Myths Reborn: Creatures from the Windswept World
A tentative gaggle of critters and a murder of monsters... with a change in stat layout and a little focus on areas not often found in "monster books," yet intended for "any world" and inspired, in most part, by real myths, I thought I'd show the expected contents:

Re: Myths Reborn: Creatures from the Windswept World
Simple question for those who care...
Do you want treasure included, or just monsters?

Re: Myths Reborn: Creatures from the Windswept World
Now, admittedly, this is a powerful item (and in my world, only two are known to exist, each with different powers), so it may not be the best "example" of the types of things that will be included, but since you asked for it, I thought I might as well provide something...
Archer’s Handharp: Constructed of fine wood and enchanted with a potent dweomer, the archer’s handharp is a boon to the adventuring sort, having several abilities at its disposal much like a traditional wizardly staff. When found, the handharp will have between 5 and 10 charges, capable of being recharged to a maximum of 25. Certain features require a higher expenditure of stored power – all require an understanding of music and ample dexterity (suggested a minimum of 14) to perform. When drained fully, the handharp retains its status as a musical instrument. As the adjudicator, you may decide to assign specific activations to the strings, or combinations of notes, if desired for a more complex item. An archer’s handharp does not reveal any of its powers to the user though many a bard can identify the item on sight for they are highly regarded and sought. The functions of the handharp and their number of charges are as follow – Release arrow +1: 1 charge; if the user expends 3 charges, the effect is as a +2 arrow; for 5, as a +3. Magic Missile as 7th level caster: 5 charges; for 9 charges, as 9th level; for 11 charges, as 11th level. Ray of Enfeeblement as 3rd level caster: 3 charges. Lightning Bolt as 5th level caster: 5 charges; 7th level ability for 9 charges; 15 charges for 11th level effect. Charm Person or Mammal as 1st level caster: 1 charge; intelligent creatures are allowed a save at +2. Slumber: 5 charges – affects as sleep except normal resistance does not apply and individual HD limit increased to 6. Cacophony: 7 charges – affects as cause deafness in 20’ radius with duration of 6 turns. Summoning: 5 charges for 1st level summon spell effect; double charge costs for each spell level increase to a maximum of 20 charges. Fly as 5th level caster: 10 charges. Sound Burst: 5 charges – deals 1d8 damage to all within 15 feet who then must save or be stunned for 1 round. Shatter as 10th level caster: 15 charges. Pyrotechnics as 3rd level caster: 3 charges. Blessing: 9 charges; allies within 20 feet receive benefits of bless and prayer for 3 rounds. Spiritual Weapons: 15 charges; up to 3 unattended weapons within 15 feet are granted the dancing property for 4 rounds.

Re: Myths Reborn: Creatures from the Windswept World
Nice !
Thanks for sharing. As you know I prefer unique items to standard +1-5 items, so this is right up my alley!
If you don't mind sharing, what is the back story for it?

Re: Myths Reborn: Creatures from the Windswept World
I'll give you some basics of the background behind it, but I was trying to keep this all somewhat generic without too much of "my way" thrown into it.
At one point in the history of Windswept, there were other handharps, each designed to replicate a facet of the holy icon of Aré the Elucidated, Mistress of Music. However, as is normal for those with power, a struggle broke out over who was more righteous and 'true' and it was in this battle that most of the harps were destroyed, unstrung, or simply lost. It was a scant few centuries ago that one was uncovered by Torbid Archer of the Academy of Notes and used to great effect in his travels and battles against the cult known as the Cloister of the Sanctity to the Dark. These acts inspired many imitators and spread the word of the handharp's power, becoming a sort of rallying marker for the faithful of Aré (who have since sequestered the real one to protect it.) In the years since then, another handharp has been found, this one with seemingly different abilities, but it was stolen and its fate unknown. Now, what people consider to be 'archer's handharp' is a facsimile, produced at the Academy's request.
