I'm anxiously awaiting my print copies of the new Call of Cthulhu at the moment
To make the wait feel shorter I found an old game on STEAM called CoC: Dark Corners of the Earth, that I've never played before.
A good and quite spooky game! Not suprisingly the graphics look quite outdated.
I've had an experience with DCC that's quite similar to what Buttmonkey describes, though I would also like to add that even though all the crit-tables and spell-tables in DCC might be a lot, fun they also tend to slow down the game. I'm really looking forward to seing what kind of beast DCC Lankhma...
My favorite d20 games are C&C and D&D 5th. I like them because they somehow "make sense" to me - I find rules easy to remember and use on the fly. I hope SotDL is like this? I also like dark and gritty settings and Schwalbs previous work. I'll give this game a shot, and cross my fingers, that there'...
I had the opportunity to play with the writer at gary con last year. It's a great game and I got in on the kickstarter for it. The mechanics are very simple and its easy enough to run with little preparation. It can be as dark of a world as you make it and there are mechanics for it to be run in fa...
Does anybody on this forum have any first-hand experience with this game. It gets great reviews from most people, but I know that some people just read the books and believes that a game that reads well also plays well - which, unfortunaltely, is not always the case (I'm looking at YOU Dungeon Crawl...
In 2003 I was growing tired with D&D 3.5. I searched the internet for alternatives, found TLG and signed up for playtesting C&C. I loved it (I still do BTW) and bought the White box, when it was released. I played countless sessions until 2006, when my son (and my daughter 2 years later) was born. T...
I remember The town of New Brayer (Briar?) served my old group as a base of operations for many adventures. Many of the NPCs from that adventure had major roles in some my own spin-off adventures.
There's an optional level-up system in the DMG that I use: First session takes you to level 2 and second session takes you to level 3. From this point it takes two sessions to go up one level. That's 36 sessions to level 20 if my math-fu is correct (which is very unlikely). It works fine in my grou...

I can see that. Some people like having a lot more specific rules to fall back on. Like 3.x games. That just was never the intention of the creator of D&D. Funny. IIRC 1e had a rule (and a table) for damn near everything. The only difference being, that 1e rules were alot harder to remember, due to...
I can see why people like 5E, and I don't dislike it. I just have more fun playing C&C on Monday and Tuesday than I do playing 5E on Thursday. I'm really not sure why either. We are just playing with the core book, but while its cool to decide upon skills, etc... my 5E character still does far less...

I've been playing D&D 5e for 7 months now. We've played 8-10 sessions and the characters are at level 5 or 6. I still like the game a lot. It always reminded me of C&C, but I like the fact that the rules are clearer and there are more options for players to customize their characters rules-wise, whi...
Just got the D&D 5th screen. Reading...reading....DONE. Next up: Dark Sun campaign setting for 2nd Edition, that I borrowed from a friend. I love Dark Sun. Which setting book is it, the original one or the revised one? R- I'm not really sure? It's a box. There's a TSR logo on the front. So far I li...
Also, for a right hander, you NEVER put the arrow on the left hand side of the bow. (at least IRL usage) Don't know where they came up with that myth. It's pretty common, especially when using sights. http://goo.gl/qfv4lS http://goo.gl/bnCXM5 True! This is pretty much THE WAY it's done in modern ar...
I DMed my first D&D 5th game last night. I ran the first chapter of the Hoard of the Dragon Queen adventure. The game went really well. Just like C&C this game seems easy to DM. The skillsystem was intuitive and very easy to use. We used minis and combat seemed fast and pretty deadly (players were L...
