yep, the same trolls. i've met them and they're very nice people, but aggravating when it comes to the CKG (which btw should include an "official", but optional skill system alternative to the siege engine).

It does not have an optional skill system that replaces the Siege Engine. It has skills that you can build into your characters and uses the Siege Engine.

Thanks,

Steve

Peter has laid out through chapter 9 and is including art now.

Final editing is through chapter 5, with 6 and 7 going to the look over today (the 1st of December).

YES! *Raises Mug of Brew with a cheer* This is pure awesome.

I do not mean to Brabble but I feel the following needs to be asked and responded to in a Freck manner.

It does still have the FULL body cavity search tables that do NOT use the Siege Engine though right?

Because if you guys have once again Corrade detailed well thought out microrules and chucked them out the window so that you can place your I'll concieved Siege Engine slap and past rules on then I frankly Kench at your I'll convieved attempt.

I'm sure one of your crazed Hoddypeaks will come along soon and while foaming at the mouth tell me once again how wonderful that the rules lite Siege Engine is and how well it works but im not buying it!

For my Deliciate,I insist that you throw it out or at least add other options so that those of us who dislike such Jargogled rules have options.

I expect to read your Yemeles counterblast.

I am curious as to how the new skill options integrate the Siege Mechanic...it makes me think of the StarSiege skill bundles a little bit.

I hope this makes it in time for Christmas, but I think January is a little more realistic. At any rate, it will be a good GenCon next summer at the TLG booth, that's for sure.

Okay, I have to ask - why would you want another skill system that doesn't use the Siege Engine? Why play C&C if you aren't going to use the Siege Engine?

My point (and I guess my opinion) is this: The Siege Engine is a universal mechanic for C&C and not a class skill system. Take out the Siege Engine and you no longer have Castles & Crusades. That's why I have difficulty understanding why someone would want an optional skill system that isn't based on the Siege Engine. It would be like going to steak place and ordering fish.

I'm glad it isn't just me having a problem fathoming this. If you're going to embrace a system, then change that system to resemble the one you just left...it just doesn't make a lot of sense.

I agree, personally I like C&C because there is no "skill system", just seige checks. But if it were to have one, it seems to go against the grain of the game to add extra rules/mechanics when you have the Seige, already bound into so many other aspects of the game , basically perfect for flexing into a skill system for the game already.

Devil's advocate:

Use siege for attacks and stuff, turning undead, everythihng but skills, then a skill system for skills.

not unheard of to have muiltiple systems in a game, look at 2ed. remember this: Oh! I rolled a 20! sweet! no, you wanted to roll LOW on that....

(which was sort of the reason d20 system was made)

Also, the old-skool rule = do what you want with the game, if your houserules have differnet skill rules, go nuts.

((I actually agree with John, but am just playing devil's advocate. I think the siege engine is killer diller b/c you don't need anything else, really))

My birthday is in March, so if it's available by then, I'll be happy.

I don't think we have to worry about them rushing the project. We have two editors on it, so it should be pretty darn clean. And from what Steve tweeted today, it may well wrap up this week. By that I think he just means editing. I would imagine Pete will still be laying it out all next week at least, then another week to go over the final layout and make last minute fixes before going to press. I will stick with my estimate of a January release, though it would be great to see it time for Christmas. I just don't see it in the cards though.

Skill System:

Write down three things your character is capable of doing which are not covered by another class or race. If you opt to write down things which are covered by a race or class, you will receive a penalty (-3) when attempting to use it as a means to "preserve" the archetypes. Skills do not replace class; they simply give additional abilities to the character.

Skills do not care about Prime or attributes. They improve by +1 for 30,000 XP earned, as level is also irrelevant -- only the gaining of actual experience in their use matters. If one does not agree that 360k is enough (at this point, a +12 would be gained, guaranteeing success), double the XP requirement each improvement.

When you attempt to use a skill, you roll 1d12. If the roll is 9 or higher, you succeed. It is possible to "specialize" in a skill, reducing the needed roll to a 7 (effectively a +2 on all skill rolls.)

Steve mentioned on the Facetube Youtwit Book that he anticipates the CKG being ready and shipped for pre-order purchases by December 25, which could mean it also means that there is a hope that some will actually have theirs bundled by elfs and delivered by a fat man in a lobster suit.
