That's funny Breakdaddy... I just bought Star Wars Armada yesterday, and am going to play it with my son tonight. Good stuff.

I bought it upon release. Haven't even opened it yet.

Armada hasn't exactly knocked my socks off. The ships look cool though.

Armada, X-wing, among others, are tempting. Just not enough money.

Had so much fun playing Munchkin with the family, that I decided to get the first expansion pack. 112 new cards. We played last night.. 2 games. I won one and my oldest won the other. Lot's of fun, and doesn't take long to learn or play. Good stuff...

Did a presentation and discussion on Moral Leadership at work, and the practical exercise with Axis & Allies and Risk. Had Axis & Allies: Europe set-up but no takers. I joined in on the Risk Game. Been a long time since I played, but it was fun. We had four players and I was winning by the time we called it (I had Australia and South America)

Finally pulled the trigger on a space version of Attack Wing. I went with Star Wars instead of Star Trek. Got the Falcon and few additional Tie-Fighters to even things out.

Also picked up the Brass Dragon. It was the last metallic dragon I needed for my collection of Dragons for D&D Attack Wing. I got the same sculpt as a round base mini, but wanted it with the cards and Attack Wing Base.

As mentioned in the post above, I picked up the the Star Wars: X-Wing game earlier this month with a Tie Phantom, Tie Bomber, Millennium Falcon and Slave I. I figured, like a lot of my games, it would be a while before I actually got to play it. But low and behold, last night a Buddy (former Fighter Pilot) and I got together and went through the Quick-Start and all 3 Scenarios that come with the box set (which has 2 Tie Fighters, and 1 X-Wing Fighter, along with templates, asteroids, satellites, and shuttle - all cardboard flats). We started around 6:30 PM and went until about 12:30 AM.

We've played D&D: Attack Wing in a 3 person game before. It was fun, but as it was our first time playing these type of games, a bit overwhelming, we got the hang of it, but didn't finish the battle.

This time around, we decided to play the quick-start rules first. Leaving out targeting, actions, special abilities, etc. I played Rebel (i.e. X-Wing) the whole evening, while my buddy played Imperial (i.e. Tie Fighters). The quick-start was really good, it got us the feel for how the ships maneuver and the basic stuff of turns - movements, combat, damage, etc. That game lasted about 12 to 15 rounds and was a lot of fun.

We then shifted to the 1st Scenario - Rebel's escorting a senator in a limited maneuver shuttle. We added in all the "stuff" and while we referenced the rules, it didn't distract all that much from game play. Over the course of the evening, we were amazed at the amount of subtlety that is in the rules and the wealth of options with the scenarios, force on force and point builds. I ended up winning the first three games (quick-start, Rebel escort - scenario 1; Damaged Rebel Ship in an asteroid field - Scenario 2), while the last game which was a Raid by imperials on Rebel Holo-net, my buddy one. That last one really showed how fast the Tie-Fighters can be, and how a simple left turn instead of right, will cost you the game.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but there was something about Star Wars: Attack Wing that really made it great. Don't know when I'll get around to playing it again, but recommend it...and I think this is probably better than D&D: Attack Wing. Try it out if you haven't already!

Only one player could make it to game night last night, so we planned to play Axis & Allies. I had the Axis pieces in place when my buddy arrived and we started on the Allies setup. It took us about a minute to reveal neither of us really was in the mood to deal with A&A's complexity and time commitment. My buddy suggested we play Small World. He said we could finish a game in the amount of time it takes to set up A&A. I was sold. We dashed to the book store and picked up a copy of Small World. I'm happy to report the game is great. We spent about 2 hours punching out all of the pieces, reading the rules, and playing one game. Unlike a lot of modern board games, you can play with just 2 players (it is designed for 2-5 players). The game is set up with an enormous number of possible combinations between races and special abilities, so there is a ton of replay value. I can't believe there are actually expansion sets for this thing. Game play was very fun. It involves strategic and tactical thinking, but it is manageable. There are times when I stare at the starting position of A&A and kind of dread diving in because there is a decent chance I am going to botch something in the first round and I know I'm going to be twisting in the wind for the next 3-4 hours watching the painful fallout lead to an inevitable loss. The decisions in Small World aren't as difficult (but are still challenging) and the fast game play means you don't have to suffer for hours. Small World was a big win for me (although I lost the first game). I'm really looking forward to playing it again soon.

So we played 4 or 5 games. It was fast and fun. Even got my mom to play and she loved it. So, we had two teenagers, two 50-somethings and a 70-something at the gaming table. Love this game. Great for mixed groups and parties.

I recently received a copy of Zombie Dice from Kerry Breitenstein (of Twilight Creations) at GenCon. I told her I had (after many years of putting it off) bought many of the sets for the main Zombies game. I also mentioned that my children, one in particular, have been gaming with me some. I told her that both of my children really enjoy the dice games. She gave me an open copy of Zombie Dice. It was a lot of fun, especially if you don't always have time to run the regular version of Zombies. I own almost every Zombies product now, except for the card game, the Humans sets, Martians, and the various bags of different Zombies. All of these games are simple, yet fun. Worst case scenario, a card effect or two might need interpretation. It's been a hit with some of the folks at the local game store.

Played several games of Star Munchkin (2-Player, but still fun) with all the expansions for it. Star Munchkin; Star Munchkin 2 – The Clown Wars; Star Munchkin 3 – Diplomatic Impunity; and Star Munchkin: Space Ships. We shuffled the deck and played all three games without adding the old cards back in just to see what would show up.

Also played Citadels. Had played it solo, but had several games of it (2-Player) this weekend. Really a fun game and I can see a lot of strategy in it. Especially with more players.

Got the Machi Koro Deluxe Edition. It has both expansions and better components. I love this game. Fun and easy to teach. It's been a regular play at our family events.
Tokaido is another game I can't stop playing. The goal of the game is to have the best vacation. You collect victory points by visiting shrines or hotsprings, meeting interesting people or collecting a series of cards that make a panoramic picture of 3 different locations. I wasn't expecting to like the game as much as I do but never judge a book by its cover and all that.

Played Axis & Allies again recently. We started in the early afternoon, so we had a chance to actually finish the game for a change. I had the Axis powers and went down in flames, but made a good effort at it. We had a massive naval battle in the Pacific between the US and Japan late in the game. 6 battleships, 3 aircraft carriers fully loaded with 6 fighters, 4 cruisers, 4 destroyers, and 19 submarines (16 belonged to the US). It was an epic fight. Japan emerged victorious (barely), but its resources were gutted and there was no way to keep up with the US and UK's production. I conceded an honorable defeat.

How is that game? Seemed like a good kickstarter.

As far the Board Games I've played, got several games in over Turkey/Thanksgiving Day...

Munckin with Holidaze Expansion. Always fun
Attack! hadn't played this in a while, but it was good fun as well.
Car Wars Classic. Had a blast playing this one.

1. Munckin with Unnatural Axe Expansion and Epic Level Board (Yes we played to 20, but without the Epic Rules...and I won!)
2. Star Fluxx
3. Fluxx

On Tap...Munchkin Lite, Ninja Burger, Citadels, Cannibal Pygmies in the Jungle of Doom, Ogre Pocket Edition, Abduction, Car Wars, Open Fire! (Flames of War), Dungeon, etc.

We'll see what we actually play though with just a few more days. We're competing with a New Ping Pong Table, New Air Hockey Table and a New XBOX 1 with Gears of War, Black Ops III and Madden '16.

So, I've heard and read about this game for years and watched some play at the LGGC and GC and have been wanting to try it.

I watched the above video and found it hilarious.

Anyway, if I buy the starter game - should I go with the original or the 5E version?

Thanks for any and all opinions!

This weekend we got 2 games of Star Trek: Ascendancy in. We just got the much delayed Ferengi and Cardassian expansions and were eager to give them a try.

The only thing I have done in the last year or two is buy expansions for the Tex Hold em Zombie card game I linked up above. I've considered buying a couple of games, but passed. Only board game I have played lately is Dungeons.
