So actually, obvious though it sounds (and is), how the challenge level is arrived at is fairly irrelevant, just set a number that's appropriate for the task in hand!

Yes, it does help, thanks
In your example, you set the CL to -10, is that because you think the task to be very simple, even for the halfling?

'Checks' Questions

<t>I'm just reading through the Example of Play at the back of the PHB and I have a couple of questions concerning attribute checks...<br/> <br/> The Example of Play states: '...A 12 comes up on Bjorn's player's die, but that is enough to beat his prime challenge base of 12, meaning that the seasone...

Great, thanks
So, just to make certain, a Wereboar (first page I came to!), who has 5d8 HD, would get a +5 to any checks (and no other mods)?

Really Simple Question for a CK

<t>Hi All<br/> <br/> This should be very simple for most....I'm sure I've missed it in the rules or haven't read it yet...<br/> <br/> It concerns carrying out checks for monsters/npc's. If, for example, a fighter (character) attempts to 'move silently' past a sleeping guard, he does not add his leve...

Aha, got it
Pg 5 of the M&T confirms:

'..For example a Dryad's spell resistance is 10 and it is listed on the Special heading as 'SR 10'...'

That's what I was after - thank you bighara

<t>Thanks for all that.<br/> <br/> Sorry people, but I'm still struggling <br/> My understanding is: <br/> <br/> Spell Resistance is completely separate from Saving Throws and is a check done by the caster of a spell when the target has some form of in-built spell resistance. The caster needs to rol...

<t>Thanks again - I'm reading the PDF version of the PHB now, so questions may follow, although on first impressions, it seems really well written (in that, a novice like myself can get to grips with most elements...so far!)<br/> <br/> However, if any of you can remember your first attempts as Castl...

New to C&C Questions

<t>Hi All<br/> <br/> I'm looking for a bit of guidance please...I am interested in buying C&C, but am unsure which books/pdf's to invest in. I would like C&C's equivalent of a players, monsters and DM's guide. Do I need the Players Handbook and the Monsters & Treasures books and that's i...
