North Texas RPG CON 2010 (June 3-6, 2010)

Post by Aneoth of Ironwood »

I had another Member name, but could not log on with it, so I created a new account...

Which is why I could not post a direct link to the conventions web site....

ANYWAY:

The 2010 Con will be held June 3, 2010 - June 6, 2010 (Thursday - Sunday).

You can learn more and register at the official web site: ntrpgcon dot com

The cost for admission is $20 for the entire weekend. (One time fee).

We have 7 confirmed guests attending this year (Rob Kuntz, Tim Kask, Paul Jaquays, Dennis Sustare, Steve Winter, Jim Ward, Jason Braun) I am sure you know some of them.

There will be about 30 scheduled RPG gaming sessions of which 2 or 3 will be C&C related Game sessions.

One C&C Society member of renown will be running "official" C&C events both Friday and Saturday nights.

I was not approved to report that persons name, so you will have to be patient for now.

In addition to those offically scheduled games, there are other tables avaiable for open gaming.

IE. Board games, card games, other PRGs and the like can start at any time of the day.

Just sit at a table and start playing.

At one of those open game tables; I plan to run a beginners C&C session (Using the Dark Chateau Module) for 1st-3rd level PCs.

Although the Convention Host has approved that gaming session I do not know (yet) what day that session will be run.

I will post here once I do know.

As was the case last year, there will be a raffle held on Saturday Afternoon to help defray some of the costs for holding the convention (at least some of the costs anyway).

I hope to see some of you there in June.

I'll be there!
Seriously guys, it's a fantastic Con. Chock full of gaming around the clock... with some of the most legendary names in the business (the six names preceding mine on the list) flinging dice on both sides of the screen. It really is a great time!

I enjoyed everything about last years convention.

But some things stand out more than others...

I was honored to play in D&D games WITH Paul, Dennis and Jason and I was also able to play in adventures created and DMed by notable luminaries such as Frank Mentzer, Tim Kask and Rob Kuntz.

Over the weekend I played in several other games with many other gamers, all of which were great fun.

I truly enjoyed being able to meet and visit with so many of the men who helped to mold Role Playing Games into what they are now.

Colton (my grandson) was the youngest registered attendee (12 years old then) at last years convention and he was able to meet some of the folks who had input into creating the games he enjoys playing and they did so long before he was born.

Another thing I enjoyed about the convention last year is that it is centered around old school gaming.

Even though there are other games available, the atmosphere is most certainly "Old School".

Colton played in the only 3rd Edition AD&D Game offered last year.

That game lasted from around 5 PM Friday evening to 5 AM Saturday Morning.

When I registered Colton for the convention and for game spots; I had not pre-signed him up for any game on Saturday morning....
To this day I swear I knew what would happen....

It's exciting to see some C&C on the list. I'll have to try to pop in to your game.

Last year was really great fun. What an exhaustingly good time! This year will be bigger and better, with more space (i.e. less funk), more games, an actual vendor's area, workshops, panels, etc. That raffle really kicked butt last year, too. You get some free tickets just for walking through the door.

I noticed that Frank's not on the guest list, though. I wonder if he can't attend, or just hasn't been able to confirm it yet. It was really great to hear his old war stories during the bus ride to the Reaper tour last year.

Frank Mentzer will be missed.

I think he has a family event (Fathers 90th Birthday?) that conflicts that weekend.

I would welcome any and all to watch and/or play in my game.

I will have from 3 to 8 players. Depending on interest and which adventure is used.

Knowing my luck, I may end up CKing a solo adventure..... which I could do.
If not, then I will start a game of Munchkin.....

I KNOW that will draw a crowd.

I don't think I can do 2 Cons in one month. If I end up not doing Troll Con (at the end of June) I'll try and make this Con instead.

However it looks like we will be able to make Troll Con so I'll have to miss this again.

Which is a shame, because there is someone there I would really, really, really like to have a face to face discussion with.

If it were not so far away, I would be able to attend, but I just don't have the vacation time to go there and other places. Oh well. Maybe... I'll know more after today, whether the bosses give me the three weeks vacation improvement (from the current 5 days.)

TLG will be at NTRPGCon this year. Jim Ward, myself and possible one other Troll will be in attendance. Jim will be running some Tainted Lands games and i or someone else will be looking to run a few C&C games. Come to Big D in June to catch TLG!

Do any of you know if TLG will set up a Vender Shelf, or a booth for offering TLG products?

Last year there were about 55 registered attendees at the North Texas RPG Convention (in its first year) and we fully expect 100 plus attendees this year.

However, only a few companies were represented last year (with products for sale) and they were mostly low key, yet I think they did well enough to warrant the effort.

Not that I have attended a lot of Conventions (or been involved in RPG sales) but I think sales could happen.

Just asking.

I imagine that is a part of why Hudson, Jim Ward, and at least one other Troll will be attending. It wouldn't be a business trip if they didn't bring product to sell and promote C&C. Well, it can be, but it is much more convincing to the IRS if you bring and sell product.

Just a friendly bump. This one's coming up soon! The con rate for rooms expires tomorrow, so if you're thinking about coming but haven't secured a room yet, now is the time!

Just a few more days! Looking forward to getting my game (and my drank) on. I'm running an art demo at noon on Saturday, if anyone is interested. I think there are about 19 seats left. Sign up!

I thought those going, who were hoping to see Jim Ward there, will not be able to do so. Apparently, he contacted the con organizer and canceled the trip, for medical reasons. How serious, I won't speculate, but it appears that a stay in the hospital was requested by his doctor.

Get well, Jim.

Like said in many other con threads, I would love to get th NTRPGCon. Any con with Jaybird is worthy, and all of those other guests just make it a little better.

I'll be there in spirit brotha!

I'll hoist one for ya, O. And like Serl said, Jim Ward had to cancel at the last minute. Let's all send him whatever thoughts/prayers/juju we can muster.

For last minute folks, Indigo Rose and I were able to get rooms at the Wyndham only a couple miles down the road for $79 a night.
'See' everyone there,

Well the convention was loads of fun.
Did not run a C&C game though.

Hope to do so next year.

We will see.
