Seeing how the CK will have the final say as to what is and is not used, I think the CKG is a fitting name for the book.

I know this is probably going to sound like heresy, but is there a point based skill system in the CCG? An alternate to the Siege system?

Thx

Joe

Heresy, sacrilege, blasphemy...anybody else have applicable adjectives?
Why would you want to do such a thing? That's like putting ketchup on a filet.

Seriously, though, you can move that stuff into your game fairly easily, and contrary to what another publisher might tell you, you don't need officially published rules to do it. You can just do it, and do it however you want. That's the beauty of the game.

There will be three different skill systems offered up as suggested approaches to using skills. I don't think any of them are point based however, though I haven't looked these over very much. That is Davis' area of expertise.

We have made wonderful progress on this book. I still have a good feeling that it will make Gencon.

Does this refer to the Adjuncts (as Crusader 14 mentions these are one of 3 approaches to 'skills' and 'traits'), or is there a further 'skills' section in the CKG?

Throughout the CKG we give options for expansionary rules. Several choices on multi-class with some direction given on how to do it yourself. One of the methods is the role playing method, the others are light and heavy rules approaches. The adjuncts is the heavy rules approach to skills, there is a lighter approach and then a third option that gives directions and examples on how to role play skills. The hope is you can take away from it what you would like or combine the three or use one or none.

Is the CKG going to have any new spells in it?

Why would the CKG need new spells? The Castle Keeper can make whatever effects he wants. Now, what might have been useful is a "how to create spells" and an example of that... but, I will doing such in my forthcoming Lexicon of the Weird, so I am glad it is not in the CKG (that I know of.)

I have to agree with Serl, there. Too many spells can lead to homogeneity, but a selcet number of "basic" spells and the incentive to research your own new ones makes for a unique campaign, an extra level of interest and, I find, happier wizard players.

I give 'em XPs for successfully researching and developing new spells. It's an excuse I have for the high-level wizards dotted about the campaign who never went for the adventuiring life.

I agree with the others about more spells. I don't know if I'd say homogeneity, as I feel there could be more added with unique effects. But unique effects don't mean their worth squat, however - it doesn't mean thy'll be as useful as ones already in print. I still remember not using many spells from the 1st Edition Unearthed Arcana because the ones in the PHB were more than sufficient...unless of course this is the type of scenario the other fellows were referring to.

+1, but if it's going to be released at GenCon, I'll probably pick it up then.

Due to delays in other titles the CKG has missed its intended Gencon release. The book will be at the printer by then and open for pre-orders, but due to the time it takes to actually print the book there is almost no way it will make the show. We will have a mock up there and be taking pre-orders. We may have a perfect bound edition there as well.

Sorry about the delay.

Steve

Thanks for the update, Steve. I can wait, if it means a great product (and I'm sure it will be). Might try to get one of those perfect bounds if they're at GenCon.

It's a shame that this won't be GenCon release, but, just like the PH, I'd rather TLG get things "just right" rather than rush things to press. We'll wait for it, Steve. Keep chugging along.

If the Cruasder #19 article is any indication, I think the CKG is going to be great. For sure, take a few more months to polish up the rest of the ideas in that book to make them as good as the Crusader article is. Good stuff.

Books 1 and 2 are finished and I will show case the roughs at Troll con. Everyone is patiently waiting for me to get into book 3 (the last book) and see what remains to be done...

Of course Troll Con, PH, Gods and Tainted Lands have all walled up against my time clock.

Things are looking good though, very good.

Thanks,

Steve

I was really hoping to get my hands on the CKG at GenCon! That's okay though, I already have too many products I want to buy at Gencon as it is. Still, here's hoping a softcover CKG appears.
