Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
This thread is for the game I am running in Ross's Sunday slot opposite Nate's game. Just about all bookkeeping can be in Roll20, but I'll try to post availability here each week (but also in the date field on the Roll20 game itself). For anyone else looking on, this is nominally a sandbox game centered around an ancient desert city ruled by 3 mages that rarely show themselves, with day to day affairs decided by their designee. Flavor is more Clark Ashton Smith or Jack Vance than 1001 Nights. While partially run by random events which the players decide to act upon or not, there are some "set pieces" available and some modules sprinkled around that fit the setting. There is a living, uncaring background that progresses with or without the players and they can go with that flow or ignore it. I've been running it for a few years off and on at the table, in PbP, and on Roll20 and Map Tool. Very few house rules (so far), we play mostly by the book. The game started out as a Delving Deeper game. PLAYERS: Gringnr Rhuvein Penny-Whistle NEXT GAME: Sunday 12 June 2016 7:00PM CST

Awesome! +1 to HP for CON 13 though. You can have 4 cantrips in your spell book even though you've prepared one twice. You have 2 more Primes to choose. Is she a relative of Bernadette the Cleric and a devotee of the Raven Lord? If she is a native Xylhian she may have a residence.

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
She is Bernadette's grandmother. = ) The whole family worships the Raven Lord. Have for generations. The family is based in Xylh and maintain a small residence there. The extra hit point will come in super handy I am sure. ty Added in Dancing Lights for the Zero Level Spell list.

Sorry, if I missed this the other night . . but are using C&C as the ruleset? And if so, what are your chargen rules or are they btb? Tanks!

C&C; all info should be there in the Roll20 handouts. Start with "New Characters".

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
Thanks. Is there any Al-Qadim (2nd E setting) influences or usage? Mention of the desert always gets me thinking of this campaign setting.

I'm gonna wait until Gringnr decides upon a char/class and then I'll choose! [Unless he is waiting for me and then I'll go ahead!]

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
Can we run two chars? I'm still liking the glimjack and would like to put it to the gaming test as it were.

You may run two characters, sure. I prefer Glimjack to be an NPC class: they really are overpowered.

Not sure what I'm gonna run yet. But I will figure it out when I get back from this work trip. Is there anything the party could use? Cuz I'm flexible.

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
The last party did a lot of overland travel, so a desert ranger or druid would be useful. Meat and potatoes cleric and fighter are always useful. In the city, a thief or assassin might have fun.

I didn't see anything about rolling for attributes, so should I assume a straight 3d6 roll?

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
For race, I'm thinking that a half-elf of human lineage might be acceptable and manageable for Aergraith.

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
We don't have to go overland though. We could spend most of our time in cities if you'd rather play something else. A druid with a vulture animal companion would be awesome anywhere!

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
We've had WAY more ospreys in my hood this year than in previous spring migrations. Amazing and beautiful creatures. I'm now torn between Samson - Cooper's Hawk (friend to my Llasa Apso, Delilah), Ruth - Turkey Vulture (named after my Mom when she was sick in the hospital in Ft. Lauderdale and my sister and I would watch them from her room - blast into pigeons on subroofs and tear them to pieces eating them very quickly, and finally Benny and Pearl, the two ospreys hanging around the nearby pond and sometimes the small lake across the street. [Aside, so many cardinals and yellow finches this year . . and no, I can't possibly name them ~ or can I?] Might have to roll the dice!

We'll use Book of Familiars, so there's a skill check to get a familiar.

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
Cool! Was thinking of the animal companion druid spell, but gaining a familiar creature might be better (I don't have the book), so I'll be interested in what the book offers!

The spell works of course, as written. If you choose to go the BoF route there are more things you can do. I am just reading it now.

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
I like the idea of a "desert ranger." Is this in any of the C&C books, or a class of your devising, Aergeraith?

Re: Aergraith's Sunday C&C: "Heroes and Scoundrels of Xylh"
There's nothing inherent in the ranger that makes it have to be a woodland thing. I think mostly, you're a ranger, and you are in the desert. We might be able to tweak it a little if there's something that really requires greenery.
