Adventures in the EastMark

Post by Hrolfgar »

Been playing some C&C since late November'08. Had 7 sessions to date, with 5 more or less regular players. Had some problems getting everyone together for some sessions. Some doubt about future games currently.

The 1st session, I used Those First Steps by Jason Vey as an introduction (with additions) to the campaign.

only 3 pc's in 1st session. All 1st level adventurers.
Gnarlis Slate, gnome thief/illusionist (a rather dubious/ tricky person)
Nhamanul, Barbarian human from the rugged Stony Hills (cave man)
Oswald Osbourne, Wizard human, originally from Dunfalcon.

they are traveling with a npc merchant, Kerdin of Durnst, he also travels with his two sons and 3 men at arms. Kerdin has a wagon pulled by 2 work horses, a mule, and 2 riding horses (used by Kerdin or his sons).

The party has traveled along a poorly maintained road passing though County Easmoor just east of Eastmark to a place meeting the River High Road. Nhamanul spotted a deer near a some trees and decides he wants to do some hunting. Oswald tries to convince him to continue their journey without delay.

The gnome Gnarlis sneaks ahead scouting the road while the others argue. The gnome manages to sneak past a kobold ambush along the road. He sneaks closers and listens to the kobolds' chittering.Gnarlis begins to use a Message spell to warn Oswald about this ambush.

However, Oswald and Kerdin have been moving along the road leaving Nham following behind. The kobolds sprung the ambush. Luckily the kobold leader leaps atop a big rock along the road and tries to bully the humans into handing over their food, horses, and money.

Oswald quickly cast a Shield seeing the the kobold has a small bow. Kerdin on the wagon ducks down shieded by his guards, telling his boys get out range. Gnarlis sneak in to get a backstab on the nearest kobold. Nham charges wildly at the leader hurling his spear from long range and missing.

During the fight Nham is surronded by kobolds after taking 4 hp damage from arrows. Oswald blasted one kobold with magic missle. Gnarlis took out one kobold with a back stab. Nham took 5 more hp damage but killed 2 kobolds over the next 2 rounds. A guard killed a kobold trying to stab Oswald with a rusty shortsword. Kerdin's oldest son, also named Kerdin rode in to attack a kobold on horse he missed but the kobold turning to attack rolled a one. I ruled that the poor kobold got trampled by the horse.

The fight ended with Gnarlis cutting down the fleeing kobold leader with his short sword and Oswald casting Sleep on the kobolds surronding Nham. The spell knocked out the 3 remaining kobolds and the barbarian.

(The players were disappointed with the loot and the xps for this encounter).

The adventurers travelled a few miles camping along the road. Early the next day the party passed by Bowbridge. There they met an old woman who helped Nhamanul with a cure light wounds and a handful of goodberries. She informs the adventurers that some ruffians had passed by yesterday.

After travelling about an hour along the River High Road, the party spots a beaten and robbed gnome merchant named Gimbel with his family. They had just been robbed by some bandits about 1 mile back to the west. With some warning the party sends Gnarlis ahead to scout, followed by distance by Nham and two of Kerdin's guards( armed with pole arms). Oswald followed in front of the remaining guard and the merchants (both Kerdin and Gimbel).

Gnarlis finds 4 bandits at a campfire just off the road. Unfortunely the bandits find him as well. He manages to send a Message to Oswald before he is surronded by the bandits who tell him to disarm and hand over his money.

Oswald moved ahead quickly followed by Nham. The bandits were given a nasty surprise when tying up the gnome. Oswald sleep spell knocked them out. Oswald and Nham began to tie up the sleeping bandits.

Gnarlis decided not to waste good rope, and killed one with his dagger. The merchants wagon had rolled up to the camp about the time Gnarlis was going to finish another bandit. The gnome merchants was apalled by such villianry from a fellow gnome. Gimbel said there was six bandits that attacked him.

Oswald cast Charm person on the last bandit, and convinced his new friend to show the party where his other friends were. the bandit led them to a cave nearby, the gnome merchants cart was parked outside. Oswald had the bandit friend call out to the other bandits who were stashing loot inside the cave.

The first bandit out the cave was knocked out by Gnarlis' Color spray spell. But the bandit leader ws only stunned. The bandit leader pushed his way free after a couple rounds. Nham had took a nasty wound from the bandits sword, Oswald did manage to stab the leader for few hp damage.

Gnarlis slit the knocked out bandit throat. The bandit jumped on the gnome marchant cart horse nearby and escaped.

The merchants then approched the cave. Gimbel rewarded the party for getting his goods back with a bag of 100gp. the party found some hidden loot in the cave including a couple of healing potions and a bottle of wine.

The adventurers forgot about the charmed bandit, the charm person wore off, he wandered away. Later he snuck back into camp and freed the 2 captured bandits.

The session when the party travelled to the Two Pikes Tavern in Eelford the next day.

Whoops.
That may come back to haunt them.
