How do you know your an artist?

Post by gideon_thorne »

When you catch yourself trying to fork your bacon and eggs with your wacom tablet stylus pen.

When you've discovered that Mt Dew makes an excellent water based blending medium for pencil drawing.

When eatable playdoh is also called 'lunch'.

Paint by number is in reference to how many clients you need to call back.

When your sitting and eyeballing a girl and the first thing your thinking of is how good she would look in barely covering armor fighting a dragon.

Well, I am not an "artist", but I am playing at being one in a College Ceramics class. I liked how it felt when I made a soup bowl that felt good to hold and helped increase the "comfort food" feel of a good bowl of soup.

I did use one of my Ceramics tools to mix the cream and sugar in a cup of coffee, though. I'm pretty sure it was clean too.

Plus I was eating carrots without washing the clay off of my hands first. Does that count?

How do you know you're an art critic?

When the first thing to come to mind is that it's spelled " you're an artist " and not " your an artist ".

*chuckles* Only one rebuttal for that, from the immortal Heinlein:
Quote:
A "critic" is a man who creates nothing and thereby feels qualified to judge the work of creative men. There is logic in this; he is unbiased--he hates all creative people equally.

We have more of a shot of seeing the imagination become reality.

This is how I discovered the Mt Dew blending technique mentioned above.

OMG! You're serious about that aren't you? I would have thought the MD would degrade the canvas/paper etc.

Nope. Works fine on #1 weight cold press illustration board.

Again, I wish I had an ounce of talent!

I can't say I'm an artist, but I've done that (more than once I hate to admit) painting minatures.

I feel sorry for you Jason. I noticed it a nano second before I drank it. Had the damn thing on my lips! That's when I realized I had become an obsesive miniature painter.

Ya know what they call the person who has the lowest grade in art class?

An abstract impressionist.

I photograph, not paint (can I still be an artist, please! ) and I find myself closing one eye when looking at something to see how it will look on film.
