Old School Map

Post by Steerpike »

So, in honor of the groups first C&C session, I created a short adventure for us to play. Tried my hand at making an old school map using GIMP. I thought it came out pretty well. What do you guys think?

Nice map. Got an encounter key to go along with it?
Actually, I might swipe this for a game I'm running this weekend....

Still working up the encounters, etc. I'll see if I can get a PDF up this week with the encounters and specifics regarding the adventure. First adventure for C&C, and I haven't played a session yet, so hopefully it will balance out ok
Feel free to use whatever you like.

Nice! I love GIMP, it's a rockin' piece of software. Ubuntu really shines with GIMP and Openoffice. I only have to add a few other tidbits to have it do everything I want it to (K3B, Devede, K9Copy, Audacity, Inkscape, and a few others). Don't need windows or macos at all
When you factor in Firefox and excellent plugins like Zotero (my absolute fave!), cooliris, noscript, and adblock plus you have a very nice and secure computing environment. Of course, if you are windows or macos, most of this software is also available to you free of charge just like on a Linux box.

Yeah, I am trying Ubuntu 9.04 right now. Previous to that I was using OpenSUSE and gOS. I like Ubuntu - only problem is I get a lot of corrupt packages with the package manager and have to clean out the cache and download them again. Never had that happen before.

Anyway, thanks for all the comments, guys. When I get this adventure written up, I'll post the whole thing here in PDF form, if the Troll Lord guys don't mind.

If Ubuntu doesnt work out for you, try the Ubuntu based Mint Linux 7. It's Ubuntu based but has a slicker interface and its own package manager as well as the synaptics base Debian manager. Mint also is the easiest to install (like ubuntu) and has the best preconfiguration (most packages are already installed including base addons for firefox like flash) for windows or osx users migrating away from their old OS.

I've looked at Mint linux, but I haven't tried it. I want to give it try though.

Ubuntu is working fine, and I think I've installed the packages I wanted so I'll probably just keep using it for a while. I only have the problem when downloading packages, and even then it's usually only once or twice, and then the package installs. Not sure why. I ran e2fsck and the disk seems fine, but the packages keep getting corrupted upon download.

Anyway, sorry to digress!

The nifty little util called AptOnCD will backup all of your installed apt packages, as long as you installed them using aptitude, apt-get, or the synaptics package manager. It will make a handy .iso or burn direct to CD. Further brand new installs of ubuntu or mint linux can use this disc with aptoncd to deploy all of the backed up packages immediately without having to dig around for them again. Very easy.

Heh...yeah you can't tell from the map itself, but the pool 13a connects to the pool in area 14 via an underwater tunnel. The characters are welcome to swim on over there...
