Omote's Maps
Here's the western section of a contininet in my Rhuinlands campaign setting.
These are four parts of a sixteen part small continental map.
These four sections were drawn on old 8.5" x 11.0" Chessex hex-paper.
The coloring is by colored pencil.
I'm trying to find a way to host all 16 peices of this map. If anybody has any ideas for good hosting sites that could accomindate many large pictures, I'd appreciate the heads up.

The maps look good. It must have been fun/rewarding to draw them.

The above maps were considered at 6 miles hex-side to hex side. I thought it might be convienient to have a zoomed-in view of these 6-mile hexes.
So much like the old Judges Guild maps I thought more detail for travelling would be in order. I came up with examples like the following:
Obviously this map was just a test on how it would work. So far I like the results, and I think it would work very well in-game, especially in a campaign that foucses on wilderness exploration.
Note: It's probably not visable, but this map and the lands of Yggsburgh are in my Rhuinlands campaign setting. As soon as CZ was released I knew I'd have to put it in the setting, so I did.
One day I'll actually get this series of maps done.

Very nice work. did you do this as you went? Or did you have a fairly good sketch done first?
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I had a rough idea in my mind on what the area and the terrain was like. To be honest, it's still a rough idea, but in the above sketch I was playing around with how I wanted to draw terrain within hexes, and in-between hexes.
This map was also used to determine what colors I was going to use for hexes. For this mapping technique a standard color scheme would be helpful for easy reference.
For colors, I liked how yellows came out in contrast to the browns and greens of the maps at the top of this thread, but I don't like how yellow works in this more zoomed-in map perspective.
For the final version of these Wilderlands-style maps, the colors, especially around the mountain hexes will be... different. Don't ask me how though, yet.

Not to push you into doing more work than you'd like...
Oftentimes with color I have to see it completed before I can make a judgment call on whether it works or not. The yellow is pretty bold right now but I wonder how it would be once you greened and yellowed out that marsh area and beyond.

Your not pushing me into anything at all. All ideas and thoughts are welcome. You're probably right about that. When I get time to finish up this test, I'll post the gussied-up, colorized version here.

Here are some more maps from the original series that I posted.
Obviously they are not all finished pending my development of the particular "white area," but I'll post it anyways for completeness sake.
These four sections are arranged immediatly to the right of the ones posted earlier.
I appologize in advance for anybody who looks at this thread on dial-up... .
Just to make sure with the TLG Admins/Moderators... it is OK to post [large] images like this, right?

Thanks for all the complements.
Currently these pics are on photobucket (Thx Serleran ), but I just [img] linked them here to the page so that they could be seen, tiled together (combined).
I don't have the ability to make .pdfs either. These images are scaled down just a bit. I tried to get them as close to the 8.5" x 11" that I could without bogging down this thread in massive pictures. Unfortunatly the images were compressed at little bit, as you can easily tell.
By tomorrow I'll take a picture of the whole continental map (16 pieces together) and post it up here.

Omote, I was wondering where you found those hex sheets? I can't seem to find them anywhere on the interweb.

The hex-sheets that I used inthe maps above were from Chessex. Chexxes produced these things from 1992 until 1996. As far as I know they are nowhere to found anymore. Chessex doesn't have them and has no plans to do them again. I havn;t found anymore of these 8.5" x 11" map pieces in 5 years. Sorry. Personally I think they are the best large-scale hex-maps produced.
On the scans above, I have not included the borders that is on the Chessex hex paper. The borders are .5" all around except for the "binder-side" which is 1". The binder-side border also includes a small text box for notes.

Thanks Kyle, I have the site bookmarked. My problem with it is I can't get the borders as narrow as I'd like (read none). Just have to settle for what I can do for free with the equipment I have.
