Re: Speaking of Houserules: Healing

I do something similar to Dunbruha I let the PCs regain 1d4 HP for resting for 10 min (1 turn) after each fight. I also allow 25% of lost HP to be regained by a night's rest anywhere, and 50% of lost HP to be regained by a night's rest in a safe, comfortable location. This is our group's way of ensu...

Re: XP for Trolls?

yeah, my mind is undoubtedly already lost .... :o I'm content to use BtB monster XP. The problem is home-brewed monsters and classed npcs, which by using the chart will seem to be undervalued when compared to the statted monsters. E.g., a single river troll is worth more - a lot more - than a 5th le...

Re: So the newest CK screens...

i love the landscape screens, although I never use them for the tables- just for rolling dice behind and keeping my maps and stuff secret. In fact, I use them for the same purpose in my OSRIC game too (although I'm going to have to make combat table overlays to stick onto the screens for that game).

XP for Trolls?

no, I'm not talking about Steve ... ;-) I apologize if this has been treated elsewhere, but I was curious about the standard XP award for river trolls, which according to M&T is 360 + 6/HP. By the chart on p. 6, I don't know how one arrives at that figure. That is, if one were doing it from scra...

Re: Hard Times in Narsileon

some explanation on the last entry. The events described took place in sessions held in May and June 2012, for which I have only scanty notes. Instead of skipping the entries for those sessions, I decided I should try to fill in the gaps. My first thought was to just add a few lines according to the...

I dropped by to look up some facts in this thread for the reboot of this campaign (last night), and was shocked to see how many hits it had. Thanks, folks. I do feel sorry I haven't updated in over 6 months. For anyone still interested, I have two sessions from the summer that have not yet been writ...

Re: Changing the game's currency

great thread. I've also been bothered by the monetary and economic systems of D&D (and C&C) for years. 'real' world monetary systems (by which I mean Roman and/or medieval Europe) were bi- or tri-metallic. The romans had bronze coins, used largely in cities by ordinary people for everyday it...

Re: TLG 8130 Codex Druidum

well I'll be! So it is, Serleran. And, in fact, my Lewis and Short conveniently gives the following entry: Druides, -um (Druidae, -arum). So the genitive plural (masc.) is druidum, making "Codex Druidum" correct. I retract any objection to that phrase! All the more reason, then, to use the...

Re: TLG 8130 Codex Druidum

I hesitate to criticize, but since the 'look' of the codex series seems to be latinate [e.g., 'codex' + 'genitive plural of noun in question'], it might be advisable to emulate Latin as much as is possible. The problem that I see with "codexi" is that it makes it look like the Trolls *thin...

just got the latest Troll's Anvil email update. It's great to see all the creativity pouring from the dens. I'm proud to say my two 5th-printing PHs have arrived and are looking fine. I have one suggestion, though. "Codexi" sounds a bit strange ... since the plural of the Latin 'codex' is ...

Re: *TLG WISH LIST* ~ Let the Trolls know what YOU want to s

I'm going to step out on a limb and ask for new adventures set someplace other than Aihrde, and written by some new voices. There are a lot of talented OSR adventure writers out there who might be persuaded to offer some more vanilla fantasy for C&C, if approached and properly enticed.

Re: Hard Times in Narsileon

Thanks, Omote. I confess (and freely tell my players) that I feel free to fictionalize slightly as my memory requires when it comes to write-ups. All the major events occur, but I will sometimes re-imagine conversations. I do sometimes jot down especially memorable lines during play. After a long hi...

A typo leaped off the page at me on p. 19, under Behir, though: the Behir is said to attack 'viscously', when it should be 'viciously'.

Re: For those of you using Fate Points

I use the d30 rule that Jeff Rients developed (at least I think it was he). The players love that rule, and love to argue about when it's the best moment to use the big ball o' fun. I also use fate points through a system of my own creation (it predates the CKG, and was also borrowed and modified fr...

Re: How will 5e affect C&C?

i'll say that for me, personally, my days of collecting and playing multiple rpgs are over. This has less to do with having found 'the one true path' than it does with a realistic assessment of what I want to get out of gaming. I have limited time for it, and I want it to be fun and easy. This was n...

thanks, Omote. I appreciate the feedback. I confess that I felt that the final battle (B2, obviously) was anticlimactic. But the PCs had worked for a long time to achieve their goals, and ultimately the victory was well-deserved. There are still the caves of humanoids to clear out, if they so desire...

to any readers: sorry for the lack of posts. We had a session in mid december, and then not another until mid January. I fell behind on write-ups and finally managed to get them all worked into this one longish post.

hope it may provide some entertainment ....
