Hey Penny and Aergraith . . just got home from a full shift at work and cooked dinner. I was hoping to get a second wind and run the game tonight, but when I sat down with my monster books I ran out of gas.

So, very sorry to cancel the game tonight and sorry for the late notice.

I don't have to work next Sunday, so game on for sure.

Enjoy your evening!

Rhu. :)

No problemo, Gringnr. I had loads of hours this week and worked today, but ran out of gas. So yeah, we'll see you next week.

Thanks, BM.

Have you ever tried SKYPE and Maptools for gaming?

You are welcome to join the game if you are interested.

If not, I hope to get back to going to GaryCON in the near future and game with you.

Best,

Rhu. :)

It's been a few years, but I have gamed with Skype and Maptool. I have a semi-regular home game that plays on Friday nights. My availability to play outside of that is very limited. Work and family suck up my time without remorse.

I'd love to see you again at Gary Con. I don't think we've managed to hook up since Gary Con 1. This year will be my 4th Gary Con in a row. It's the best 4 days of the year. You need to get back there!

I'm really impressed with this campaign log. It is very much in line with the kind of game I want to run. I love the old West theme and the emphasis on villains as opposed to endless dungeon crawls. I'm gearing up to run a Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG campaign in the next few weeks. I'm going to be stealing some of your ideas.

Cool BM and thanks for the kind words ~ and plunder away.

One thing I liked about the old west setting was using abandoned mines instead of a dungeon. So many natural hazards and creatures can be utilized or turn the hazards into traps or have both. Fires, poison gas, cave-ins, earthquakes and exposions - all great stuff to be thrown at the PCs.

:P

Definitely! I really liked the random danger potential. A working mine is scary enough but anyone entering an abandoned one better use extreme caution. It did feel different from a dungeon crawl. A really great setting idea.

Valley of the Gnome Queen or “Assault on the Grassy Knoll”

The gnome emerald* has been stolen from the tree gnome, clan scepter by gnole halberdiers and archers. Adventurers are sought in the local pubs to “enter the dungeon” and retrieve the sacred emerald. These peaceful tree gnomes are ruled by the Queen who resides in the royal tree house in the center of the valley.

* A perfect emerald that has an internal image of a female gnome ready with child.

The Island of Dr. Crayloon

A sickness is sweeping the tinker gnome clan. Lethargy, listlessness and reproductive failure have set in.
The healers and sages are at a loss to find a cure or treat the disease. A visit to the tinker, town hall tower reveals that a mysterious witch doctor on Isle of Gnome might have the remedy necessary to bring wellness to the tinkers.
Adventurers are needed to find the doctor and convince him to provide a cure.

The remedy is deadly nightshade but must be mixed with certain ingredients to perfect the healing elixir.

Rumors about the island:

Cannibals
Gnome eating plants
Huge apes
Goblin savages
Active volcanos
Giant lizards

OK, just curious as to which mini adventure you would like to explore tomorrow night.

[Or, if you are tired of gnomes - I have a one off Yggsburgh South Pastures dungeon crawl I could run and you can either use your current character when he/she was 1st lvl or roll up a new one for the evening. I ran this some years ago during my CZ Upper Works game when Nate couldn't run his game.]

Session I - The Island of Dr. Crayloon

The adventurers:

Penny as:

Dame Penny-Whistle Scrubroot, the practical and wise gnome cleric who now has the bloodlust up for evil monsters threatening her beautiful planet Jorde!

Gringnr as:

Sir Gringnr, the mighty dwarf cleric with the love of GOLD

NPCs:

Sir Elderberry Scrubroot, the wildly bold and audacious gnome rogue
and
Iko Treeblight, gnome wizard whose magical power is ascending

The action:

After the adventurers return safely from Gnometown, they spend a few days at the abbey recuperating and resting while catching up on all the news from around Scandia.

They learn of the tinker gnome sickness from Laroo and Gaston, who ask the group if they would be willing to undertake a mission to the mainland to meet with the tinkers. The group accepts and arrangements are made for Eric the Red and his Vikings to travel to Normandia via longboats.

After visiting the tinker gnome clan, the party sails to the mysterious Island of Dr. Crayloon to see if they can locate him and a medical remedy for the disease that is plaguing their people.

About half way to the island, the longboat is attacked by a kraken. Two tentacles reach up and hold the boat, while others shoot around searching for food. Iko is found and grabbed. The adventurers begin an assault against the monster and the Vikings begin to throw harpoons.

A fierce battle commences with the party and Vikings wounding the kraken who releases Iko as he recedes into the depths of the ocean.

Then, as they approach the Island, they spot a school of locathah riding giant eels. The leader comes close to the boat and the adventurers talk with him for a bit. He can't tell them much about Dr. Crayloon, only that he is on the island and rarely leaves.

The Vikings dock and deliver the group onto the island and tell them they will come back every day and watch to see if they are ready to leave the island.

The group see and follow the leftside path inward towards the great mountain they saw when sailing in. They encounter and defeat a party of kobolds.

Moving on, the adventurers successfully cross a slat/rope bridge over a fast moving river.

End session.

Oh, almost forgot . . . the Gods ordered the release of the Kraken and the party survived!!

The adventurers fighting heroically + some well thrown harpoons by the Norsemen drove the monster away ~ but don't worry - "he'll be back"!

It's great to know that if the PCs survive the dangers of the Island of Dr. Crayloon, there is an intelligent, hungry and powerful sea monster watching and waiting just off the coast!!

Anyway, add 100 XP to the above total for 226 per player character!

Well done!

Session II - The Jungle is alive with activity which includes death!

The adventurers:

Gringnr as:

Sir Gringnr, the mighty dwarf cleric with the love of GOLD

Penny as:

Dame Penny-Whistle Scrubroot, the practical and wise gnome cleric who now has the bloodlust up for evil monsters threatening her beautiful planet Jorde!

Aergraith as:

Sir Elderberry Scrubroot, the wildly bold and audacious gnome rogue
and
Iko Treeblight, gnome wizard whose magical power is ascending

The action:

After resting in a cave during the monsoons, the party venture out onto the main trail up into the hills. They observe a very large flying creature passing above them heading west. They think that they may have spotted a rider on the back of the creature. They later learn that it was a pterodactyl.

Along the trail, the adventurers are ambushed by giant frogs who leap from out of the think jungle brush. One frog hits Iko with its tongue and he takes damage as the frog begins to pull him into his maw. Other frogs attack and a fierce battle ensues.

Using clever tactics, the party is able to kill the frogs. Penny-Whistle deftly butchers them saving the choicest fillets for the group.

They continue along the trail and decide to take the right fork, but quickly realize there are creatures ahead that look menacing. Lizardfolk are standing across the trail, with the leader in front.
Penny decides to offer them some frog legs, which they take and retreat without attacking.

The group decides to get back to the main trail and take the left fork. As they travel, they begin to notice small swift creatures moving in the brush on either side of them. Finally, a few step out ahead of them and the party sees native pygmy gnomes painted and looking like warriors, but they do not threaten.

The leader of the pygmies steps forward and asks them why are they here on the island. The adventurers tell him that they are looking for Dr. Crayloon.

The leader introduces himself as Glugnut and says he can show you where Dr. Crayloon lives, but first all must come and meet the pygmy gnome chief.

After meeting with the chief and smoking a piece pipe, Glugnut and a few warriors lead the adventurers into the jungle to find Crayloon's residence. As they get close to the mountain, the pygmies are attacked by lizardmen with blowgun and several are killed. The party moves in to attack the lizardmen and eventually kill them all. Three more frogs and encountered and killed.

Glugnut then leads them to the foot of the mountain where he shows them a safe cave and the party rests up for the night.

End session.
