[M&T] Where are the demons, devils?

Post by joela »

Finally received the Monsters & Treasure book. As I was browsing, noted no entries on demons and devils. Reason for admission? I know they're in the SRD.

Thanks!

Because one of these days they are going to do a book dedicated to them. In the mean time there are some in Of Gods and Monsters and I think M&T of Airhde has some. OR at least creatures that can be called such.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

If you don't mind reimaginings as opposed to straight conversions, though, I've done writeups of most of the SRD Fiends in the last few months, which you're more than free to use. :)

I'm also planning on getting them all together into a PDF one of these days.

Your best bet right now is to either PM me with e-mail for the Word file with them collected, or to run a search under my name. I'll try and get a nice shiny PDF up as soon as possible, though.

Clavis123 has posted up an awesome take on the mythology and specifics of demons and devils on here, if you search his posts you will find them.

I have yoinked them for my own upcoming campaign.

I am going to second that strongly, especially if you like a more folkloric flavour.

Yeah my upcoming campaign is set in an alternate, but familiar earth in 800 AD so his versions based off "real world" old religious and pagan folklore fit to a T.

I know that the original title of Of Gods and Monsters was supposed to be God & Demons:
C&C Player's Handbook, 4th printing, page 108 wrote:A demon's special abilities are determined by the Castle Keeper or are indicated in the demon's entry in Gods & Monsters.
I beleive that these two books are one and the same. I speculate that shortly after the project got handed to Jim Ward, it changed into a "Deities and Demigods" like work (not a bad or good thing...just my speculation). Unfortunately, it left us without demons and devils, something I would very much like to see.

I don't think TLG ever wanted to be tied down too closely with their interpretations of demons/devils. At one point they were going to be in their own book, but that was many, many moons ago. The M&T of Airhde gives lots of good examples on how TLG envisions their big, baddies. But those demons/devils are setting specific (though they don't have to be), and are really TOUGH!

The TLG MB posters KaiserKris and Clavis have done awesome work on this front, presenting their interpretations on demons, devils and angels.

First, let me recommend KaiserKris' excellent re-imaginings of the SRD Devils and Demons. I am particularly fond of his version of the Nalfeshnee (old Type IV), and his complete reworking of Demogorgon.

As previously stated by other posters, my own work on the topic has been primarily translating the real-world lore into a game-usable format. Here are some links to the Devils:

With The Demons, I've only really done the Possessor Demon, and the various forms of Demonically-possessed people, animals, and objects. As previously stated, KaiserKris has posted more writeups for Demons. Here are my Links:
