Farm Explosion!
Farm Explosion!
As several of you know I have been hatching out a lot of eggs of chickens, quail, turkeys, ducks, and geese (none of the geese have been successful yet), to where we are still waiting on hundreds more to hatch. Anyways, today we got reminded we still have goats. She gave birth to 4! FOUR! One of which is so small I will be amazed if she lives. 3 girls and boy. So the "ahhh! its sooo cuuute!" phrases are in the air and my herd has once again upsized, by almost 30%, in one day.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Baby goat! Are they like veal? Mmmm..... Don't forget to save the bones to make goat stock.
Actually over 60% of all "veal" sold in the US is actually goat meat. Didn't know that, did you?

You and me both, O. I'm glad it was just births and not something else entirely.

I'm always interested in Treebore's farm life. Grew up on a small farm and dream of a garden someday and chickens!
Good breeding stock you have Treebore.
I'll confess I had a horrible thought when I read your forum topic that a barrel of fuel burst and caught fire. Baby goats, I can handle. Watching a barn go up in smoke, not so pleasant.

In the words of my good friend Trevor, "Hey, put an arrow in that flying mummy! What could possibly happen?"

Yeah, I prefer exploding goats over exploding tanks and burning buildings too.

There's gamer/farmer precedent of course:

A good read. Some of it is a bit dated, but actually some great nuggets of advice in there.

My mum's family used to keep chickens and geese when she was a kid (see? Goat reference! - err, OK, I'll stop it), but the only baby beasties I've ever really looked after is kittens. However, our school used to have chickens, and we'd all have to help with them. The hens were very sweet-tempered; happy chickens make one of the most contented sounds in the world.
