To Them What Are Americans
Here's to the Army and Navy and the battles they have won; here's to America's colors, the colors that never run.
May the wings of liberty never lose a feather.

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

To all the soldiers in all the wars and engagements, THANK YOU for your service to me and this country. Happy Independence Day, may we all remain free and prosperous.
*yes, I know it isn't veterans day, but I treat the 4th of July as akin to veterans day because without our soldiers and their support staff we would, in a way, not remain independent

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I love coming back and seeing what you guys are posting.
Then I Google your Ship/Unit/etc. (My apologies to the other branches, I don't know what they're called).

I don't play cards, I wonder what the heck I'd do on a submarine. Probably flip the hell out. I suppose they screen for people who can't stand to be around other people day and night and feel like they can't breathe in an enclosed space.

Re: To Them What Are Americans
Played cards, watched movies, and worked out in our tiny "gym", to the point where my nickname became "The Wall", plus sparred with the other Martial Artists on board, regardless of discipline. Plus, since I was one of the "Assistant Repair Parts Petty Officers", I also used the lockers I had access to, to store and sell goodies to the crew towards the end of our patrols. So between that, standing watch, doing maintenance, and doing drills, it wasn't too horrible. Oh, and we did game for a couple of patrols, but most patrols we were on the wrong Watch rotations, etc... to do it.Aergraith wrote:I don't play cards, I wonder what the heck I'd do on a submarine. My wife was in the Army. It only took them 2 years to make her disabled. The Navy took almost 10 years to ruin my health.Lurker wrote:Treebore wrote:I actually served 1984 to 1994. I just posted my time on my boat above.

With that assignment list I am assuming you were a USAF weather forecaster and by the looks of it, SOWT. I am a leg, but a weather forecaster as well.

Wow, small world. Few in AF Wx understand it good enough to get SOWT out of that. Its good to see someone recognize it ... Then to enjoy the same great RPG ... small world!pawndream wrote:

I provided specialized weather support for the SOWT community 2001-2003, while stationed at Offutt, at a unit called SOFWOC, which eventually relocated to Hurlburt Field and became the 23d Weather Squadron and then the 23d Special Operations Weather Squadron. I am pretty familiar with the SOWT community, from a support standpoint. I never ate any snakes though.Lurker wrote:pawndream wrote:

Korea was fun. I was stationed at Yongsan, basically serving as the Staff Weather Officer for the two-four stars. I built theater level briefings. Interesting job and place.
Hawaii is nice. It's a cool place to spend a few years, but I wouldn't want to live here long-term: too expensive and terrible traffic. But, it's a vacation spot for a reason. It's beautiful here.

Re: To Them What Are Americans
SOFWOC was my very first forecasting assignment, and given the geopolitical events of the time, 2001-2003, a VERY challenging one, as I am sure you are aware
I recently was TDY at Guam and really enjoyed my time on the island. Like Hawaii, but more chill.
