One story from the cosmology of Inzae

Post by cleaverthepit »

There is much more to this story but here are the essential elements. In time will edit it, making it clearer and more Inzaic.
The Blinding of the Fates

The Five Fates were not always blind. In that time after the sons and daughters of the Maidens gave life to man, the Five Sisters became aware of them. The Five Sisters resided in the lowest halls of Mount Nistor at this time and sought to involve themselves in the world again.

Only they knew the location of the Web of Nis and its power to guide the destiny of those they began to gather strands from the Web of Nis which related to man. To aid them, the five sisters stole ten children from the goblin Izdadrad. Each of the sisters taught the goblins how to access and harvest strands from the Web of Nis. The sisters then set about weaving the fates of man. For many years this was done without the knowledge of any but the sisters and the ten stolen children of Izdadrad.

Hildir, in his youth and after the slaying Inzaa, took the form of a Hart and wandered the world reveling in his freedom. In his wandering he laid eyes upon a Hind of great beauty. They gave birth to the Hinir. The first amongst the Hinir was Bodir who was special. He took the form of Hildir but had the heart of the Hind. Bodir traveled wide across the world for many aeons and was satisfied until he heard the voice of Sovil singing. It was the first song and Bodir was entranced.

Sovil was of the tribe of man. When the fates learned of Bodirs enchantment to Sovil they devised a devious end for her. This was done to break Bodir and thereby take a slight vengeance upon Hildir. For, in the early years, Hildir refused the Five Sisters remonstrations for forgiveness in not aiding in the fight against Inzaa and lit fire to their first tapestry after the fall of Inzaa.

The Sisters entwined Sovils fate such that she was moved from one prison to the next. Never so far from Bodir that he could not hear her, but never so close as that he could find her. Bodir had related many of the songs contents to Hildir. Hildir, for his part, observed Bodirs ever growing enchantment and despaired for he saw Bodirs loss of freedom and joy of it as Bodir continually gave chase to the maker of the song. Bodir wasted in want.

Hildir himself searched for Sovil but could never find her so well had the fates hidden her and only Bodir could hear her song. The more Hildir searched for her, the less she sang and the more Bodir waned. And in this way, Hildir contributed to Bodirs final repose. For eventually, Bodir lost heart and laid down to rest upon a rock and has never moved since.

Hildir, in a rage, flew hither and non to find Sovil. In these days of searching, he happened across the goblin Mortzva. Mortzva had gone in search of the ten children of Izdadrad and had just located them in the bowels of Mount Nistor. He related to Hildir what was transpiring there.

With Mortzva in tow, Hildir descended to Mount Nistor and into the Sisters chamber. There he beheld the mountain of threads that was the fates of man. With wrath and fury in mind he demanded of the Sisters that Sovils fate be changed and she be made known to Bodir.

The Sisters at first refused and demanded to be placed in Insalla in return for such a favor. Hildir had little choice. For not only was Bodirs being at the whim of the Sisters but also he had learned from Bodir that Inzaa would return and that to this return are tied the fates man. Bodir spirited the Sisters away to Insalla and place them in donjon not unlike that one in the bowels of Mount Nistor. The Sisters began to unravel the fate of Sovil. With them, he brought the mountain of threads that was the fate of man.

In this moment, Hildir witnessed the power of the fates and knew that their whim would do him no good in the final battle to come. So, as they were completing the unraveling, Hildir descended upon them and sliced of their finger, removed their lips, tore out their tongues, severed their ears and gouged out their eyes. With this, the fates could no longer control the fates of man at whim simply weave it. But he did not kill them, for the mountain of thread that was fate of man was apparent. The Sisters were the only ones who could continue weaving the fate of man and lest they all die and the world with them, he allowed them to live.

During his moments of destruction, one of the Sisters cut the thread of Sovil, and so she died. Seeing there was nothing more to be done, Hildir left and took the body of Bodir to a high mountain and let him rest. Here, Bodir did not die but remained, motionless and spiritless listening to the winds and occasionally, only occasionally hearing the echo of the songs of Sovil. In these moments he would revive for a time and come off his mountain. But these times were short and rare and ever more rare with time as the echos of Sovils songs emptied into the voids of time and space.

Mortzva convinced Izdadrad to allow his ten children to remain with the fates for they knew how to gather the threads of the fate of man. Mortzva decided to remain with the fates in the hopes of learning how to weave and thereby control man.

Sounds like you're following the same model for the Aihdre books... gazeteer/primer first then a more complete book.

I *really* like this! Thanks for the little tidbit...
