Okay, I've tried this before, but I'm going to try to log our weekly game night here . . .
This week we picked up the Big Game (the characters that appear in the codex) after a year and a half hiatus. For those of you who don't know the Big Game has been running since 1984. They are all high level at this point.
So the party doesn't exactly know where it is and they have been left using their feet and eyes to explore the new world they are in. Some of them suspect that they have traveled into Aihrde's past, others that its another dimensional matrix. Some don't care.
They found themselves in the Umhart Mountains, the party split, some going north along the old dwarf road, the others continueing an easterly path over the mountains and into the lowlands. It wasn't long before they came out of the mountains and stumbled upon the home of a wealthy, retired halfling. This goodly fellow, Scurlogh, invited them to sup and they sat on their veranda and feasted for many hours. Scurlogh did little toward answering their questions but did entertain them with a good pipe and fine brew. They met his friend, one of the fey, a beautiful woman who said little. Eventually Scurlough retired, only after giving them the run of the house.
So they took a stroll about, looking at the rogue's many stolen artifacts and precious art. They eventually came to a room with a tapestry. The tapestry was 60 feet in length and 12 feet high. It depicted scene of a wizard defending his tower/castle from a large bull troll and score or so of men.
It did not take the mage long to figure out that the tapestry was a portal and the paladin discovered that the figures seemed to take on a life of their own when looked at over long. A conversation with Andreola, the fey, followed in which she bantered with the mage and tried to tease him into entering the supposed portal. Though he did not fall for it, the fighter (a female by the name of Jenia, Jaren's grandaughter in fact) walked up and touched the tapestry. She was instantly transported into the scene. The party followed to 'her rescue.'
A fight immediately insued wherein the paladin, fighter and monk dispatched the huge troll. The mage called to the wizard in the tower, only in time to be struck by a bolt of lightening. He managed to evade it and a wizard's duel followed. The mage was caught off guard and at first the wizard in the tower...one Jared Al Khul...got the better of him, taking advantage of spells like Project Image, Grasping Hand, and Reverse Gravity. But in the end the Mage mastered him by casting feather fall on himself and slamming him with a power word stun (Aristobulus' skill as a mage is almost unmatched and can on occassion cast more than one spell in a round). Jared was then trussed up by the Paladin.
A skirmish with the men at arms ended rather quickly and they retreated back to the inner keep. Attempted banter with Jared ended in an insulting tone from the bound wizard. At one point, in aggravation, Aristobulus listed all those things that they had just accomplished, ie saving his life, killing the troll, etc., ending it with and you do not welcome us but treat us like miscreants. To which Jared said "You are not wholly a fool, for I do not welcome you in my house."
It was almost the end of the wizard but the tension passed when Aristobulus geased him and forced him to speak his name and his order. They learned that in fact he was a wizard name Tamias Hiltbrand of the White Order, the selfsame order that Nulak-Kiz-Din belonged to in the days before the coming of the Dark.
Shortly thereafter the party quit the tower and wizard, leaving him trussed up on his walls. They traveled south into the scrub land on the edge of the great southern desert. There the mage leaned on his staff for many house gazing north at the tower. He could not decide how best to approach the wizard, if at all.
Luther horse decided the issue as it caught scent of something to the south and east and guided the party in that way. "One way is as good as another I suppose," was the remark. And so they moved south leaving the fey, magical tapestry, the wizard and what knowledge he may have had behind them.

Had the wiard referred to Luther as a common ruffian, he would have been relieved of a few appediges as was the troll!! I am suprised, because in the younger days of Luther, I would have spared no effort in killing this robe wearing roach and his followers as well.
It was interesting meeting this fellow. Although this man was not evil, his order (the White Order) is what was used to form the Paths of Umbra preceding the coming of the Winter Dark.
Considering that we entered into this realm through the rings of Brass, using this knowledge and anything we can glean from the likes of our new wizard "friend" we may be able to put together many things about the Language of Creation and possible uses for our group. Especially thorugh Aristobulus. It will be key in trying to get Dolgan to aid us in this as well since it was his ancient ancestors who were the very masters of the languages' uses and creativity.

dispute
I dispute the assertion that the mage "got the better" of Aristobulus. I was holding back.
I did not hold back last night, letting loose a lightning bolt and 5 magic missile spells (total of 52 missiles) in one round.......

I have this problem too, I want to chronicle my epics, but I need a secretary to do it. I just have a good night of gaming and then I don't want to re-hash it the next day in written form...usually because I have a new scenario to write.
Like Sunday...when the PCs decided to go cross-continent...where I don't have much fleshed out yet. grumble.
