C&C Ravenloft - How do I get started?

Post by zomben »

So, I was talking to a coworker about the 3.x D&D Ravenloft game she's in. Reminded me of how much I liked the setting back when I collected it during the 2nd ed AD&D years (never got to play it, but loved reading the books).

GOt to thinking it would be a great setting for a C&C game. I'm digging around trying to figure out what books I should pick up. I'm going to focus on the TSR stuff, not the White Wolf, for now.

So, aside from the Domains of Dread hardcover, and the two Monstrous Compendium Appendices, is there anything else I should pick up to start with?

I really don't want to get overwhelmed with details up front. I just want enough to get into the setting, and start a small game of it.

Ideas?

Well, you could start by playing in an empty spot for my (I6) Ravenloft game that starts the first Friday in October and lasts untily the party wins or dies. I figure 4 Fridays at the most. Hopefully more than one Friday, though.

As for running your own campaign I really like the 3 boxed sets.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I'm assuming that's an online game? thanks for the invite, but Fridays are normally no good for me anyway.

What are the three boxed sets you mention? I know there were a ton of items that came out after I stopped collecting the books.

If your patient you can get them for under $10.00 each on eBay. Or if your real patient you can get them for under $7.00 each like I did. That includes shipping sots.

dude those three items are all you really need. everything converts so easily since it's 2ed.

the fear, horror, and madness checks and powers checks work fine as is. spell alteration in RL works fine with C&C spells.

roll with it.

i've done a game set in RL around a year ago, and i reallllllly need to get time to finish that one.
( here: http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19537 ).

everything worked fine, there were no bumps between systems.

good luck.

Maybe you should play in the SKYPE I6 I am running next month. There is a Friday slot open.
