I bought Steve Jackson's Zombie Dice and the Zombie Dice 2 expansion recently. The main game has been around for nearly 5 years now. For what it is, it's a fun little in-betweener that made 5 and 10 year old picked up rather quickly. Mind you it's just a simple dice game, it's not The Longest Day by Avalon Hill. Still yet, I recommend it.

Played a 3 Player Game of D&D Attack Wing today. A Friend brought his daughter over and ran the intro scenario with the Copper, Blue and Red Dragon. I solo'd the game once before, but the didn't remember much of the rules, so set and first turn took a bit, but after that it was game on. Still some referencing of the rules for turn 2 and 3, but a lot of fun.

I played Axis & Allies 1942 2nd edition and Splendor on Friday. I liked Splendor so much, I got a copy for myself. My wife and I squeezed in one game of that last night before bed.

By pocket edition do you mean the original one aka MicroGame #1 ?TheMetal1 wrote:... Ogre (pocket edition)...
If so, that is a great game. I spent hours playing that along with GEV. I loved that game, simple and yet oh so fun.
Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?
Playing Runebound with the family. We started last weekend and we're playing a little every few nights. Enjoying it so far. The learning curve isn't too bad and I like the mechanics of the game for the most part. We'll see how we feel after we're done "playtesting".

I imagine so. I'd bet he got it by backing the OGRE Kickstarter like I did. Car Wars is up right now. Well, one version of it.Daniel wrote:By pocket edition do you mean the original one aka MicroGame #1 ?TheMetal1 wrote:... Ogre (pocket edition)...

Ah they did a reprint then. Good. The original needs to be remembered.Treebore wrote:I imagine so. I'd bet he got it by backing the OGRE Kickstarter like I did. Car Wars is up right now. I still have my original game, well second copy as my first fell apart.
Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?
Tree is sort of right! It is the reprint of the pocket edition - ziplock bag, paper board, and punchout counters. IIRC, the print version from SJ Games is still $2.95. I picked mine up at my FLGS. I did pick up the Ogre Designer Edition, along with a bunch of extras - but got it retail, not during the kickstarter. It is a massive thing but doesn't get played really at all.Daniel wrote:Ah they did a reprint then. Good. The original needs to be remembered.Treebore wrote:I imagine so. Dungeon (the 2012 WOTC version). I own the early 90's TSR version, and played (many moons ago) the version that most recall from the late 70's/early 80's. Very simple game but for 20 bucks, it's fun for the entire family. Mission accomplished. Was nice meeting original creator, Dave Megarry, at GaryCon. I think he's going to be at Gamehole later this year.

My copy of the Temple of Elemental Evil board game came in while I was in Texas. Hopefully we'll play it this weekend.

Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?
Played Castle Ravenloft with work friends this weekend. The game beat us, but it was a lot of fun.
Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?
Metal1, you beat me to it. My kids and I have recently played SJG's Mars Attacks Dice Game. An easy to learn dice game. On a related note, a local game store mistakenly ordered (for me) Martian Dice (Tasty Minstrel Games). It comes with 13 dice and is different enough from SJG's Zombie Dice, so as not to be a rip-off. Also, I finally purchased a larger reprint of Avalon Hill's oop classic, Circus Maximus. This version is on laminated ?? Pound paper, and clocks in at over 5 feet long and 2+ feet wide. I have the one inch plastic laminated counters as well. I have 3 sets of metal chariots w/horse teams, etc. I'd like to have 5 more sets. I'll try to post a pic of this one. You have to see it to believe it.
Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?
Thanks for the mentions of Car Wars. Still need that one. Picked up one of two redo, reprinted maps for Avalon Hill's oop game, Gladiator. Circus. Maximus is a level 2 out of 10. This one is a 4. I have continued to play CM over the years, but haven't played Gladiator since 1989? The same company sells cd-rom scans of some of Avalon Hill's oop games. My disc for CM and Gladiator includes original board and counter scans, as well as the rules and General Magazine articles. Pretty cool stuff. I'll give a report once I play Gladiator again. Definitely crunchier than CM.
Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?
Never had a chance to play Circus Maximus, it looks pretty intense though.
Mars Attacks was pretty simple but fun. I have SJ Games Dino Hunt which is bit like MA, but less "stuff".
I will say, I did get in a game of Dungeon! (and won as the Rogue), and had a great game of Munchkin with the UA expansion, quite a battle a level 9 with all the 5 players there at once. But the real winner of the game time was Bang! Fast play, good strategy and just a lot of fun, but you need at least 4 Players. Resistance was good as well, but you really need 5 players.

Re: What boardgame(s) are you playing?
Well it isn’t actually playing a board game, but it’s a start. Yesterday, my girls found an old “King Arthur” chess set that my wife had bought and put in the bottom of one of their closets. They wanted to learn how to play.
I spent 20 min showing them how to set up the board and how each piece moved. Then today, after the 7 hour soccer tournament, we played until my wife finished dinner. By the end, my younger daughter was just trying to be silly and move them at random – it is to be expected with her just being 6 ½. However, my older girl was getting into it and asking a ton of ‘what if my knight is here and ….’ questions
Also, after the big floods I had here a few weeks ago – the water got up into my garage/shop, and I found out that some of my water proof boxes aren’t waterproof. One of the boxes had all of my table top war game miniatures in it. I had to take them out of their boxes and let them dry. The girls saw the miniatures and asked about them.
Their eyes lit up when I talked about putting them together, painting them, and then playing out a battle. Sadly, I can’t let the girls lose with the paint. If I did, I’d have Vikings with sparkly shields and Norman Knights with pink horses … However, I was so proud when my younger girl canted one of the knights so he was leaning a bit off the side of the horse and said “There daddy, now he can hit better on this side, and that one – pointing to a Celt spearman – can’t hit him from that side. Also, my older girl loved the idea of light skirmisher troops hitting and then falling back to slow down the other side and screen theirs.
I just may have to put together a quick army or 2 of unpainted minis and go at it with them. Maybe 3 armies and just see if they will work together to take me, or if I can get them to turn on each other and do my dirty work for me ….

Rhuvein, I won't lie. The larger versions are pricey. 65 for the larger CM map, and 28 for the set of the 1 inch laminated plastic counters. You can get the regular sized map and counters for in the low 30-range. CM is a racing game classic. It combines some of the original late 70's Battleline version, and uses the preparation point system borrowed from Avalon Hill's (but formerly from another company) Speed Circuit. I've been a huge fan since 1986. Link... Camelotgamestore.com. also check out the ahgeneral site for cd-roms, etc.

I finally played Settlers of Cataan for the first time on Friday. I also got to play Seven Wonders. It was a fun night. Both games were great.
