Eamonvale/Blacktooth Ridge Campaign
Rising Knight Part 2 (4-9-07)
Traveling on up the old Imperial road, the part eventually comes upon an ancient statue ot the Horned God, standing by the roadside, its arm extends to the east, and a faint trail can be seen by the party. Following the trail for about 10 miles the party finally comes upon the ruins of an ancient temple, dedicated to Unklar.
The party follows the trail into the heart of the ruins, to some stairs leading down into what once was the basement and sub-levels of the temple. From here the Brus (paladin) takes the lead. As they descend down some stairs, a tangible feeling of evil can be felt by the paladin.
The party takes four goblin guards by surprise and easily slay the creatures. A statue of Unklar stands in the middle of the room, with a golden sacrifical bowl before it, bloodstains mark the bowl. As the party exits the room the statue emits a loud, mournful cry. Fearing they will be discoverd the party braces for an onslaught, but nothing comes to investigate.
The party managed to explore the entire level, easily overcoming the small and scattered groups of goblins and kobolds. The only true tests was a large wolf-spider that attacked from a empty well shaft, and a large gnoll(the goblins with the gnoll all fell to a sleep spell supplied by Maya)but for the most part the party had thier way in the upper level. (They did stumble across a large chamber that served as a kennel for 6 wolf mounts, but fourtunatly the beasts where caged, and the party kept them quiet by feeding them from some butchered animals that also occupied the room.
With the level cleared and none the worse for wear, the party descends down some stairs, leading deeper under into the ground.

1.1 Spider Silk and Elven Legends (11-13-06)
The Goodhill sisters, Libby and Abby, at the request of their mother, set out from Dun Eamon for the town of Melford, 3 days travel to the east. Their destination is a spider farm run by Ulayah Reyn, a human merchant who harvests spider silk. Once there they are to arrange for her annual shipment.
Having never made the journey before they take along two of Abby's friends, the cleric, Octaveous Lowen and Lorak Lundenburg a archer. After a long days march, the four arrive at the trading post/Inn known as Garlands Fork.
The party finds sees two farmhouses that look like they are only partially built and a smithy also under construction. All three look like all work has been stopped, and the normally (or so they hear) active inn is almost deserted. The only two people around is the elderly innkeeper, Barcus Garland, and a savage looking warrior with an obvious bit of orc-blood.
Not intimidated by the brutes looks, Abby procudes to pester him with a ton of questions, which he answers with snarls and grunts. She does learn that his name is Gore, and he is seeking to make his way in the world as an adventurer. The group invites themselves to join the 1/2 orc and Barcus brings food and drink for all.
While they eat the group questions Barcus as to the deserted nature of his trading post and the abandoned buildings. Barcus explains that his inn has recently been terrorized by a beast of elvin legend, Garthulga. A great beast with spiked skeletal features with a ghostly glow and mournful, souless crys. Garthulga had scared all the settlers off (and ruined Barcus's plan of expanding his inn into a small town.) The beast had also broken into into the pen that held his pet pig Tibby, leaving no trace of his beloved porker.
Just then three humans, warrior looking types, enter the inn and notice the party and Barcus. The three, obviously brothers, demand to know the parties business with Barcus, claiming that they were hired by the old man to rid the area of Garthulga. The three continue to intimidate the old man until the party steps forward, some threats are exchanged and the brothers leave.
Barcus explains that the three, the ? brothers, did offer to rid him of Garthulga, for 1000 gold! Far more than he could afford. He then humbly asks the party to help rid him of the beast, in exchange for a years free room and board.
Right away the party suspected the three brothers were involved and that there was no Garthulga. So hiding in various places outside the inn the party waited. Around midnight they heard the mournful crys and saw a ghostly creature, making it way towards the inn. The creature was animal-like in appearence, walking on all fours, about 9-10 feet long and a skeletal face. large spikes protruded from the beast, and it was glowing with an otherworldy light.
Shocked that the beast was real the party stayed hidden, while the creature poked around the inns doors, releasing an occasional spine tingling squeal. After a few minutes Garthulga wandered south back into the forest. The party followed at a safe distance, easily tracking the glowing beast. About a mile into the woods the trail ended in a dense thorny thicket, a well worn path led into the heart of the thicket.
Its decided that Libby will scout ahead, but then they hear a great commotion and see Garthulga charge down the trail and into thier midst. Libby gets a quick jab in with her dagger, then Garthulga take a few charge attacks, missing. Lorak sinks a arrow deep into the beasts side, and Abby and Octaveous add a few good whacks and Garthulga squeals swine-like and runs down the trail towards the inn.
During and after the battle the party begins to suspect the true nature of Garthulga, some of the ghostly glow, now coats their weapons, the some of its spines are now scattered about the ground, and appear to be nothing more than sticks. The party follows Garthulga towards the inn, finding more glowing sticks. Arriving at the inn, the party finds Garthulga wallowing in the pig pen, the party quickly realizes that Garthulga is nothing more than a large hog, made up. Barcus the innkeeper rushes out of the inn, overjoyed that his pet pig Tibby has been returned (mostly unharmed.)
Returning to the thicket, the party enters and follows a well worn path to the thickets center. Here they find the three brothers beating a quick retreat into various paths leading from their makeshift camp. Gore and Octaveous chase one brother down his chosen path, only to find a nasty spiked pit trap. (Gore found this the hard way ). After he got out of the pit, the two decided that they were no longer interested in giving chase.
HA! You're not fooling anyone! You got that from a Dungeon Adventure! Not that there's anything wrong with that.
True, it was a nice little module, and the inn works well as a site for a future DCC I want to run. About 99% of my stuff comes from somewhere else, my talent is in working it all together. Which makes C&C even better for me I can use everything from BD&D to 3.5, most on the fly.
The only real change I made was making the brothers human rather than halflings. The brothers were to become reoccuring villians, but since my party went and got themselves all killed, they may just become a special encounter on my random encounter charts.

That's OK, remember when it's one source you are ripping off from it's plagarism, when it's many it's research.
Rising Knight Part 3 (4-23-07)
Well things did not quite go as expected for the group as they continued thier exploration of the ruined temple of Baleon Nakt. Now on the lower level, the party comes to an archway engraved with strange runes. Without fear Brus steps through the archway, followed by Boris. (Having them save did make them a bit nervous. The evil of the temple is so great here that all the characters, can feel it.
The room beyond the arch seems to be an old waiting room with a few chairs and couches. Resting on a table is a large bell, (which Boris begins to ring, many times ) The rest of the party passes the archway, and the, a pain shoots through Tasha as she does, but the dwarf continues on.
The party exits the room to the hallway beyond. ignoring a door to the east, they follow the hallway orth to another door. As usual, Brus takes the lead, and flings the door open only to be pincushioned by seven very prepared kobolds, who let fly with thier crossbows. Two hit, almost dropping the paladin. The rest of the party charges in, with Tasha stopping to heal the paladin.
A wild melee erupts with the kobolds and 4 large spiders doing vast amounts of damage to the party. (what I thought would be a very minor encounter nearly wiped out the party, forcing them to use most of thier healing, both spells and potions, and still most of them where down 25-50% of max).
After dispatching the pesky kobolds, the party continues north where the hallway T's, east towards a door and west where it turns back to the south. Behind the door to the east. they find a well furnished bed chamber, with several weapons, all in good condition (but no magic). They also find a locked chest but no key. They then backtrack to the waiting area and the door they bypassed there.
Upon entering this chamber they find the walls are covered with prayers to the horned god, but little else. After a few moments the writings begin to shift and a ghoul emerges from the solid stone wall. A quick fight erupts ending quickly with the ghoul downs, and disolving into a mist, and the 1/2 elf, Maya, paralyzed. While they wait for the ghouls touch to wear off, Boris and Tasha discover a secret door in the south wall. Behind the wall they follow a short hallway to an old scriptorium. after a bit of searching they find a hidden hidey-hole in the wall. Reaching back into the hole, Tasha is shocked when a large blade slams into her shoulder, but relieved that her armor absorbed most of the damage (this had the potential to remove the arm completly but luckily for the dwarf it did little damage).
Meanwhile back it the other room the writing begin to shift once again, and another ghoul emerges from the wall. Calling for thier comrades, Stick and Brus rush to attack. Maya has yet to recover from the first ghouls touch. Brus quick falls victem to the ghouls paralysis, and just as the two dwarves arrive back in the room, Stick aslo fails a save and is paralyzed. Soon, Tasha is also paralyzed (This really built the tension up), in the end Boris was able to defeat the ghoul and get his paralyzed compainions to saftey. Once the paralysis had worn off, the party uses the last of its healing and decides to retreat outside to rest.

Rising Knight Part 3 (continued) (4-23-07)
Once outside the party decides to get as far away as possible. After traveling a some distance the party hears the howling of wolves from behind them. Maya climbs a tree, and using her elven site looks back towards the temple. She quickly informs the party that the temple appears to be emptying, over a score of goblins led by several gnolls and supported by half a dozen wolves had picked up the party's trail and the chase was on.
The chase lasted almost the entire night, with the goblins unable to overtake the party, but the party also unable to pull away from the mob of humanoids. As dawn approached the party once again sees a bluish glow to the east. (Maya believes this to be the location of an ancient elven tower, Kuthrad Ondal.) Knowing they cannot keep running, and that they are overmatched, the party cuts off the ancient roadway hoping to find some type of defensable position at the tower.
Before they could reach the tower they are overtaken by the wolves. (who were sent ahead by the goblins) A quick but brutal battle ensued, with the party taking still more wounds, but in the end they stood victorious. (Barely standing, out of healing, out of spells, but victorious.)
Again they set off towards the tower, and then from behind the sound of elven battle horns reach thier ears. Stumbling onto the tower they find it in near rune. Never the less they stumble inside only to be confronted by a massive winged lion-like creature, who introduces itself as Nafatel (a lammasu). Nafatel questions them as to thier business, and then assures them that they may rest in saftey at the tower. he explains that the goblins fear the ancient elven magic that the tower still holds.
They awake the next morning to find thier wounds healed and thier weariness gone. With renewed determination they decide to head back once again for the fallen temple.

Rising Knight part 4 (3-30-07)
The party returns to Baleon Nakt, for a final showdown with Gritznak. Much to the party's surprise they find no resistance to thier return. As they enter the first room they find things have changed, walls that had not been present before are now in place, limiting thier choice of direction to a one course. (They quickly deciced to test these new wall and found them to be illusions.) They then took to exploring the upper levels again, finding nothing at all. On the lower levels they again found illusionary walls that seemed to be herding them in a general direction.
Again refusing to be herded the party starts exploring the level, only to find empty chamber after empty chamber. The only creature they encountered was a goblin cook, who got caught between the two dwarves and cut to pieces.(After nearly being killed on their last visit both the PCs and the players were looking for blood, there would be no quarter given this week.)
Finally the party just goes with the flow and allows the illusionary walls to guide them to where it wanted them. The party finally enters a rectanglular chamber with an alter and a glowing eye symbol on the wall behind it. Here at last stood Gritznak the gnoll, seemingly alone. As the party charges thier foe, a wall blocks the doorway behind them cutting off the only way back out (The party thought this to be another illusion, but in truth was a real wall, created by the temple itself). Also several illusionary walls disappeared revealing a score of hidden goblins and another gnoll.
The battle was on!
It quickly became apparent to the party that the goblins where trying to capture them rather than kill them, they then noticed the manacles on the alter and guessed they where meant for sacrifices. A wild melee ensues with "Stick" (Paco) mowing down goblin after goblin (THe player probably killed more foes in that melee than he had since he started gaming.) Maya cast a sleep spell which helped the odds and Boris tossed a enchanted tablet that unleashed a magical burst of cold that stoped several more goblin in thier tracks. (This kept the oarty from being overwhelmed by the numbers at the start.)
The temple eye even joined in fighting with a spiritual hammer. Brus battered Gritznak down only to have Tasha deliver the killing blow, then he turned on the eye itself and battered it until he himself was dropped. Tasha again stepped in and finished off the "eye". With some healing Brus was standing once again, as the party stood victorious.
The party gatherd loot and magic items from the fallen raiders and then returned to Malforten.
(A lot of details where lost due to my lack of haste in getting this CJ update , still playing catch up, still down by two sessions.)

Yes, please don't be like me and whimp out on posting these things. Especially since you have gotten so far.
In other words, I look forward to more.

Ah! They pissed you off, big ugly group argument ensues, lots of hurtful things said in anger, everyone leaves hating each other.
Hopefully when everyone cools off things will get better.

False alarm, the campaign continues after a quick regrouping by the CK.
A lot of things have happened since my last update, way too much to detail so I will try a brief summary, of the party's triumphs.
First, the party returns to Malforten, then on to Melford. In Melford they encounter a very ugly, deformed (and according to the paladin very evil) man. The paladin strongly suggests he leaves town, the man does so. They later learn the man's name was Mipp, and he is brother to the owners of the Kings Head tavern in Melford.
The next day while traveling on to Dun Eamon, the party finds a partialy burnt wagon, belonging to a halfing silk merchant. (The mother of the now deceased Goodhill sisters). They also encounter a cloaked man, that they had seen before in Malforten. Kiint, a hunter/trapper and a leper. He agrees to help track the the halflings abductors, if the party will later aid him in his personal quest.
Kiint tracks three horses NE for several hours, ending at a abandoned looking farmhouse, north of Melford. Three horses are tied out front, which wander towards the party, only to have huge worms explode out from thier bodies. A very tough battle follows as the party battles three flesh crawlers.
After the battle the party finds a hidden shrine (horned god) under the farm house, also many twisted spiders (scuttlers) and undead (crawling corpses). They also find three brothers, who admit to kidnapping the halfling and turning her over to Mipp (who then turned on them). In exchange for their freedom the three tell the party that Mipp planned on sacrificing the halfing at a fallen temple of the Horned God, north of Malforten. (Baleon Nakt again.)
Once back at Baleaon Nakt, the party finds that Mipp and the temple itself have animated some of the slain humanoids, and once again the party fights a desperate battle in the pits of temple, in the end the cleric Mipp was killed, the undead destroyed and the halfling saved.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Maliki, really glad to hear you're running the game again. I like what you've done with the temple complex/tower and the area around Malforten. It looks like you got a lot of mileage out of this module.
When I ran my group, they were young and new to the game, so I scaled some of the encounters and dungeon challenges back. But if I were to run this for veterans, I would probably make it as tough as you did or more . . hehe!!

Another summary of the last month or so of gaming.
After their latest victory as Baleon Nakt, the party, along with Kiint strike out for the Barren Wood, seeking the witch who lives there, in hopes of finding a cure for Kiint (all traditional mundane and magical cures have failed).
While traveling through Arendale, they hear of the demise of another party of adventurers (their first PCs) in nearby runes. Now the Angus family (from Dun Eamon) are repairing the runed keep. The Angus family are looking to use the might of Dun Eamon to protect the entire vale, anf are looking to use it as a base.
After a run-in with a wandering ogre, the party locates the witch. She agrees to help them in exchange for the party retrieving the "Eye of the Serpent from Blacktooth Ridge. (She tells the party that the "Eye" is in the hands of humanoids within Blacktooth Ridge, but she does not know which group. She has some detailed scouting reports and offers the location of several lairs along the ridge. They are introduced to Cornwall Aloysius Barthalomew Brairfellow Algernom Greencorn esquire(Cabbage for short) A Gnomish spellcaster and part-time adventurer, who travels with the party and particapates in an attack on a orc lair, before departing to return to Dun Eamon. (He does plan to rejoin the group as soon as possible)
The party spends several weeks making successful raids against the lairs of kobolds, goblins/hobgoblins, orcs and two groups of Ungern. In each lair they find stockpiles of arms and armor, as well as provisions. In two of the lairs they also find captives from raided caravans (which they free). All signs show that a massive build-up of humanoids is occuring (of course the raids by the PCs have really hindered any plans the humanoids may have had.
On thier latest strike they learned the location of one of the major strongholds along the ridge. The party now plans to return to Arendale to rest and prepare for a full attack on the stronghold. (hopefully Cabbage will be available to join them, bringing them up to full strength.)
