Wazzat? Mystery Critters in C&C Art

Post by Colin Chapman »

Hey,

So, perusing the PHB and M&T as I am wont to do, I noticed that some critters pictured are not actually statted up or given names in M&T. For instance, on pg. 124 of the PHB 2nd printing, there's the large, multi-eyed, tentacled, maggot-like mucous-mouthed critter. Also, what're the horned, well-dressed and equipped blue/green-skinned giant-folk depicted on the cover of M&T?

I've got ideas about them and an itch to stat them up (the former, for example, I imagine is a critter known to prey on trolls, possessed of potent acidic mucous, and the ability to spit globs of it), but I was wondering if they were things already described elsewhere (such as in Erde).

cheers!

Colin

I thought the M&T cover was Ogre Magi.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

The creatures on the M&T cover are the Troll Lords.

I considered that, but it didn't quite fit the Ogre Mage description, of possessing only a single horn protruding above the brow ridge, and of using exotic arms and armour It probably is supposed to be a trio of Ogre Magi, but doesn't quite fit the main description.

cheers!

That's what Pete has said before.

Yeah, the cover critters are an homage to Steve, Davis, and I think Todd.

Indeed... stats? name? Story behind such a critter?

Sounds kinda like an abolisk only with more than one eye.

I don't know what it is. It just looked cool for a visual element in the picture. ^_~`
