Arcane & Divine Magic Saves
Hey, I'm from Argentina and I just started DMing C&C. I'm having some doubts about saves.
Thing is: characteres are entitled to an arcane and divine magic save on one side, but on the other each spell entry tells you wether the character can roll for save or not (for confusion, charm, fear, etc.).
The PHB says that Divine and Arcane are "catch-all" categories for every magical effect not included on some other specific category. My interpretation is that if the spells tell you to roll charm, fear or what have you, you just roll that one and if the spells defines no specific category, you are entitled to roll arcane or divine (wheter the caster is a wizard or a cleric). ¿Am I right?
That means: ¿Every character has a saving chance against any spell?
Thanks.

Re: Arcane & Divine Magic Saves
Not necessarily. Arcane and Divine magic describes the basic category of spells. Wizards and Illusionists cast Arcane magic and Clerics and Druids cast Divine. When you look at the individual spell description, it tells you which Attribute to use for the save or if there is even a save allowed. Magic Missile and Sleep spells do not grant a saving throw.

What I get out of it is, after re-reading the info in the spell section and CK section towards the rear of the PHB, is that the saving throw of the spell description determines what type of save to use. The arcane and divine descriptor are really simply descriptors for a classification regarding the type of magic. This only comes into play if the spell description or magic item text in question does not provide a specific saving throw type so the CK can make a determination of their own about the saving throw needed and/or attribute most suitable for use.

I get it. It only comes into play IF the spell entry says that a Saving Throw is allowed, but it doesn't specifies what kind of saving throw applies. Thanks man.

Re: Arcane & Divine Magic Saves
Thanks dude, I intended to organize some AD&D 2e games -my generational edition- but I found out the system didn't aged that well. Specially if you want to introduce new players to it. 3e and PF are too crunchy, 4e is World of Warcraft with D20 and 5e... well, it has no soul.
So watching some youtube reviews I bumped into C&C and it rapidly grew on me. Big hearted game and fast paced as hell, the best possible update for AD&D 2e.
I'm trying to preach the virtues of it here in my home country, wish me luck!

It is also important to note that, for some classes, races, items or spells, there may be adjustment to the save. For example, a dwarf, as I recall, gets a bonus against all arcane spell saves even if he's using Strength and not Intelligence, or whatever.
