Silicon Dragon

NO. ENCOUNTERED: 1-2
SIZE: Special (see below)
HD: Special * (see below)
MOVE: 30 ft., 175 ft. (fly)
AC: Special (see below)
ATTACKS: 2 Claw (1d4), Tail (1d6), Bite (2d6)
SPECIAL: Breath Weapon, Spell-Like Abilities, Resistance to Electricity, Resistance to Acid
SAVES: M, P
INT: See table
ALIGNMENT: Lawful Neutral
TYPE: Dragon
TREASURE: See table (hoard)
XP: Special (see page 6 of Monsters & Treasures)

Dragon Magic: All silicon dragons automatically have the ability to use magic as if they were wizards of half their hit dice. A silicon dragon that successfully gains full dragon magic according to "Dragons - Languages and Magic" is equivalent to a wizard of the same hit dice.

Combat: Silicon dragons will only participate in defensive actions. When they or their allies are directly threatened, however, they spare no effort in repelling the invaders. Today, it is rare for a silicon dragon to even live on the world rather than some other plane or the Sun, but those who do will have a very narrow view of what they consider to be their territory.

Other Spell-like Abilities:

Breath Weapon: A silicon dragon's breath weapon causes living and metallic matter to slowly grow metallic wiring all throughout the body and eventually become enslaved to the dragon. Any creature in the area of effect suffers 1d4 points of damage for every hit die the dragon possesses. A successful dexterity save reduces this damage by half.

In addition, living and metallic creatures must make a constitution saving throw or become infected with a "disease" that decreases intelligence and wisdom by one point per round, curable through cure disease, a paladin's innate ability to remove disease and the like. Once a creature's intelligence and wisdom both reach zero, the creature essentially becomes a construct that must obey the silicon dragon's every thought. Once a creature has been fully infected in this manner, removal of the "disease" will force the creature to make a saving throw for each of its attributes in order to regain bodily function quickly. Otherwise, the attributes will recover at a rate of one point per year.

Other Signs of the Disease:
- Blood vessels in the eyes and mouth may look like shiny reflective silver
- Lack of inflection or variation in speech
- Inability to handle sarcasm or imagination
- Being a harsh bureaucrat just for the sake of it

URANIUM DRAGON

NO. ENCOUNTERD: 1-100

((This one was written for my custom setting, in which Metallic and Colored Dragons warred against each other, devastating the world))

The Uranium Dragons were the undisputed leaders and front-line soldiers of the Metallic Faction during the Dragon Reckoning.

If an individual uranium dragon was not frightening enough, they typically travel in swarms of up to one hundred. This practice was originally developed in order to ensure that at least one of them would survive to deliver the powerful breath weapon, and has since become a critical part of uranium dragon culture.

Even though the populations of dragons today are in general limited by the Dragon Limitation Treaties, uranium dragons are explicitly given a separate (and much lower) quota in each of the treaties. In addition, there are extreme measures which must be undertaken if uranium dragons exceed their quota, far harsher than the penalties specified for the other breeds of dragon.

Combat: Uranium dragons are explicitly banned from using their breath weapons by the Dragon Limitation Treaties. During the Dragon Reckoning, however, the typical style of uranium dragon combat was to travel in swarms of hundreds and completely eradicate an enemy site from the surface of the world. Secondary objectives included and were not limited to: scouring everything within a thousand-mile radius, drying up a whole river or lake, blasting open a hardened mountain fortress and complete genocide of an enemy species.

Today, uranium dragons try to avoid combat at all costs. If they think their lairs are threatened, they will prefer to simply pack up the whole hoard and go somewhere else.

Breath Weapon: A uranium dragon's breath weapon is a thick powdery dust that causes severe damage to anything that is not made of lead or thicker. It also imparts intense, flameless heat which may be visible in low-light conditions. This causes 1d12 points of damage for each hit die of the dragon. A successful dexterity save reduces this damage by half, representing a creature's ability to close its eyes and cover its mouth when the breath comes. Each creature that takes damage from the breath must also make a constitution saving throw or develop a terminal disease within the next year. Even after a year, there is still a high risk of complications such as losing hair, coughing up blood, having children with birth defects, and oftentimes, becoming completely sterile.
