Re: Bailing characters out A3 slight spoilers

BTB, at -1 to -6, the character requires 24 hours of rest before the healing process begins, and then it proceeds normally. So the first 24 hours, no healing, then after that normal 1 hp/day of rest... But that also needs being well fed, warm, etc. What are the conditions under which they are held c...

Just to stoke the fire, because I think that this is a great discussion here, suggesting, all hypothetical, you play super awesome long campaigns do you put the level cap on the rogue or do you extend it so that, just guessing here, that when the wizard hits level 24 the rogue is like level 35 Ardu...

Re: Is the rogue "hosed" ?

I didn't feel that the rogue was "hosed." however, I did increase their BtH to be the same as a cleric and I added studded leather to his armor list. The BtH increase was because I felt 4 different BtHs was not necessary and the added armor was because, in my mind, studded leather makes sense for a...

Rogue Back Attack question

OK, so the Rogue has the Back Attack ability, and it is one that is "affected by armor", so -1/point of AC armor type gives when better than 12. How does this impact Back Attack? For example, Chain Shirt, provides AC 14, so -2 on abilities. When using Back Attack how is this applied? Do you - Subtra...

Re: Separate XP progression

+1 to both Arduin and Sir Ironside In the early editions of the game, and in C&C, classes increase in level at different rates. Each level increase grants additional or improved abilities. Differing level charts help keep the characters of equal number of XP on par with each other, while allowing a ...

Re: Sorcerer in C&C

I think the original post was about having an arcane caster who needs no spell book and naturally has spells come to them as in 3.x sorcerer. I could be wrong. Personally, when I convert material form 3.x I make sorcerers, into illusionists. I have never liked the sorcerer. They would be hunted dow...

Re: Paladin in PH 6

So Kim's paladin has hit 9th level, or is about to, and he gets Smite Evil. Reading the ability we were all stunned by its actual weakness. Once a day, he can use this ability, and smite evil for +his level in damage and charisma modifier in to hit rolls. That's not what was intended in the origina...

I have to say, I still run my 24-inch "Early 2008" iMac (5 years old now) and just upgraded to Mavericks yesterday. For 5 years this thing has been a workhorse: work and play, kids and school... You name it. Always dependable, never crashes. I've had the graphics card replaced about 1.5 years ago a...

Ok, well really vinyl since I went cheaper on my first attempt, still I like the results, want to bling it up some, but it is a good start. Re: Fighters

Sneak attack is how Rogues do it and its based on their sneaky stabbiness. Well, sneak attack is broken anyways. How is it a "sneak" if it happens every round and the target knows it's coming? It's another artificial way of justifying the manipulation of dice, based on the false premise that every ...

It's not very significant: three times out of four it has no effect whatsoever. That's my point: a d20 gives a very large range, each number having the same probability. It reminds me of the 3E ELH "Epic Initiative". In my book, that should mean you always win the initiative; that would be "epic" -...

Yes, but the problem with Probability Theory as applied to random generators (dice, coins, etc.) is that you must use the Law of Large Numbers to see each face appear as frequently as the probability of any given face to appear on an individual role. Try out the house rule as see what happens and h...

Re: The Evil Dice?

My question is why even roll dice if you don't like the randomness? R- Didn't say that I would roll the dice, just pointing out that the dice determine things with a great deal of dicey diceness, more than you would think. By convention, +5 is thought of as a large bonus. Really, it isn't. +5 = +25...

Someone above mentioned that there were new monsters and spells in many of the modules made for C&C. While that is great there is one problem; many do not buy adventures. I really haven't bought one in years since they are not what I want. What would be the problem with TLG collecting this material...

I agree. Feed it to them a bit slowly and they can decide whether or not to press on. It is important to note, coming out of the 3.x paradigm, that all encounters don't have to end in 'victory' for the PC's... +1 Though I will add that 'victory' doesn't always come from force of arms. Just like I remember enjoying, without THAC0. Ah I remember when people thought THAC0 was revolutionary! I picked up the Rapan Athuk S&S version and it is a very nice piece of work. I would grab this if you can, even if you pull it apart to use bits of it in another or your own mega dungeon. I both agree and disagree with Treebore... Why does a short sword do more damage than a dagger, a long sword more than a short sword, etc.? The size of the weapon. If an ogre picked up a human sized long sword, it would be as if using a short sword for him, with the damage potential of a longsword. ...

Providing alternatives does not condone them. Serl, you are implicitly condoning the action by providing an alternative, and it makes you complicit in the action if undertaken. If someone were to take your advice, and ended up losing their job because of it, you would bear some of the responsibility.
