A useful study

Post by gideon_thorne »

Now, whether you like Larry Elmore's work or not, this he posted on his website has to be one of the most all around useful examples of a progression piece I've seen.
http://www.larryelmore.com/painting_process.htm

Worth studying.

I agree! Definitive Larry Elmore progressive Art Tutorial.

I love watching how he progresses with his work, very informative.

So would you say that pictoral would help someone with their shading techniques?

Hope Glad spots this!

Well I always find its rewarding watching my artistic peers at work,

a little insight into their form and work flow definately helps,

I even love seeing their colour mixing pallet as they go,

but then I'm an art geek!
In fact I actually made a personal PDF of this,

in case he pulls it from his site in the future.

Good idea!

I guess you haven't been told what happened at Con on the Cob between Glad and Elmore, it is a bit of an inside joke.

Perhaps we should point the squire in this direction.

Oh! I have been informed already, believe me. I'm sure Larry liked Glad's

rendering of him. Everyone seems to have good interaction with Larry at C&C. I'm going myself this year!

You lot should ask my dad and Larry both what the penalty is for Larry calling my dad an Irishman (He's from Yorkshire)

The good thing is its Art and Beer related! The gaming comes a lowly third!

So it would definately suit Jim and other RPG Artists who do not necessarily play the game....and like beer and fun!
Maybe we can get Jim invited as a guest artist? Or he could attend incognito

its entirely up to him!

Just in case it's needed, I posted in the Convention Forum information about 2010's Con-on-the-Cob. If you're thinking about coming out to the con, please post a tidbit or two down there so that others who do not read this thread might get excited to come out too!

I love Larry....but he's a shading nazi. (That tutorial is a nice one, though.)

I am back from Cancun, liver full of Swiss cheese holes and due to sunblock SPF 30, I'm a shade or two darker, minus the peeling.

If Jim and John can make it, now that Andy's going to be there, this will be a CotC for the ages. Rigon and Treebore will have to get a room at the actual Con hotel this year so that the big party will have that many more lushes tearing the place apart.

*If Larry's there again and he decides to make an example of my art, I'm going to re-draw him in a much more vulnerable position involving him in a "downward dog" yoga position, a jar of habenero peppers and an angry Umber Hulk.
