Random treasure generator

Post by nwelte1 »

I made a random treasure generator in excel that calculates all treasure rolls for 1 creature. It even rolls randomly for items that have different tiers of power (i.e. Ring of Wizardry), and calculates the GP and EXp value of all items. It also rolls random of the CK choice selections to eliminate the need to think about it.... (thinking is bad). In other words an extraordinary lance is a Expert Heavy Lance with bonus to hit..... It also produces two lists for cut and paste purposes. One list is for the GM detailing all the info such as the special powers of the item and the other list for players that gives the base item i.e. ring and no other information.

All data in the sheet is M&T based, with some minor modifications to account for the misvaluing of SR, ability to roll for Special armors on table 4.4B, and the addition of some values for items that had different tiers of power but no exp/gp values for the items....i.e. bags of holding, Belt of Giant Str., Figurines of power, and etc.

If anyone is interested, I would be interesting in sharing it for people to test and comment on. I lack the patience to proof it myself so some errors are likely, but hopefully few. All the test rolls I did came up error free. But with thousands of rolls occurring behind the scenes, how can I possible check each possible roll combination for errors.....

To be added will be random spell generation for scrolls and the ability to name a monster and have the sheet auto calculate treasure based on that monsters Treasure Type. Right now you have to select the treasure type.

PM me if interested.

Once I polish it, I will likely post it at Dragonsfoot or anywhere else people recommend.

Please let us know when you post it to DF...unless you already did! Sounds intriguing!

Nate, the generator looks great and just playing with it a for a few minutes really shows the usefulless of the program. I know I'll be using it when I start CKing again.

While I have no personal use for such a thing (and gave up writing one in QuickBasic -- I've forgotten way too much), its cool to see it anyway. Hopefully others will find it a helpful tool.

It is. If you roll treasures by the book, you want this. If you don't have Excel DL openoffice, it seems to be working just fine converted to it.

Glad you like it. I am already adding features and will likely have an updated version next week.

I'm working on my own, too, which will be a web app. I am nearly done but I am at a point where I have to make decisions about how different things are determined (how far back to backtrack when deciding if something is over the xp allowance, how to determine leaf-node options, like ring of protection bonus, plus the gazillion options for things like Ioun Stones, Figurines, etc.., the Misc items are a pain). When you try to convert those charts to code you realize how many ranges and exceptions exist, how many asterisks you bump into.

I guess I'll just decide what I have to and publish the source in case anyone thinks it's fishy. I am sure CKs without enough time to generate their own treasure have loads of time to read source code :).
