Re: Siege w/o Challenge Ratings

If I were to go CB, no CLs I would change CBs to 13 prime, 17 non-prime and then gain a class/HD bonus every 2 levels. So 1st and 2nd level or 1 & 2 HD would have a +1 on the roll, 3rd & 4th +2, etc. This would allow a greater difficulty later on and be slightly more akin to older D&D. O...

What about a +1 dmg per even level? Won't be as powerful as the ranger but would be more constant than dice rolls.

I was dreading this change originally but changed my mind. I think this may help independent publishers as the ttrpg audience looks for alternatives to the 500lbs cyborg in the room.

Re: Combat Dominance

i think automatically dropping 10 creatures is getting into spell territory which means you would have to increase the xp level requirement of the class to get your steel canon towards the other glass canon levels. What about something like this: Combat Dominance = effective against all creatures wi...

I would love to see a treatment of something like The Shadow or The Avenger if they were to go that route. The old pulp noir heroes would be great.

-Cast Resurrect, no corruption- I've been lately thinking about the alternative magic question, reading the swords & chaos thread as well as a few others. I was in a 1e/2e game and had the feeling of magic basically becoming technology. After reading the Willow Sourcebook I thinking of trying th...

There are conversion notes in one of the recent Domesday found in the other CnC forum Knights of the Round table. 7, 8, or 9 I think.

If it were me & I had a player like this... I would hire someone to write & record an epic rock song about Corum of the planes, kicking open the doors of hell and then Orcus in the nuts. How he was one of the epic few who were worthy to raise thor's hammer even though he was "the impote...

Re: Proficiency Bonus

It is a decision tree thing: Is the Ranger broken? Yes = How is it broken and therefore what will repair it? No = don't mess with it. Well I think it is ok to mess with it. C&C i mean. But any house rules need to be understood on how they will affect one's game. That's why I think just test it ...

Re: Proficiency Bonus

Jumping on the back of the Ranger idea you could limit the Smite to target types per level. So you could have: Level 1= Smite evil human Level 3= Smite evil human & undead Level 5= Smite evil human & undead & aberration Level 7= Smite evil human & undead & aberration & demon/...

Re: Siege complaints

If seen the high level complaints and thought about CL equal to HD levels 1-10 and then 1 every even level after. So a 16 HD creature would have a CL of 13 for a target of 25 or 31. Not as easy has half HD or spell level but you do feel it if you make it to the teens. I figure since HP reduces at 11...

I can always bust out one of my cheesy 80s fantasy films like "Deathstalker" and get the same low production values and writing with the added bonus of gratuitous nubility.

If I can ever get a game going again, I will try going back to the MERP crit tables again.
IIRC, it was 20 to crit, % for effect adjusted by the prevailing attribute score.

Conversions &/or adaptations. Bringing in things like Planescape races or other system settings such as Hellfrost is what I would love to see. Everyone says it's so easy, but at least some starter ideas would be great to get creativity flowing. Doing a quick search.... https://trolllord.com/for...

Totally agree with Tadhg on this one. I think its great that TLG is giving 5e players the opportunity to experience old school style adventures in 5e. I think its the most effective way to have the broader market become aware of TLG and its work. I don't think we truly appreciate just how niche and...

Second to last C&C group we did the +3 prime, -3 prime vs 15 + half HD or spell level for saves. Worked great and kept the AD&D flavor of saves for us.

For dungeons I like burrowing bugs, large or swarms. Those are great during rest periods since they don't care about the locked door, just the loose floor tile. I also think prisoners are a great tool. Could be as simple as 'my family has a few gold to give you for me' to 'Great, now we can work tog...

That said, I do like the idea behind advantage / disadvantage, especially as you said rewarding them for role playing etc. But as someone with horrid dice luck … I prefer bonusses of plusses (and the more plusses the better to overcome my dice god's curse). You may just need to try a different prog...

Sounds reasonable. I've always been on the fence when it comes to Tertiary attributes. I always felt that it negated some of the 'specialty' certain classes have in their specific abilities but never really tried it. I also played around w/your idea of lowering the targets also, at least on paper. I...

Re: Simple SIEGE

If you want to keep closer to AD&D while keeping it simple I would do this: Prime Save Target = 13, non-prime Save Target = 18. Every even level the prime target goes down by one (2nd. 4th, etc.) Every odd level after 1st the non-prime goes down by one. So at the end of the day (12-13th level) y...
