Re: Alternate human benefit instead of a bonus prime attribu
Aragorn is hundreds of years younger than most elves yet is described as "the greatest traveller and huntsman" of the age. To this point, Aragorn is not a normal human, he is a descendant of the Numenoreans, and therefore of Elros Half-Elven, brother of Elrond. Much power flows through th...

Re: Alternate human benefit instead of a bonus prime attribu
A third prime is a pretty big advantage. I'm not sure a 10% xp bonus is sufficient (1 extra level every 10 levels) but perhaps your campaigns are very long lived Actually this is not really the way it would work. Take a Fighter of 11th level, the minimum required is 750,001, the character that earn...

Re: Praise and "Pulp Urban Arcana" Questions
A lot will depend on how you view those races. What are you using for your source for them? In my mind I would go something like this - Catfolk - Acrobat (for a more combat oriented Duelist/Acrobat, for "stealthy" Hooligan/Acrobat) Centaurs - Feral or Archer Dwarves - Soldier Elves - Arche...

It's half-off if you only need one significant figure of precision I think Tree was meaning that half of $17.99 (call it $18) is $8.99 (call it $9) not $9.99 (call it $10). An easy mistake, possibly even just a typo, but even at that still a great deal no matter how you look at it! I agree with Cap...

Re: Penalty for Breaking Alignment.
We have always played alignments as a guideline not a hard line. That is the alignment is the general world view of the character, not every single action fits in the alignment chosen, but in general they should. Actions that are diametrically opposed to your alignment, or prolonged actions against ...

He going to be sort of a dandy, but he needs to be able to handle his own. Doesn't want to have to rely on anyone. Number crunch would say Con since you will make saves against failed remove traps, or Wis, since you have a low score there. Character theme would say Cha. Dandy's are aloof and genera...

Re: Rules for playing an Illusionist in my games…
In C&C there is no advantage to recognizing (or knowing) that a spell is an illusion spell. One must still make a straight save without bonus. see pg. 72 of the PHB for more... Which printing of the PHB are you culling this from? Page 72 of 4th printing is "C" spells. Also, what Secti...

Re: Pulp resources
I love old time radio, and there are tons of sites out there that have either streaming or download of them. There are many concerns over the legality of offering these recordings. Federal Law will hold that pre-1978 audio recordings are not protected by copyright since the 1909 law does not cover t...

Whatever creature you create an Illusion of can only exhibit behaviors you have personally witnessed them exhibit. Spe...

Re: Favorite Critical Hit Systems?
An alternative to a critical hit system would be to use the rules for mooks similar to what is present in some other games. The most difficult thing to determine is when to apply the mook rule, basically I would determine the level of the monster, and compare that to that of the players group, and t...

Re: Ranged Weapons That Miss Their Target...
I like a system similar to that used in the Fantasy Flight 40k RPG's. If you miss your target based on the the penalty applied for shooting into a combat, you strike another combatant. The combatant struck is determined randomly.

Questions in the Darkenfold...
Well I started converting an old adventure to C&C and wanted to place it in the Darkenfold, so I started digging for material, not to much in AWD, Codex of Erde has some good stuff, then I hit C1 The Mortality of Green and was blown away, follow that with C2, the Shades of Mist, and whew... Didn...

What I mean is that Aihrde is a bit more empty and I can fill in some myself. Shape it more. I am not sure I ha the time for a complete world of my own. But then again.... And that is how Steve has always said Aihrde was to be used. Take the framework and make it your own. Even with the campaign in...

Re: Illusionists and Wizards and Sorcerers, oh my!
Ok in C&C the damage is as real from an illusory arrow as it is from magic missile. My examples are not the best. Again, illusionist are wonky. Try this....change the name from illusionist to sorcerer and see how that changes it all. Base the saves on different attributes. Whole new world. I am...

Re: Illusionists and Wizards and Sorcerers, oh my!
Ok so here is where I have a problem. The characters get a save at the onset of the spell. It is an INT save. If they fail, they take damage. That damage can kill. So now that some of the party made their save and thus no damage, they can tell their compatriots to disbelieve the illusion and he get...

Re: Illusionists and Wizards and Sorcerers, oh my!
Depends on what you can fit into a 40'+10'/level cube. Use your imagination and you can find many different ways to do it, volley's of arrows, the collapsing of the dungeon ceiling, some creature with a breath weapon, a fireball, etc. Exactly. But since most of those things have more than a visual ...

Re: Illusionists and Wizards and Sorcerers, oh my!
In theory Silent Image could take out many, many creatures, even at 1st level it creates an illusion that is 50 cubic feet in size, though you get a save, and if any save, then the next round everyone else gets to save again with the others shouting that it isn't real giving them a large bonus. Of ...

Re: Character Progression and Game Balance
2. It seems that these middle levels dont give the characters much in the way of advancement... eg the spell casters gain 1 L4 spell at each of Levels 7 and 8. Thats give or take 150,000xp to accumulate for only 2 spells. The other classes dont get much either... That is incorrect. At 7th level you...

I do it the same way that it is in the 40k RPG's. -20% on the to hit die roll (-4), if you miss because of the penalty, that is you fail to hit within 4, then you hit one of the other participants in the fight, determined randomly.

Resistance to spells strikes me as necessarily biological... If it wasn't then everyone could learn the Elven spell resistance. They can. Just start at age 2 and practice for 98 years straight. It's just a matter of ROI whether one considers it worthwhile to do AND if you have an elf that will teac...

I could certainly see moving more quietly or hiding better as being something with biological or cultural roots that need not be the results of decades of training. After all, Halflings start off much younger than Elves and they a...

The text isn't wrong even with the -3 interpretation. The difference is simply one of perceived degree. EXCEPT. The text states that the PC starts with a +1 to hit. A -3 to hit isn't even consider "proficient"... But, another PHB clarification for the 6th printing for sure as it could be ...
