Re: Trying to understand Demi-humans getting two primes from a designers perspective
I always thought the human's 3rd prime was compensation for the demi-humans stat boosts and innate abilities

Re: 2 people separated by the same language
Several years ago, Iron Crown Enterprises released a rules checklist for Role Master, because the wide variety of options available could result in this same situation, and that's within the same edition of the same rule set. My teenage son wrote and ran a scenario for us using 5e (my only foray int...

Re: Rethinking C&C
I have used this system in the past, we called the spell points mana. It was fun for the magic users because they became juggernauts of destruction, but everyone else wound up being sidelined. I understand there is a perception that mages are weak early until suddenly they become over powered. I've ...

Re: D&D: Honor Among Thieves movie
I thought it was a fun movie. Converting a portal gun into a rod/staff/wand would probably cover most of the difficulties. If my group were playing this it would take close to a year to finish

Shadowrun 6th edition. I haven't played SR since 1st edition. I never figured out how that game worked, so I fell back on plying a tough guy that beat things up. I have recently decided that SR would not beat me, I will understand it, if it takes all year. Will I ever play or run it? Eh, who knows

Re: Running Classic & OSR campaigns
Balance was never a consideration back in the day, converting to C&C doesn't really change that. On the whole I run those old modules as written and just substitute in the C&C version of whatever monster is required. I am a very seat-of-the-pants DM though, your mileage may vary.

I'm re-reading the Hornblower series and mining it for adventure ideas for a sci-fi military campaign I'm planning. Plus, it's a very fun series to read.

Re: Class Ability Check Question
Why does the character without the class ability have a lower difficulty? My interpretation is if they don't have the class ability, in this case, move silently, they can't make the attempt at all. Why is the second example a base of 12?

I'm currently working on Nowada from Bombshell minis, She's been on the bench for several years now, and I've decided to finish her, no matter what. Like Go0gleplex, I am moving as well (starting after work today!) so it may be a while yet before she's done. Divorce sucks, do not recommend. https://...

Re: Random Stuff You Cribbed from Other Worlds for Yours
I added the Norse god Sif to my Darksun campaign via a spelljammer helm back in the day, and there were several places from Middle Earth scattered about in all of my worlds over the years. I don't have the energy (or temperament) to build worlds from scratch anymore, so I mainly operate in establish...

Re: What do you hate about D&D 5e?
I was playing some C&C this weekend (my son ran a game for Father's Day), and a couple of the players were 5e players normally. I lost count of the number of times they lamented the lack of one rule or another because of the tactical advantage it gave them. "If this were 5e I would do "...

Re: Calculating Challenge Class needlessly complex
When I ask my players for a stat check, I ask them to tell me how much the passed/failed by. They know the 12/18 thing. I never tell them the difficulty because there is no way for them to affect it. I ask for a roll, they tell me passed by 3, or failed by 1, and I apply that in my head and tell the...

Re: Unusual Magic Item Creation
Back in 2nd Ed days, I had a dwarf who hated trolls (no offense, lords). Our party ran into a nest of them, probably at least a dozen, and we managed to kill them all. While looting the lair, the dwarf was on lookout when a troll elite showed up. I managed to shave off most of his hit points before ...

It's really starting to sound like fighters aren't under powered, mages are overpowered. I enforce spell component rules to caster classes, which at least makes them think about stuff before hand. Casting time can also be a pain.

I would like to see more C&C on store shelves. Some people still buy stuff in brick and mortars. My local is store is quite large and very pretty, but if it's not 5e or Warhammer, there are only 6 little cubbies for everything else. Maybe they need to work a better distribution deal with who eve...

Re: another knight question
I get the feeling from recent readings on the knight class that they are meant to have numerous retainers and followers. Seems like all of their abilities are aimed at collecting and buffing large groups. If looked at in that light, the order seems OK to me.

Re: SIEGE is still confusing.
I ask the players for an attribute check and have them tell me how much they passed or failed it by. The players know what their Primes are, and should know they need a 12 or 18. So the rogue says I passed by 8 and the wizard missed by 2. Now you are looking at real numbers and not equations (Got to...

Re: Did you get the NEW CKG? Thoughts if you did
I have it. I'm not currently running C&C so I've only glanced at it. It is easier to read as the pages have a lighter background and the text stands out more, and each chapter has a color tab that shows on the edge, so easier to navigate. Past that I can't add much, sorry.

Re: Someone has "Adtherpe's Natural Materials"?
Rules for finding and gathering natural components (plants mostly as far as I can tell). Some specific plants and their uses. Tools for the budding alchemist. Tools and uses for animal parts. Crafting recipes and rules for making your own. 15 pages of stuff, not counting title pages and things.
