So what do YOU want to see?
So what do YOU want to see?
So, folks, Amazing Adventures has been out for about 14 months, now, and we're looking to the future.
Assuming there's going to be a sourcebook for Amazing Adventures (there is, btw), what would YOU want to see included? I can't promise to use every suggestion or idea, but if there's something you feel really is missing in the core game that should be included in a "companion" style sourcebook, sound off! I'm all about trying to give you guys what you want.
I'd ask, however, that you keep it to generalizations, to avoid accusations of plagiarism down the line.
For example, if you say, "include a Soldier character class!" that's fine. Even discussing the kinds of things the class might have in general, is ok.
If you say, "include THIS Soldier character class," followed by a complete writeup of the class as it would appear in the book? That's a sure fire way to ensure that there will NOT be a soldier class, if that makes sense.

How about some heritage to add a bit of diversity, kind of like races.
Now I hope this doesn't exclud my suggestion, as I am just saying here are some examples:
Scottish Highlander might be better at fighting and stronger but since they have such a deep accent their charisma might be lower
Some druid heritage making them more apt for magic

Lord of the jungle class.

Re: So what do YOU want to see?
I've actually waffled on this for quite some time. The problem I have with it is that it wanders dangerously close to offensive stereotype territory, and while the pulps themselves are rife with stereotypes that by today's standards are offensive, we can judge them upon the era in which they were written. Amazing Adventures, on the other hand, has to trod the line of emulating the pulps while still adhering to modern sensibilities.Dracyian wrote:How about some heritage to add a bit of diversity, kind of like races.

You're not the only one to ask for that one. It may yet make it in...Sir Ironside wrote:Lord of the jungle class.

I see exactly where you are coming from, and while I understand it, it makes me a little sad too. I wish I could think of way to make it feasible to where you could work it but everything I come up with is more along the lines of just building the back story of the character up.The Grey Elf wrote:I've actually waffled on this for quite some time. So maybe what about an expanded section on home brewing a character background or making it a bit more in depth while avoiding the offensive stereotypes.
Like maybe a childhood section something like growing up as the younger sister to a scoialite makes you more apt to suceed in these aspects but the shadow of your older sister makes you more apt to fail in these aspects, or a kid spending his childhood being bullied or in and out of street gangs/mafias

Well, that's actually how Backgrounds work in game, but your suggestions are good ones. I could incorporate an expanded discussion of backgrounds and traits in the future. That's actually a good idea.Dracyian wrote:I see exactly where you are coming from, and while I understand it, it makes me a little sad too. News I just saw on a possible Doc Savage movie (to be directed by Shane Black who just did Iron Man 3):

As to more material...I'd like to see a "ton" of NPC's (good, bad, and so bad they are good)...archetypes, allies, villains, etc. Several should be "knockoffs" of the "real deal". Personally, I have a hard-time envisioning characters without seeing lots of examples (that's true in general for me and not specific to Amazing Adventures). The more examples I have, the more confident I get in making a unique character of my own. Also obviously, it would help to have ready-made characters/NPC's to put into my own game.

Re: So what do YOU want to see?
I think capmarvel hit on a good one. A small selection of example/template characters would be great. It would also help to show how two different characters of the same class can be very different. As well as give new players something to use as an example.
I think some sample settlings/game starters would be great. Like a sample paranormal investigation agency the players can join. Secret society or two. Possible global conspiracy. Examples of a few cursed items.
Although I absolutely love the magic system for AA, what about some alternate systems? Runes, crafted, or chi.

AD&D per se is as dead a system as Latin is a language, while the C&C game has much the same spirit and nearly the same mechanics. --Gary Gygax 8/16/06

Any news on the sourcebook?
Re: So what do YOU want to see?
I'll second Lord of the Jungle and Soldier classes!
maybe some more generic class abilities.

Re: So what do YOU want to see?
First off, just want to say I had a good time way back in the last Gencon when Jason ran an AA for me, my brother, my son and his buddy. Great guy and great GM (and of course, we are awesome players...lol) I really recommend the game!
Anyway, I would like to see source books that further break down specific pulp genres...like a Cthulhu type of horror source book...a modern Walking Dead type zombie source book.... and a pulp superhero (aka the shadow or green hornet) book...and so on.

Re: So what do YOU want to see?
If there was a way to swing it legally, I'd love to see character stats for some of the classic pulp heroes, such as The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Spider, etc.
Re: So what do YOU want to see?
Any kind of an update? not asking for a set date or set details.....Just proof of life would be nice....
Re: So what do YOU want to see?
Guys, I'm REALLY sorry to have dropped off the face of the earth. My life has been insane the last 8 months or so.
The sourcebook is progressing. Steve's focus has been on C&C lately (understandably) and the awesome new product he's got coming out for it.
I'm doing a second job writing freelance web content for sites you don't even want to know about (no, not porn! Get your minds out of the gutter!) which has been sucking up way too much of my time, but it's regular pay, which game writing isn't.
That's a lame excuse, but I am working on the sourcebook as well as the Brimstone and the Borderhounds RPG. We still have big plans for AA; it's just a matter of pulling it all together. On this one the delay is largely on me. I need to find the time to buckle down and finish knocking this sucker out.
There are plans to do a Kickstarter once we're ready, to fund the sourcebook and a revised second printing of the corebook, as well as a third, as-yet-to-be-announced book.
