Hi guys and gals... just thought I'd pop in and say hello. New to the board, but been playing C&C since 3rd printing PHB first hit the shelves and have recently updated to the BEAUTIFUL 4th Crusade (much more impressive in person than the online pics of the covers).
I'm an old-school player since D&D was in a purple-ish box with the guy holding a spear and the lady holding a green smoldering orb of some sort, poised to attack a green dragon (ahhh, how I miss the 3-hole-punched rulebooks). Also played a ton of Top Secret S.I., AD&D2E, and D.C. Heroes (TSR couldn't get ALL my money!).
Anyways, hello to all!!!
Like this one?
Welcome to the Crusades!
Note the Erol Otis illustration on the cover of this Basic Box Set.
(and the Expert Box Set; see bottom picture)
He has a unique style...

Thanks for the warm welcome, all!
Aneoth, your pics bring back so many fond memories!
Quick question about converting older A/D&D stuff to C&C. To convert old-style Armor Class to the new "higher is better" style, do you simply subtract the older AC from 20? For example, if an AD&D creature had an AC of 3, does it have an AC of 17 in C&C? Does a -1 now equal 21? Could it really be that simple?
Thanks all in advance.

Now that brings back a lot of old and fun memories. When I was in the Army, we used those books (basic & expert) when we were out in the field and didn't want to risk messing up our AD&D hard-bounds.
I wish I still had my old box sets, but I gave them away years ago.

Hey Brotherdew here.
I'm new to the game, although I don't feel like a stranger after Trollcon. (well, not any stranger than any of the other people on the board lol)
My first exposure to rpgs was the old basic set in the red box, which Larry Elmore signed for me last week.
I have been playing D&D for about 6 or 7 years now, with most of my experiences being with 3.5 and 4th edition D&D. I have also played D20 Modern and Shadowrun.
I have a son and daughter, Ben the elder and Ashlee the camera girl to those who we met at the con, and they both game as well.
We live in Dierks Arkansas (mapquest it, it is a real place lol) where I work for a newspaper and pastor a church.
We are really enjoying C&C and look forward to being a part of this thriving, growing, dysfunctional community.

Truly my name is Julian,
(m, 38, Professional Driver, father, youth football coach, and more)
thank all who have come to this site and help it prosper all these years. Me myself, I live in the west... Arizona to more specific. I guess you can call me a nomad of sorts for I have lived in several states and have at least travelled in most.
My role-playing began in the early 80's. I was introduced to a group of young players (Jr High School days) who played the original Champions. At first I just read the comics they would let me borrow during lunch while they played in the library but after a few days I began asking them question about what they were doing, it turned out they were role-playing and it has been in my life ever since.
I took RPGs to the Army when I joined at 17 back in late 89. But, life has a way of wrapping you up in its difficulties. So from time to time I have had to put the "torch" down. But never for long. I must confess that most games I have played was due to my being the GM. I have played more game titles then I think I could right....I remember the basic box sets of D&D and who remembers the game that promised to be the only rpg book you would ever buy (Synnibar...year I ran that game too)?
I have recently came across Fantasy Grounds after getting back into a desire to game. I have to give them credit for introducing me to C&C. The books for this system truly has brought me nearly full circle. I have been trying to gather up new players to play at C&C but it is going slow. So I decided to google for a group and it led me to here.
Hope that I can provide and enjoyment and support for members here. I don't mind playing (but I have always been one to really get into the role-playing aspect...and got past the power gaming stage as a child... nothing against those who enjoy doing that, its just not my thing), I naturally kind of move into the GMing more due to the fact that I liked wrapping others in my creations to tell a shared story that always seemed to mix combat, intrigue, romance and every other type of gaming aspect (you see I enjoy variety).
In closing I was raised in San Diego, Ca and back then where I grew up most of the players were Black (yes as in the race... which I am also). By the time I went into the army I found out that most of my friends were those who had shared the same hobbies and interest. As I have travelled I have been able to witness that gaming had no "typical" race or color...It broke racial bonds... and with gaming I was able to make "gangsters" into gamers as well as your "Jocks"... What a universal work we have in gaming.
I also play wargames (mainly Warmachine... but wargaming has always played second to RPGs. My experience with online games started with the creation of the "Net" back then I learned how to use chat rooms to get the gaming fix I could not find at times where I was locally. As you can see I am very long winded so I shall in this peace by saying. I am loving what I see in C&C and am hoping to find new players to become involved and excited about this gaming system (either as a player but more then likely as a CK)
Best of gaming to all.

Hey I'm John Reyst and I manage d20pfsrd.com, an SRD site for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. I actively keep an eye on Castles & Crusades (and this forum) as I am a fan of old-school gaming and played and ran C&C for some time. I'm anxiously waiting for the CKG to come out too, though after all this time I suppose I should know how to be patient lol

Oh I do. I've been lurking here for quite some time. I like to keep an eye on C&C so if I can ever get into a local game I'm still "in the loop" etc. It's just hard finding a C&C game in the Detroit area.
