(C&C) I1 Into the Unknown (NOW AVAILABLE)

Post by Troll Lord »

I2 Into the Unknown: Vakhund

Saddle Stitched, $8.95, 24 pages

TLG 8090, ISBN 1-931275-59-9

Expanded and Revised for the Castles & Crusades Role Playing Game.

Vakhund: Into the Unknown originally appeared as a Sword & Sorcery (TLG's first RPG) role playing game adventure module. It was revised for the d20 system, but that necessitated cutting a bit of the heart and soul out of the Tower of the Dog . . . but the Davis has been unleashed and brought back much of his original material . . . including the full, uncensored Preparation House.

"No introductions are necessary for I know well who you are my intrepid adventurer.

"A weary traveler indeed. Have a seat my friend before you enter the Graffenvold and traverse its byways. Have you come here to rest, to leave the muddy tracks and sharp edges of the world behind? Is that it my fine fellow? Or have you come to beat down the lords of this Land and submit them to your will? Which is it fellow, the easy or the hard road you are after?

"I fear you have gone beyond yourself, and here in Inzae your mistake may be your doom. For beyond yonder door is a fearful world clinging desperately to life. Its denizens struggle against a vast array of malignant forces that seek to drag them deeper into the pits of the Maelstrom. And even here, in this backwater called the Reintier, you will find no respite from this meaningless and overwhelming struggle. So take heed traveler, take heed as you enter the Graffenvold, it will do you well to remember that this is a deadly world and lest you take care, you will be engulfed in its dying spasms."

Travel south in the goblin kingdoms is always frought with danger. So many will go only so far as the Baron's outpost, The Vakhund, The Watchdog Tower, and reside there in safety while merchants and others fare their way down the road. But what happens when the Vakhund is attacked by goblins, orcs and bandits? A princess is kidnapped, and only a dangerous trip into the dark, infested goblin kingdoms will reveal the answer.

A Castles & Crusades adventure intended for 4-8 characters of levels 1-2, Vakhund: Into the Unknown marks Part 1 in the thrilling Death on the Treklant Trilogy and introduces the grimly realistic World of Inzae. Those brave enough to enter her Maelstrom and become heroes shall linger long in the halls of valor and memory.

OK, I liked the d20 one, as strange as it was, so with old material added back in I may have a "favorite" C&C module on its way.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

Apparently the Preperation House was edited but the Charnal House was cut entirely. So Davis is bringing all that back to the table. I love Vakhund . . . Tower of the Dog . . . as it was one of the best advents that Davis ran us through. Of course, keeping to form, my character was killed.

When is the print version being released?

I really liked the D20 version, I can't wait for the full C&C module to be released.

I am intrigued by this module, but the only review I found was rather negative, and for the very 1st version of the adventure.

Can anyone either direct me to a few reviews, or synopsis... or sell me on it from their own point of view?

It sounds like a good jumping off point, but why would I use this, instead of the Rising Knight or Blacktooth Ridge?

I have the D20 version, and I think the selling point is that this series takes place in the grittier, grimmer world of Inzae. Although, to be quite honest I found nothing in the adventure to distinguish it from, say, Rising Knight. The two have exactly the same sort of feel, if you ask me.

Nonetheless, it's a great module and well worth picking up, as are the other two in the trilogy.

Heh, I forgot I had the PDF, but I do very much like the atmosphere of Inzae - dark and gritty as Ink mentioned.

One thing I thought was that the Rising Knight might appeal more to newer or younger gamers as are the one in my group. I think they'd be fine with Vaklund now, but for an intro module, I'm leaning towards RN.

I don't see a big reason to use Vakhund over RN or AoBR, all are high quality adventures. The only big difference is the setting Inzae, a real grim and gritty place. IMHO you can't have too many good adventures, even if I don't have a use for it right now, I'm sure one day it will come in handy.

I have the d20 version of this mod. I guess I will have to drop some coin and get the revised C&C version.

I am thinking this can be used once my group completes the A series and perhaps the U series as well. They can retire those characters and roll up new ones to begin the adventures in Inzae.

!@#$ Steve!

I just ordered the pre D20 version from Noble Knight; and now this one finally comes out!
Oh well, guess I'll have to get two.
BTW,

Porkuslime, could you give a link to the review of the pre D20 version? Thanks!

LOL ... I already had this one as well as all the other d20 Erde modules and sourcebooks. I couldn't pass them up... plus the Trolls had (maybe still has) them at really good prices. Grab them while you can!

There's more in the C&C version. I have all three versions myself. Its neat comparing the evolution of the book.

Hello everyone. I just picked up this module and it has some neat stuff. Does anyone know where the web enhancement pdf is located? I looked in the resources section but couldn't find it.

It's probably a holdover from the d20 printing or, it is coming with the revamp of the website. That's one thing I hope TLG can do in the future is get more web goodies up.
