prefer to link such oomphage to Weapon Specia...

Re: Monsters & Treasures of Aihrde

Well, I love equipment guides. My house ruled item list is over 10 pages long and doen't have much in the way of description and nothing in the way of illustration. Turned loose with art and time, I could probably stretch that into 100 pages pretty easily. As for Castellan's Guide, I would have like...

Re: do you still use dungeons?

Again, to go back to my favorite published game world ever, Earthdawn had a great way of working dungeons into things. A few generations prior to game's begin, there was a mystical apocalypse where demonic horrors crossed over from the astral plane to ravage the world. During the long years of this ...

Re: do you still use dungeons?

I've actually never run that many dungeons. I prefer wilderness tales, urban tales, horror stories, and exploration of ruins. However, the best dungeon idea I ever came up with was for a group of adventurers that lost their way in a faerie wood- though they did not know it was such. They found a cav...

And now it is done! I hope those stats are enjoyed by others as much as I enjoyed making them. C&C can capture the feel of Howard's characters better than any other game I've ever seen. Congrats to the Troll Lords for creating a game that lets me create my favorite characters with such elegance and ...

Re: So... Combat Dominance, what's it good for?

I always use orcs as a player character race of barbarinas who have been labelled "evil" by racist elves. For that matter, my dark elves were once enslaved and fought a rebellion for their freedom and also were labelled "evil." Not a fan of elves, lol. As it was said often in Sgadowrun: 'Never trust...

Re: So... Combat Dominance, what's it good for?

My orcs are far more dangerous than yours! I've always ran them as analogous to Huns, including being master riders, albeit on wovles, and master archers. Thus, in my campaign 1HD enemies are still very dangerous.

By Crom, if the little man in the silly pointy hat isn't going to fight, then he'd better get out of the damn way! Let the orcs feast on him in hell if he won't run- I am not here to defend him!

Re: Enchanted Weapons (and Armor) Growing More Powerful With

I first saw this idea in FASA's Earthdawn, where every magic item had a history, both heroic and tragic and as the character learned the history and completed tasks in the honor of the itme, it grew more powerful. In effect, the item becomes a campaign in and of itself. I have used this for my magic...

Re: Which Other Game do you Like to most?

On Troll and Toad you could get the classic Spycraft for a song. I liked that game, but ultimately, I just thought that I like super spies better than realistic ones, so I just added a Spy skill to DC Heroes. I'd also like to say that my favorite board game of all time is Hero Quest. Freakin' amazin...

Re: Which Game do you DISLIKE the most.....

You know- I liked MERPS a lot and I got Rolemaster as a result as well... with the same results. MERPS was so amazing and RM is good, but just a huge let down when you've seen MERPS. I never tried HARP because I heard that it dumped the combat tables, which were IMO the best part of the game. Never ...

Re: Trading and selling stuff?

If I may- i am trying to sell the Conan RPG 2nd edition Monster Manual (Bestiary of the Hyborian Age) and 2 books for a rules-lite game called Horror Rules. All 3 are like new. I'll see the bestiary for $30 and the Horror Rules for $15 total. Alternately, I'll trade the Bestiary for the Pendragon 4t...

Re: Character Write Ups- From the works of Robert E. Howard

Yeah, I think the epic tone is a bit much.
I wonder why they just won't make a movie based on one of Howard's tales. There are a solid dozen that would make amazing films- Tower of the Elephant, Queen of the Black Coast, The Scarlet Citadel, or People of the Black Circle would be damn great movies.

So what do you guys think of the upcoming Conan? I think it looks pretty good. I liked Jason Momoa (s/p?) in A Game of Thrones and he looks the part in the movie. I also like the bits of talk I've heard from the producers, like making the movie R was a priority and Conan is an anti-hero. I hate the ...

Re: Character Write Ups

I saw the Pirate profession. I like it for a Pirates of the Carribean type setting, but ti doesn't really work for Howard's tales. I have always thought AD&D needed a mariner class. It's the only iconic fantasy type not represented.
I'm glad you liked Belit's write up. Thanks.

Character Write Ups- From the works of Robert E. Howard

These write ups are rough drafts. I am currently rereading much of my Howard collection, so I may update things as I uncover stray facts I have forgotten. Where possible, I did reference AD&D works such as the Red Sonja and Conan adventures, and, of course, Gary Gygax's Conan write up from Dragon Ma...

Re: After Winter's Dark Impressions, or PLEASE use a proofre

The axis quote seems merely to be a metaphor. 'Bares' looks very much like a spelling error. I noticed that the PHB had lots of confusion in places with the possessive and plural forms. Alas, that has become teh demon of modern grammar. I'd just like to state, and I'm sure many fans would volunteer ...
